Does that really matter? It looks very much alike to a real gun, and it should be treated as a real gun until confirmed it's a replica/airsoft. Just because it's unlikely that he could have aquired that gun in particular, it still looks very close to a deadly assault rifle.
At no point did I suggest that it was obviously not a real gun or that it should be taken lightly, I'm simply highlighting the absurdity of smuggling a pretty fucking conspicious gun into a country.
inb4 Leicester being islamic captial of England having something to do with it
Most airsoft guns don't have working/moving bolts, and the first picture you linked has the bolt pulled back. [editline]8th June 2013[/editline] Secondly, I thought most firearms in the UK were banned, so who's really going to get their hands on a G36 (pictured assault rifle) with a transparent magazine? Guys chill, I'm just trying to point out that his comparison images aren't great.
The police use them here - making them far more abundant than most assault rifles (bar of course the L85) in this country. But why the fuck worry about that anyway - a man waved something that looked like a real gun about in front of a bunch of kids - you shouldn't need to put some careful thought into the arms trade of this country before you realise that something's wrong.
not that i expect any random parent to know this of course but i still find the idea of some dumb wannabe terrorist in leicester having a g36 hilarious
Sorry if I came across like that, just wanted to point out that he chose some poor comparison images.
They would look pretty fucking similar from a distance
machine gun lol it's obviously a glock
I'm still amazed I've never heard of someone committing a crime with a real gun with an orange-painted tip.
Sure is easy to spot the difference between the real gun and the airsoft [t]http://www.zombiecrisis.org/siteimages/weapons/m4large.jpg[/t] [t]http://www.zephyrpaintball.com/media/img/zephyrsports/W742-H362-Bffffff/airsoft/gg/g_g_gr_16_a3_m16_carbine_airsoft_electric_gun_aeg.jpg[/t]
Seems pretty fuckin' straightforward to me, all you gotta do is look at the URL. That's why they need to be teaching kids critical thinking in primary school.

No fair!
I actually have a similar airsoft model, and mine also came with a clear magazine.
I can imagine someone on FP challenging a gunman one day and saying his gun is fake, only to be blasted soon after.
Of course this thread involves a huge debate about terminology.
The term “machinegun” means any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger. The term shall also include the frame or receiver of any such weapon, any part designed and intended solely and exclusively, or combination of parts designed and intended, for use in converting a weapon into a machinegun, and any combination of parts from which a machinegun can be assembled if such parts are in the possession or under the control of a person. http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/5845#b

"Assault rifles are short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachinegun and rifle cartridges." "Assault rifles have mild recoil characteristics and, because of this, are capable of delivering effective full-automatic fire at ranges up to 300 meters." http://gunfax.com/aw.htm
So assault rifles are a type of machine gun.
