Debris, falling over, getting shot by pistols, psychological comfort, mount for various goggles. I'd say they're pretty useful.

Keeping people from getting bonked by a guy with a stick/bat/iron bar. It's usually the whiplash that kills people, not the actual bullet piecing their head.
i dont see why they dont but some bulletproof glass or metal inside the layers between the helmet

Not only weight, but you need about 5 centimeters of it to even start being about to resistant small arms fire. Kevlar is way better for a helmet matieral.
