I've been working hard from middle school to ensure that I'm healthy when I'm older. Treat your body right with diet and exercise, and don't stop doing that. I know some people just get dealt a bad hand, but you can sway the odds in your favor.
The site just went down for me, I hope it's just a problem on my end I was really interested in what he had to say, anyone else having problems with the site?
This is some really interesting stuff. I respect him.
I can't help but notice how well his surname fits with his decision to suicide, though...
Here we all are sitting and reading about this mans life.
And this is what he intended - So we just made this mans life complete.
He'll properly get much more known around other sites.
I must admit, I'm a bit pushed by all this :v:
Could never do that, it seems to be in the assumption that there is something better after death, which I just don't believe there is.
"People remember me because I am different. My tombstone will not read "Here lies another Joe." I don't follow the crowd. I am not a sheep being led to the slaughter. Trends mean nothing to me - unless I set them."
The more I read about this man the more sad I get, the further I get it seems less like someone making a rational decision about the fears of old age and death, and more of a desperate and scared man's last bid to make himself feel like something more than just another person who came in and out of existence.
It's really sad.
60 seems a little young to take my leave in the world, personally. Seems like it'd be pretty crazy to want to die at that age.
"I am an original thinker. That is why I have accomplished things that others have not. That mindset is what allowed me to invent a few things and to write my books."
"I consider myself to be evolved beyond such a simplistic existence."
Okay, now we're beyond some death-bed rationalizations and into blatant egotism and bigotry.
euthanasia and suicide for entirely emotional purpose is never okay
if the only reason you're committing suicide is because your emotion wills you to (IE, you are not in a vegetative state), you should never, ever commit suicide
this should not have happened
Yes and I'm going to chance that this guys suicide was the result as you put it of an emotional state. This guy sounds like he was chronically depressed. You'll typically find that people who have ultimately decided suicide is the final answer will become very happy as if they had a moment of clarity (kinda like this guy).

So essentially he was a bit nuts and believed he was transcending this existence. That explains a lot.

I can see how you got that implication if you tilt your head sideways out of your ass.
Damn, that letter. He even paid for his own cremation in advance.
What a dick move from Yahoo, a guy writes his life story before committing suicide for everyone to read, and they take it away from him. At least there's a mirror.

He came from a time where fedoras were socially acceptable
How dare you defy the wishes of the dead, Yahoo? Oh well. You'll get yours soon enough for this unforgivable sin.
It's sad that he chose to end his life. He could have stopped a lot of things that come with old age by living with a good diet and staying in shape.
Website is down, I wanna see what he wrote? -
this is certainly an interesting person
My Grandmother wanted to do the same thing but she tried doing it by damn near drinking herself to death.

Why do you draw the line at a vegetative state? They're still alive, and if in their own mind they want to die, it's still simply because of an emotional state. Same with chronic physical pain. If you want to die to get out of that, emotional state. All wills and desires are an emotional state.
I just find it so odd how when he was writing this he peppered jokes around each of the pages. Like under "Pictures" he is talking about an embarrassing photo of his step daughters that he has
"Marissa was six, Jaime eight. They will kill me (Oh, wait...) if they see this picture"
That must be absolutely sickening to read if you are one of his loved ones.
He has associative synesthesia.
This man is an artist. I mean really, he managed to do what very few of us will really ever get to do, and that's leave everything he wanted to behind for everyone to understand. He said everything he wanted to say and do what he planned to do.
I don't really know what to think of his suicide...it's as if he manage to make the circumstances around it as victim-less as possible. What tragedy there is remains solely with his family and friends, but even then, he attempted to leave them with as much closure as possible.

As I say it, even with a shit hand you can bluff your way to victory, you don't always need to fold.
He kinda missed the major point in the TNG episode that he referenced. Which was that life was valuable and worth living even in old age

Not very intact, but it's something.

That sounds like something Phol Fish would say in 30-40 years.
Here's a collections of his fedoras

He pulls a fedora off well.

that's because he isn't also wearing a my little pony shirt
This may be slightly deviant from the normal response to something like this, but I find this man's raw objectivity and clear mindedness to be something beautiful. It takes a big man to be so metaphysical about his own life like this. To analyze a current situation and come to a final consensus that suicide is the best option is truly leaves my mouth agape in awe. I don't feel bad for this guy. I shouldn't feel bad for this guy. After reading his entire story, I don't believe our sorrow is something he would have wanted. He was completely at peace with this decision.
Sure, he sounds egotistical and bigoted at some points, but that lies more with his analytical tendencies. Psychologically speaking, someone at this particular level will most likely believe that they truly are better than others for coming to this endgame. This website ought to be preserved for years.
