Not sure how legit it is, I don't recall the episode at all.
(Not taking a stand on anything. Just saw arguing, got curious, Googled it and found this. Figured I'd share)
Ah, now I remember. Thanks! (Not entirely sure why people rated my first post dumb when I admitted I could have been wrong, but oh, well...)
So, apparently the daughter just went missing? Are there any updates on that front, yet? The police should definitely question the guys that attacked her if they know who they are.
bullets drop moderately fast when shot forward, like what you normally do when hunting in the woods.
Despite hearing shots pretty clearly til 10 at night daily, it's not a threat. Shooting up at an angle your average pistols and rifles won't be getting too far due to how [relatively] fast the shots drop, so it should be easy to understand any old hunter in the woods isn't a threat to much more than their game.
A .22 LR round would be traveling pretty much straight down before it even got halfway to your house. Even with a .50 BMG you would have to be standing on a platform 500 ft up in the air to reach your front lawn, at which point it would be traveling at a 45 degree angle downward. Correct for atmosphere and you would have to add another 100 ft to that platform.
In terms of time, there is no difference in how fast they drop. What matters is the speed in which they're moving forward, which moves them further in the same amount of time. Hence, they don't drop fast or slow - they just drop, regardless of what kind of bullet it is and in which angle you shoot it. Didn't you pay attention in physics 101?

Well, bullets do actually curve upwards when shot, so there's that period in which they aren't going downwards which can differ between rounds.
Jesus christ's falling bullets dont kill anyone cause they loose all there muzzle energy from air resistance and tumbling on the way down, now with larger caliber weapons with spin-stablization there's a higher chance it might not.

I bet you fantasize about such as an opportunity frequently don't you
Honest question here, would she have been charged if she shot the guy who punched her daughter?
Would it be self defense?
Makes logical sense that shooting the attacker is a good idea versus shooting randomly into the air.... could hit someone else......
Deserves to be charged for endangering others who weren't even involved.
Hey everyone, guess what? No one got hurt and the boys ran away. The result was the best possible result and it's nothing but speculation to assume any other response would have had a better result.
The punishment of this mother is going to do more harm than good for society at large.

There's a difference between a nearly 100% chance to kill someone and a VERY VERY small chance that a random person will be hurt.

I'll remember this logic next time I drive home safely drunk.

The claim of self defense is hers to prove. For instance, if I shoot and kill someone and say it was in self defense, the cops aren't going to just say "Well, alright then" and let me go.
So if she had shot this guy she'd need proof she was defending her daughter's life. If he was in the process of attacking the daughter AND IF she had at least one witness willing to testify to that, then I believe she would not have been charged.
Because this isn't the first time a WOMAN has done this(fire a warning shot), I believe some public education is needed. Clearly the public at large needs to be told in no uncertain terms that there is no legal defense called 'warning shots'. Either shoot the person posing a threat to life or don't shoot at all.
I hope the second amendment will be listened to, this time.

There's also a good chance that they'll just attack you instead because you shown that you don't have the courage to actually shoot a person.
You ARE a shitposter.
I just came back from Manchester, and I am 100% sure it's a LOT more safer than the states. We don't need guns here, cuz most European citizens are better raised then over there.
A neat trick to use when you get attacked at night by a random person, take your cellphone and call the police and start DESCRIBING the person (what he is wearing, his facial structure) so far I did it twice when I was in shady neighborhoods in Brussels and both times they ran faster than their stupid feet could carry them. And you don't even need to get a person straight away answering your call.
''Hello Police, I am at x street and I am being assaulted by a middleaged person with x, y and z etc..'' loud and clear so they can hear it.
No guns, no violence, no people dead, you stay safe.
Yeah, I called the cops once. They literally showed up to me and a friend beside our dying friend, only to watch him die several minutes later from a gunshot wound...still haven't caught the guys that did it..even with all of our descriptions and info.
So like I said, when this sort of situation arises again someday, I will certainly not be taking your sand-nosed advice.
Have fun being a victim the next time "TeH pOlIcE" don't show up on time. Been there done that, it's not too fun. I suppose some people just need to learn things the hard way.

Highly doubtful, no one is going to knowingly run up to someone with a gun to fight them unless they need to.

There are obvious and easy solutions for not driving home drunk. There is no easy solution for this situation.

Why do you automatically assume that no responsible gun owner is going have the courage to defend their life? Americans show us everyday how a firearm can be used to thwart an attacker. Just read an article by American Rifleman called, "The Armed Citizen".

You were basing if something was okay to do purely on the results of that individual instance.
Real dumb.

after a boy punched her daughter in the face during a dispute near their home.
what a fucking coward
There is a difference between being a coward and hitting a girl. Still fucked up though.
Good news!
