As someone who has family over there, this is a fair bit sad. But until the PNG government actually does something about it, I'd recommend that anyone should not go into the western highlands (or anywhere west of Port Moresby.)
Journeys like these offer the most thrilling experience. My own mother has probably seen half the world by now, and that's not even exaggerating, and a third of her destinations have been these "extreme" tourism hotspots. A couple years ago, for example, she went off to New Zealand, where she ended up sailing up and down the rivers together with my stepdad. In one port, the locals made it clear as crystal that they're not exactly safe. Hell, the year before a German couple had come and the husband was brutally murdered, while the wife somehow went through rape, beatings and eventually escaped... I admit, I disturbs me to contemplate what MIGHT'VE been, but fortunately it isn't. Fortunately they all returned safely. But shit, thinking about it, my mom's sat around a fire with cannibal tribes and scoured deep jungles and what ever, and knows every nook and cranny of every major European city. I envy her, truly. I hope fortune sets me on the trail of discovery just like it did her...
wtf lol NZ is the least extreme tourist country in the world... if the locals were making it clear they weren't safe they were probably referring to the rivers.
Another shit country, hope our goverment can send some Freedom bombs over there sometime.
You do understad that that could result in the entire world turning against that "government"?
To shoot every local in sight, cant believe we let such cretins still breed and live among the civilized world.
It must be easy for you to call for the death of others. You, sir, are the poster child for everything that is wrong with the world, wrong with America, wrong with the West. People like you are the worst in humanity, and drag our entire species down into the dirt. Even those fucking rapists are better, more upstanding examples of the human race than you are right now. After all, they only committed a sexual assault, while you want genocide. Congratulations. I bet you'll wear it like a fucking badge of honor.
You do understad that that could result in the entire world turning against that "government"?
that would be great [editline]22nd April 2013[/editline] if it was the US government
You think posting words on an internet forum is worse than raping people? good grief
There's a reason for that. The rapists are in Papua, New Guinea. In 2010, only 1.3% of the population of that country had an internet connection. Education in that country is ailing - In fact only about 65% of the population - Male and female - can read or write. It is classified as a 'developing' country. And like any other developing country, there are many things that are great about it, even if it does have problems. Sure, rape is just awful, but this puke, tr00per7, grew up in the West. He has had access to a 'first-world' education, access to the internet, and has a responsibility, as a person with such comparative luxury, fortune and opportunity, to actually learn something. Instead, he's calling for genocide - The annihilation of an entire civilian population. So yes, he's a much worse person than they are. I stand by what I said.
I'm getting Farcry 3 flashbacks reading this for some reason.

So before you try to throw people from the US under the bus like most people on the internet seems to like to do (the US is evil, its people are terrible, yadayadayada) do some research. With that said, for the most part I agree with your sentiments towards these sorts of people. The people who don't understand and don't want to understand the factors that make these problems more prone to arise. Its always noticeable in threads regarding other/non-Western countries. Although I do hope he was joking.
