Can't wait for Black Friday to be over. Thanksgiving was my favorite holiday until I had to go to work at 3 in the afternoon to prepare to open at 6 in the evening on Thursday for Black Friday I get holiday pay for the few hours on Thursday but it's not worth it.
It's like some of you guys seriously think this is a holiday about barbarism. It's literally just a day that prices go super cheap so you can buy what you need for Christmas. People trampling over each other is just what happens when you sell things super cheap apparently. Human nature, I guess? Hardly evil, it's just silly, really. Anywho, 'Cyper Monday' has gotten more popular in recent years so there's that.
Considering that last year people tried to kill each other over HDTVs which were the first thing in the store, I think it shouldn't be a thing, if people can't practice restraint like normal human beings every other day then you can't have it.

When you get excessive amounts of people in a small space they tend to get violent naturally. This is well documented and is part of human nature.
Lets end Black Friday and make Cyber Monday even more popular then Black Friday.
if people can't practice restraint like normal human beings every other day then you can't have it.
This isn't kindergarten, this is the REAL WORLD. People who do stuff wrong should get punishment, not that if two people in a gathering of a hundred thousand going overboard then no one can do whatever it was they were doing.
They need to keep this shit back in America.
If you insist on quarantining it here, can we at least have Black Friday on fucking Friday and not Must-Remember-My-Boss-Gave-Me-This-Paid-Holiday-To-Spend-Time-With-My-Loved-Ones-Not-To-Throat-Punch-A-Soccermom-For-The-Last-BB-8-Sphereo Thursday? Black Friday is a terrible holiday and we should stop promoting it.
I like to carry a bucket of popcorn and a plastic chair and sit in the back of my dad's pickup in the front of my hometown's Walmart parking lot when Black Friday rolls around. I'm not a big fan of football, but god damn are those people fun to watch.
Dude I'll meet you there I'll bring a 6 pack of whatever that isn't beer bring your GF i'll bring Jeri we can have a black Friday party
the fuck [editline]10th November 2015[/editline] i get that black friday causes issues but the wording is still weird
Black friday has and always will be an American thing. I'm not trying to be anti-american, but it's literally celebrating another countries tradition (?) for no real reason. It's like if Americans started celebrating Guy Fawkes. There's nothing wrong with having a day of sales, but to call it the well known Black Friday and therefore provide the social connotations of insanity that come with it, just doesn't make sense.
After last year, I'm not surprised. Absolute madness, I was ashamed of my countrymen after that display
What is black friday supposed to be about? Celebrating capitalism?
Pretty much, yeah. It's basically people being materialistic shitheads the day after thanksgiving. It's also one of the single biggest moneymaking days in retail, so stores are usually on board with sales and shit. Which only further it. I wish it would die off. [editline]12th November 2015[/editline]
Isn't Black Friday right after Thanksgiving? After people are thankful for what they have, they all make a run for the mall to grab what they don't have?
I think these days Thanksgiving has lost its meaning as well, being mostly 'a day off work and school where we pig the fuck out for no real reason'.
Well, I suppose cheap stuff is nice. After all, what would a Christmas be without Grandma Mildred's yearly copies of Battleship? Five copies, to be exact, each for a different console. Straight from the bargain bin.
It's never cheap stuff, though. TVs, game consoles, hell even car dealers get in on black friday bullshit. I guarantee we'll be seeing black friday ads on TV for Lexus and BMW again this year.

But, does Black Friday matter?
It's a well known day in which shit goes down. I remember last years Black Friday. I work at a Home Bargains. We can't even DO a black friday because everything is so fucking cheap. Yet for whatever reason our store was rammed more than Christmas time because people assumed we were doing Black Friday. I even had comments saying "Wow they have put some big discounts in here" no, that's just the regular price, you just never shop here. Home Bargains and B&M (but mostly HB I've found) are like the Steam Store of the real world. Everythings cheap, so you buy it all. Like for example: Pringles in the asda next door are usually £2-£3. We sold ours for £1.15. Because literally no-one bought any, they had to reduce it to £1 which was hilarious. We only make 10% at most profit on everything we sell. So what you buy is 90% the manufacturers money and 10% HB. This makes me think Asda/Tesco make somewhere between +50% profit on everything at least becauase of how ridiculous the prices are. Fucking perfume is like £20 in Asda and £3 in my shop for the same fucking thing!
If you're against Black Friday consider just ordering some cool shit online.
But, does Black Friday matter? evidently this thread suggests its less of a thing now than it was
No it doesn't, they just don't want hospitalized people on their hands cause its expensive to cover your ass
Black Friday isn't even bad. They just play up the worst-case scenarios all over the country. I've been in the middle of Manhattan on Black Friday and nothing happened, and yes, there was a ton of people but it was perfectly calm. Just another thing the media blows out of proportion for attention.
