This Is Your Game Company On Meth: BioWare thinks the majority of players want day 1 DLC

how about all DLC and extra maps free
just like you know
any fucking game with a good game editor.
People act as if DLC like this is being ripped out of the game and sold afterwards on purpose. Do you realize the time between the game going gold and it actually coming out in most cases? This DLC is what the developers do in that between time. It's impossible to be shipped with the game and wasn't built to be.
They should be spending that time playtesting the living hell out of it. Bugs end up slipping onto the disc all the time, if they have enough time to make some bullshit DLC they have enough time to playtest like crazy and have a patch ready to go before the game even launches.
Why don't developers stop this dlc bullshit and go back to the expansion packs method.
mod support for me3 would be cool though. extends playtime far far further than day 1 dlc

IIRC, none of the Mass Effect games had mod support officially. You could edit the files, but it's not capable of total conversions and the like.
I hate the idea of DLC in general, even the stuff that comes out way after the game comes out
how about you put that work into a sequel or a spinoff or something

God no, this would be L4D2 all over again.

Some have but in a more sinister way.
DICE stopped calling their DLC what it is, they are now "expansions".
When before these things would normally be included in a free content patch for the game.
I will gladly pay for DLC, as long as it isnt four new maps for 19.99 euros, or a new character that doesnt add anything new. Is it however a big bunch of content that really add something to the game (Like Dawnguard), I will gladly buy it, as it is loads of content, developed after the game has been released/been finished for release. Day1 DLC on the disk is literally pulling something out of the game so you can sell it.

If you are referring to the Battlefield DLC's, you do realize that add pretty much the same amount of content that the BF1942 expansions added, right?
and now companies will start to release day one dlc because Mass Effect 3 showed everyone how much of an untapped cash cow it is. sure a lot of fpers talk about how much they hate it, but im sure if the sequel to their favorite game had day one dlc they would throw all of their money at it.
Thats a good point, but honestly BioWare, are those the kind of people you want to satisfy?
But don't mass effect games take like forever to finish unless you rush through it?
I mean quickly for Mass Effect isn't like 4 hours. It still takes a bit from what I remember from ME2.
And that day 1 DLC should be at least free because they made it during development. Its still kinda stealy to me...

ME3 seriously lacked in the content department, it only took me 8 hours to finish all the sidequests, gather all the collectibles and reach the green ending.

Yeah, I think they overcompensated for how long ME2 was to get all the shit (12 loyalty quests, dayum).
What pisses me off those most is how, imo, games are NOT worth $60 to begin with, but $20 is far too much for DLC. Game companies are so rich because they're able to pull off this shit, making huge, unnecessary profit. They see business as a profit machine, not a service to its clients.
Oh how the mighty have fallen. :smith:

$15 for 4 maps, 10 weapons, and some other minor improvements.
If it was a BF1942 expansion you'd get almost triple that and they also wouldn't pump out 4 "expansions" in a years time.
My friend said it shouldn't be called DLC if it's already on the disc. So I think it should be called Buyloadable Content or BLC.

DLC or "Disk Loaded Content" :v:
Or Disk Locked Content.

Read it as Buoyable content at first, but I don't think they even need that to keep their boats afloat.
They shouldn't appeal to the fucking no-lifers that beat games in a week. The people that are all video games 24/7 and are obese and socially awkward because of it. Those kind of people take the piss out of games because they just play them to play, not to experience it.

What.
Semi related.
Playing NFS The Run, apparently EA doesn't know where NY is.

That was probably the most ignorant statement I have read when it comes to "No life gamers." I know many hardcore gamers who dedicate a great deal of their time in gaming, including my self. Statistically hardcore gamers who game "24/7" are fit,and do indeed have a social life outside keyboard and controller. Nothing you said in that statement was in any way true. Those type of people take the piss out of games because they play just to play? What?
There are multiple new yorks probably. Like san francisco isn't a state, its a city (in california).
No, the Race Starts in San Francisco, CA and ends in New York, New York.

Ah.
How could EA fuck that up...
Although everywhere else I see the map end in the correct place...

Actually no DICE's expansion policy has remained mostly unchanged since 1942 came out with two expansions itself that had less content than, say, Back to Karkand or Armored Kill.

Oh saw this reply later. What?
Secret Weapons came with a lot of shit but Road to Roam came with a couple of new guns, vehicles, and maps for $20. That's less content for price than any of the BF3 expansions. Special Forces for BF2 had a lot of content but that was a larger pack for a bigger price; $30.
Ah, but the thing with Day 1 DLC is that it serves no purpose other than a quick amount of cash in the publisher pocket, since buying it only unlocks content that's already in the game in the first place.
FTFY
Publishers usually take a lion's share of the profits, if not all.
EA happened.
EA was around from the first mass effect onward.
