Girl Scout Launches Cookie Boycott Campaign After Organization's Inclusion Of Transgender Child

Huh, just yesterday my mother bought me and my sister girl scout cookies - Tagalongs, if I remember correctly (goddamn are they so good). Then again, we're not in California, but it's weird for some reason to see this now. :v:
someone tell her that they will donate 10$ for every cookie she doesn't buy to them
...what? How do you propose this would work?
The local boy scouts are led by an openly/obviously gay adult and no one seem to give a shit about it, not even the local priest.
Ignorant hateful cunt.
Oh you do not mess with cookies, boycott making knots or something like that
Also you really can't identify yourself as a transgender at age 7, what the fuck, that's sick

What about people who are actually born as both sexes at the same time ? it exists afaik.

What do you mean by this? That transgendered people can't identify themselves at the age of seven?
why not?
what's sick about feeling female instead of male?
I mean, genetically XXY people, sure, but not most "imma girl trapped in a man's body" ts people
What do you mean by this? That transgendered people can't identify themselves at the age of seven?
Well he's kinda right, at 7 you are far from psychologically and sexually defined as an individual. As long as you haven't hit puberty it's really hard to tell your sexual orientation, your character and everything related.
Claiming you're a transgender at 7 is really damn soon, so that kid is either very mature or doesn't really know.

Exactly this
i suck at wording stuff
I mean, genetically XXY people, sure, but not most "imma girl trapped in a man's body" ts people
Why not?
Also, those 'genetically XXY people' are called intersexed, and it's different from being trans*.

Like many gay/lesbian/pansexual/etc. people, a lot of people really can tell you this when they're at that age. Not all of them, for sure; maybe not even most. But some can. It's been likewise established that a very significant number of transgendered people knew even earlier then the age of seven. Many, if not most, people have some kind of sexual feelings before puberty (but sexual feelings aren't related to your gender, so that's beside the point). Kids are extremely adept at picking up on genders and the way in which they're codified and valued within societies, and can tell you if they conform to that or not.
I agree that seven is too young to be transitioning genders, but it's not too young for some of them to identify as another gender.
I have a strange feeling the article is referring to someone who's actually a hermaphodite, but they're using the wrong terminology. And that's simply for the big reason FPers have already pointed out - That at age 7, a person's gender identity isn't quite determined yet. If I'm right, that makes these boycotters seem even more evil, because they don't have the excuse of not being able to understand mental as opposed to physical distinctions.

Speaking of using incorrect terminology, the word 'hermaphrodite' is outdated and usually seen as offensive.

I know. But I myself will admit I'm not sure what the politically correct term is.
[editline]12th January 2012[/editline]
And "person with physical characteristics of both the male and female sex" is a little long-winded.
What's this bitch's youtube account? Is that it? she locked comments then.
edit: I'm going to make a response video where I'm eating girl-scout cookies RIGHT IN HER FACE

A Google search could tell you pretty quickly. It's 'intersex'.
It's not just about 'political correctness'. A hermaphrodite is a scientific term for an organism that has both male and female reproductive organs, and (usually) both of which are functioning, so they can either reproduce solely, or act as the 'male' or 'female' in sexual reproduction. This doesn't apply to humans, so from a purely scientific standpoint, it's an incorrect term.
Also, it's historically been used in a very bigoted way, so if you want to avoid offense and harm, don't use it. If that's 'political correctness', then...
I don't arbitrarily use the term 'hermaphrodite' all the time, Devotchkade, if that's what you're implying.
In this context, I simply did because I didn't know of the word 'intersex' and 'hermaphrodite' was the best word in my vocabulary I could use without needing to get verbose.

I wasn't implying anything. I was explaining the difference to you, and to anyone else who might read this thread and not know why it's seen as inappropriate.
Speaking of using incorrect terminology, the word 'hermaphrodite' is outdated and usually seen as offensive.
Why would it be offensive though ? Isn't it the name of the god of sexual ambiguity, who got the name from Hermes and Aphrodite ?
People really try to find offensive stuff everywhere, these days, do they.
says who
Er... Science. As everyone's been saying, a statistically minuscule number of people, if indeed there are any at all, have developed a complete gender identity by age 7.
"I have been taught by Girl Scouts advocate for my beliefs"
So, if I believe I'm a girl, that's not a belief?
I'm sorry. But when us non-Americans see this, and only this, from America. What do you want us to think about you?
Why would it be offensive though ? Isn't it the name of the god of sexual ambiguity, who got the name from Hermes and Aphrodite ?
People have historically used it promote an image of them that is biologically impossible. It's very much linked with the vilification of intersex people, because it's related to spreading incorrect information about them.
An actual trans* person could explain this one to you better than me; I'm not, and therefore cannot claim to speak for someone who is.
People really try to find offensive stuff everywhere, these days, do they.
It's not a matter of people 'trying to find stuff' to be offended at arbitrarily.
Er... Science. As everyone's been saying, a statistically minuscule number of people, if indeed there are any at all, have developed a complete gender identity by age 7.
Bullshit.
Go ask any 7 year old if they are a boy or a girl.
They'll tell you with 100% certainty.

Sorry, this just isn't true. It's debatable what a 'complete gender identity' is, and most research indicates that trans* people usually know from a fairly young age.
