When a white guy shoots a black guy its always because he's a racist KKK member who kicks babies and puppies
Wait, you aren't part of a secret cabal looking to keep the black man down?
I guess we really can't all get along.
We get along fine so long as it's "we" we're talking about and not "us and them". Sadly, fairly large groups of assholes on all sides subscribe to the "us and them" viewpoint.
So many comparisons to the LA riots almost 22 years ago. We haven't changed much on either side of the fence.
How come there weren't any press inside in the courtroom? Is it because the defendant is a police officer?
Here's hoping he's found not guilty
its an indictment, he's not guilty or innocent, its just a determination if there is enough evidence to go to trial, and ya the jury stalling so long sort of indicates they aren't doing their job right
Seriously, why is there going to be a riot? It's going to hurt the black community more than someone getting shot. I mean, the LA riots just made poor black neighborhoods poorer plus the rioters loot from black businesses.
I'm deathly confused about courtroom terminology To simplify it, he's on trial to get a trail?
according to my brother who's watching Fox they did decide to go to trial however i don't see how that can be happening since the announcment is tonight...
Everything about this spectacle is cancer, I truly hope people don't riot.

Fuck you think rioters would at least be smart enough to not break their own shit but the mob is as the mob does.
-snip- double post
22 years going full circle. Moral of the story. No one learns.
I'm deathly confused about courtroom terminology To simplify it, he's on trial to get a trail?
grand jury decides if the case has enough evidence to warrant a trial, its the first line for the defense, they can get evidence thrown out as well as shape which strategy the prosecution uses later, the prosecution just has to provide enough evidence to convince the judge or jury that something may or may not have happened and we need to argue it
22 years going full circle. Moral of the story. No one learns.
If our police forces weren't forced to uphold laws that unjustly discriminate against the impoverished and the black, there wouldn't be riots. The protests are just the breaking point of decades of discrimination. It's pent-up frustration at being profiled - a death just set off a chain reaction. It doesn't really matter if Wilson is racist or not, or if the guy that got shot was guilty or not. What matters is that people recognize that what happened at Ferguson is indicative of underlying racial tensions and institutionalized discrimination. But most people are just going to think a bunch of black people got mad that a criminal got shot. Also, the rioters' actions don't speak for the entire community of Ferguson. That's like saying Hamas represents every Palestinian's wishes. They're the most reactionary, greedy, and opportunistic of an entire outraged community - don't assume everybody's acting that way.
Here's hoping he's found not guilty
Wait, did something change? Last time I checked everyone and their dog was against the cop, even Jon Stewart was all over this with hell of a zinger-statement on racism. Did something show up in the evidence to prove him innocent?
I'm here in the heart of this city, staying indoors. For those of you who will be looking at today's events and passing judgment: do not miss the point. This is about more than Michael Brown. It's a culmination of decades of racial disparity and subjugation in Saint Louis. There is very real pain here, and legitimate cause for the calls for change. Do not let the knuckleheads who have come here for no other reason than to take advantage of an opportunity to perpetrate violence and destruction distract you from this, and do not make the sad mistake of generalizing the legitimate protestors in the same vein as the instigators.

People keep latching on to the trial when it's totally unimportant news drama on top of justified racial unrest.

It can weigh hundreds or thousands of tons, it cannot be killed, it cannot be subdued, and it cannot be placated. Anything that gets near it will very likely be torn asunder.
Too late since all news networks ever are going to completely ignore that sentiment
Really a damn shame, too. It's the same thing as glorifying school shooters - it's a spectacle and a drama, complete with characters and protagonists and villains - and it brings in lots of money for the news networks. Talking about racial prejudice without taking sides and demonizing the opposition isn't exciting, and most news networks are about spectacle, not information and discussion.
My sister is really scared, and is staying at a friends house since she fears riots might break out in her apartment's neighborhood.
Too late since all news networks ever are going to completely ignore that sentiment
Then be clever enough to read past the money-making headlines.
No matter the outcome, some of the rioters are gonna flip shit, because that's what they wanna do. You got the people who legitimately care about the outcome, and those who just want to fuck shit up. While people will be mad no matter what, most of them will be more or less peaceful hopefully. I'm glad Florida was calm-ish after Zimmerman, hopefully Ferguson won't be bad either. It looks like it is not gonna look good though. If you are in or near Ferguson, stay safe.
I'm curious, not hoping, but curious to see what the crowd's reaction would be if he was indicted and was indeed on his way to trial.

I love how the article points out the race of the jury members. Adding fuel to the flames there guys.

Militia, national guard, SWAT, riot police, rioters, and random thugs.... This entire town is going to most likely burn regardless of how the vote goes. I wish all of you guys and gals in Ferguson and St Louis luck. I hope nothing major kicks off, because it'll be a fucking bloodbath.
This case was made a total shit show and overblown by the media and populace. May it rest in pepperoni as a fine example of what happens when reporters try to solve a case with no evidence nor information and instead use current situations and sensationalism as definitive answers to a problem. This could have been a simple case of whether or not a police officer made a mistake in shooting a child, but instead became a story of the reincarnation of Jesus being shot by the evil police forces that oppress everyone. The sole fact that the court hearing has to be kept hush hush and the final result has been prepared for so that innocent people can be protected is disgusting. Just because some black kid got shot by a white man doesn't mean the government and police force is attempting to systematically oppress anyone. No one in this investigation is a criminal until proven guilty, which hasn't happened. The only criminals here are those who use this unfinished investigation as validation for rioting and violence. Best of luck to anyone living there.
