I'm overwhelmed by the irony of the Social Justice front's choice to use a To Kill a Mockingbird quote in reponse to this court ruling.
I mean, it's only a book that revolves around the orderly and fair process of law.

From the LA riots, but still very relatable.
So a black guy got killed by a white police officer for no given reason and when he was put in front of a grand jury they decided not to send him to trial. This was a good example of the systematic racism in America. Now, there are violent, fire-filled protests in Ferguson over this. This defeats the whole example thing I mentioned.
This is basically what I got from Wikipedia and this thread. Yes?
Well shit, Tumblr made it to Facepunch. I mean come on man, why do you people have to constantly pull out the fucking race card every single time when race has nothing to do with it?

did we read the same book? i'm fairly sure the big thing that happened in that book was that the orderly and fair process of the law didn't apply to black people
stop w/ the weird and unrelated tumblr jokes how do they fit into this shit at all
But people DON'T care about that. I agree with you, 100%, there are genuine issues with systemic racism. But Ferguson is literally a step backwards, because people who protest together are lumped together, the protests in NYC are now less effective because of idiots in Ferguson.
The violence is literally ruining any message that the protesters might have had, and while the issue will still remain, the momentum they could have built is not only lost, but several steps backwards have been made.
You can't say "distrust of the police is a systemic problem with the black community" and at the same time have people screaming about POLICE BEIN RACIST, when they're literally enforcing the law due to dumbasses. The issue might be (read: Is) real, but people certainly are less inclined to listen or care when your screaming racism with one hand and burning down your city with the other.
i think people WANT to ignore the real underlying cause & message of these protests and just focus on the violence/looters

It's the same shit as Occupy. Genuine, important issues "ruined" due to mob mentality - except they're not ruined. If the LA Riots opened the door to race relation discussions, Ferguson should open the same doors to discussions about police mistreatment of minorities. There's always fuckwits "ruining" legitimate movements - so you ignore them and pay attention to the actual core message they're pushing. Yes, some people aren't capable of that, and they're as stupid as the rioters. Anyone with critical thinking skills can get down to the meat of the issue and ignore the mold on top.

KMOV is now reporting "At least 7" businesses on fire, many of which were very vocal in supporting their community. Guess it didn't help.

I dunno man, have you seen what's going on at Tumblr? It's a bunch of comically overdramatic white fangirls completely losing their shit. It's hilarious.

Yeah, you know what happened in that book that didn't happen here?
A jury used fabricated evidence to put someone away to appease racial pressures!

It isn't over yet, we all know this.
I can't sleep since I'm really afraid that my sister might get hurt in all this.
VICE just interviewed a mother and her son, both seemed very level-headed about the whole situation. But it just breaks my heart to see real people who are suffering because of this unnecessary destruction.

I saw it as well. Those are the people I feel bad for in all of this, not the idiots running around yelling "fuck the police." People who actually want to help the situation and work with the community around them.
