many businesses don't want to upgrade because it'll cost them $10 to do so and that's way too much for them to afford.
Apparently the non-profit I work for found some money to upgrade to Windows 7. Most of their software is web based anyway though, which is probably why. And to be honest, a few of the computers probably shouldn't be running 7. I think they have a Prescott P4 and 2 GB of RAM. Not too bad, but doing any sort of multitasking gives it a workout. An Nvidia 6150LE (dragging window? Let me show you every beautiful frame), and probably the slowest hard drives HP could buy (you've got 15 minutes to login, right?).
You've really got no excuses if you haven't upgraded to either 7 or 8 considering when 8 was released it costed $20 and that pricetag lasted for a good 3 months And if your computer has shit hardware it's time to upgrade, got no money? There's plenty of solutions available for people with limited budgets Come on guys upgrade
Many businesses use poorly-coded programs designed to run on winXP that haven't been updated for newer systems. And no, "run in windows xp mode" does not emulate it perfectly. Some still use serial ports, too. It doesn't look like microsoft is still selling windows 7, either. And no business in their right minds would move to win8.
How do they record this on a monthly basis?
cookies in browser. so it's just net share and doesn't reflect offline users, but it's still pretty accurate.

But I fairly sure they still are supporting volume licenses of Windows 7 since Windows 7 market-share is still growing.
People don't want to use Windows 8 (for good reasons) and Microsoft have already outphased Windows 7.
Yeah you know what they already outphased like 5 years ago? Windows XP! They outphased it with Windows 7!
They should honestly just move to Linux if they don't plan on occasionally moving to newer Windows versions. All these ATM's and devices where security is crucial is just asking for a identity thief nightmare.

Actually, a lot of those embedded machines really ought to run some sort of *NIX. I can't imagine making the switch being more expensive than licensing every single one with Windows.
It's amazing how many people still hang on to XP and even more amazing that people are still buying it! I know some companies can't afford newer OS but seriously XP why not Vista!
It's amazing how many people still hang on to XP and even more amazing that people are still buying it! I know some companies can't afford newer OS but seriously XP why not Vista!
If you consider Vista, you might as well go 7 or 8 to be honest. They all have similar hardware requirements. Plus the fact that Microsoft doesn't license Windows Vista anymore since 7 is basically Vista SP3. Vista+ was a significant enough change that it does genuinely break old software, especially old shoddy corporate software that hasn't been upgraded since George W. Bush's first term.
many businesses don't want to upgrade because it'll cost them $10 to do so and that's way too much for them to afford.
Even a small, non IT oriented company can easily rack up 10 000+ USD for OS/software upgrades. For most companies, spending that much just so everything is up to date without any massive productivity gains is a completely bonkers investment.

First tip, right click the start button for all the necessary old start menu functions second, here's the win8 store minesweeper, free as always http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/45ac18d7-e742-494f-a1b1-009aa412a179 [t]http://wscont2.apps.microsoft.com/winstore/1x/6fa29ab6-ea38-4e37-b25a-2f512262d616/Screenshot.247210.1000006.jpg[/t]
I'm picturing some Microsoft board member slamming his fists on his big fancy mahogany desk screaming "WHY WON'T YOU DIE" :v:
in the medical software office I work in, our main programmer uses XP just because of its compatibility with MySQL and stuff
Windows XP user reporting in
in the medical software office I work in, our main programmer uses XP just because of its compatibility with MySQL and stuff
What? How is 7/8 not compatible with MySQL?
What? How is 7/8 not compatible with MySQL?
It is compatible. But what ever version he's using probably relies on a bug to work properly, and doesn't want to fix the program.
I saw a cash register boot up at a local supermarket yesterday and it was showing the fucking Windows XP logo. Sounds super secure for something that is supposed to handle money. :v:
The majority of cash registers and ATMs use either windowsCE, embedded or XP. Also it's secure. None of those machines are actually connected to the internet. There's no real infection vector, and they probably are so locked down that can't really run anything either.
Vista represent, living on the edge

Having done IT work for over 10 years now, I can tell you that almost all forms of major business operations have this mentality. From grocery stores, to banks, to hospitals. It's all about not spending to these places.
I dunno why you'd want to keep using XP for anything
I don't know why you'd want to use Windows for anything? Just follow Lord Gabens word and switch to linux or linux based steamos
there's so little wrong with windows 8 when I hear people shit talk it I just don't understand honestly I forget I'm even using it sometimes it's pretty much the same oh metro, how ignorable you are.
I like Windows 8 over XP. XP was a great OS in it's time, but it's over a decade old now. It's time to upgrade.

The amount of time I've been inconvenienced by the pop out is exactly never. And it gives you a warning its going to do automatic updates days in advance too.
Pretty much every computer in my entire town runs XP Except the cash registers Which run MS-DOS or something
I can think of a few places where using DOS would still be applicable.
I can think of a few places where using DOS would still be applicable.
I know its used when an application needs absolute raw access to hardware since an application is allowed to take control of the system, which isn't really possible in modern OS's.
Here is a picture of the skyrocket
that went far like 1 inch up that's something right?
