Literally nobody is saying it's a shame that he's dead. We're just against the idea of celebrating a death. Fred Phelps was a bad man that raised a bunch of terrible people to do terrible things, but that doesn't mean we should have a goddamn party now that he's dead. The only reason we even know of the WBC is because we keep putting them on TV, we keep posting on Facebook and Twitter about how terrible, and keep giving them attention, so what will yet another protest achieve? Nothing, because fighting hate and anger with hate and anger is just fucking dumb. As someone earlier in this thread said, we should respond with compassion by letting him go.
There's a mighty difference between people throwing literal parties about the man dying and not being sad that he's dead, or even being happy that he's dead. I wouldn't say I'm happy about it, I guess it's more accurate to say that I don't care that he's dead, and I've actually been personally affected by his abhorrent congregation. My point is that the people in this thread that are acting so disgusted by the others making off-hand posts about being relieved by his passing just sound holier-than-thou and preachy. Like really, "Hey guys, did you hear that this terrible person died?" "Good." "Wow, a person died and you're happy, I'm better than you because I'm not."
He was an asshole and a huge homophobe anyways.
But he's not hitler, he may of been an asshole, but a life was still lost.

People who are opposed to the whole counter-protest thing are more replying to the people saying that they want to literally piss on the guy's grave, not people like you who are just casually going "cool, he's gone."
But he's not hitler, he may of been an asshole, but a life was still lost.
The guy literally was nothing more than a selfish asshole that caused sadness and pain. I'm sorry but I don't understand why it would be so good for him to stay alive.
one less piece of human garbage in the world :)
The guy literally was nothing more than a selfish asshole that caused sadness and pain. I'm sorry but I don't understand why it would be so good for him to stay alive.
I'm not saying it'd be good, but it's still someone dead.
The guy literally was nothing more than a selfish asshole that caused sadness and pain. I'm sorry but I don't understand why it would be so good for him to stay alive.
He did do that civil rights stuff for a while. Bible had nothing to support racism he said.
I'm not saying it'd be good, but it's still someone dead.
yeah true that, i'm gonna be saying the same thing when charles manson kicks it. why do people suddenly become redeemed of a lifetime of being shitcunts once they die? [editline]21st March 2014[/editline]
He did do that civil rights stuff for a while.
The guy literally was nothing more than a selfish asshole that caused sadness and pain. Some people are celebrating his death, while others are... well, not really feeling anything.
yeah true that, i'm gonna be saying the same thing when charles manson kicks it. why do people suddenly become redeemed of a lifetime of being shitcunts once they die?
Not sure if they get redeemed or not, but as a massive shitcunt I myself plan to find out someday. My guess that relies on the afterlife existing is that, if you were a shithead in life and failed to change before dying, you have to earn your redemption somehow once it's over. Maybe by doing good things as a ghost and/or in the afterlife, maybe by being reincarnated as a sort of do-over since you fucked it up last time, maybe just for showing up and feeling really bad about it all. Hell, you might even get redeemed just for dying, and perhaps even a terrible, broken life can teach good things. That, or you sit in a hole forever, and everyone starts kissing your ass because it's rotting and they feel bad for doing/thinking mildly shitty things to/about you that didn't matter anyways. Doesn't sound nearly as fun as ghost shenanigans, though. My shitcuntiness demands that I mildly annoy people as a floating ball of telekinetic ecto-splooge after I die.
good.
Rest in potato
I honestly thought this was about the Fred from Youtube that everyone hated who got his own Nickelodeon show.
Since when Facepunch members have been so low that they laught & have fun because somebody is dead?
Umm actually I mostly see people being respectful in this thread and that's a major attitude change from before.
