I'll never support always online gaming, BUT if any game were to be always online, Call of Duty would probably be the least worst to choose from.
True, but what exactly is the point in always-online for console games? There's nothing in it for the consumer and I can't see what Microsoft would have to gain from it. Hacker protection, somehow?

Hacker protection, somehow?
Not just that, but there re other problems as well - out here in India, internet isn't exactly reliable and not many people hook up their consoles to have a net connection of its own either. Stuff like this is just a dick move to anyone who had a shitty internet connection to begin with and was content with atleast being able to play the single player campaign, but with this always online shit, even that's out of the question. At this point it's almost like they want to fail.
Splitscreen CoD ≥ Online CoD
Oh, dude, absolutely. Only time I've played post MW CoDs has been offline. Ohh the joy of making the short ones at the fam-friend's house rage because I'm literally the only asshole who'll pack gas grenades in Blops. I think you're in that room? Happy-gas for good measure. If they rage, then it makes killing them more satisfying. If not, oh well, plenty of happy-gas to go around.

I always do it in hiding places.
Didn't MS say they're not forcing always online anymore, but developers can if they want/need to? It looks to me that it's more Infinity Ward's fault.
Didn't MS say they're not forcing always online anymore, but developers can if they want/need to? It looks to me that it's more Infinity Ward's fault.
So why force it on the Xbox One version and not the PS4 version?
So why force it on the Xbox One version and not the PS4 version?
It is probably due to the fact that online DRM was removed from the Xbox One very late in the development cycle of Ghosts. I wouldn't be surprised if nearly all the launch window titles have this.
It is probably due to the fact that online DRM was removed from the Xbox One very late in the development cycle of Ghosts. I wouldn't be surprised if nearly all the launch window titles have this.
makes sense
It is probably due to the fact that online DRM was removed from the Xbox One very late in the development cycle of Ghosts. I wouldn't be surprised if nearly all the launch window titles have this.
So this is something that can be patched out, then?
Theoretically speaking, say this was for PC, couldn't you disable your internet connection and set your system time to the release date? Wouldn't work for games that check online but you know...
Even for some games that check online it might fool it, a couple of years ago I got GTA IV for Christmas and I dunno what happened to my PC but it lost its date / time settings and thought it was like 2005. Despite being on the internet it still refused to activate till I noticed the date time being wrong.
So this is something that can be patched out, then?
It depends on the way the game is built.
A bit of an update. From Albert Penello
FYI it's 11pm on a Sunday, so people aren't exactly quick to respond to work email. I wanted to check in before I shut-down for the evening. This is what I believe is going on: We still have two more weeks before launch - the console is in a pre-release state. We are doing regular updates - I personally took one a few minutes before he posted. His build is now old. This is why we were saying we didn't want people on early - it's not done yet. This behavior is only because we are in pre-release. When we launch, console will work exactly as you expect today on 360. For sure this has nothing to do with requiring a connection. There is no "DRM removal" in the Day One update because none of the consoles were ever built with that stuff in it. This also has nothing to do with COD. The Day One update just brings the SW up to date with the latest versions vs. what's on the box. But there is no 24 check in, that's for sure.
This brings the question: Are people going to have to update the system instead of the out of the box version? I'm talking about people who cannot get decent internet or is in active military looking for a break. Or is this Microsoft on damage control once again? However, (Take this with a grain of salt) The guy who posted about the memory issues on neogaf is hinting otherwise. He replied to a comment about a theory if the DRM is game-to-game.

But yeah like everything else with xbox one this was blown out of proportion, he couldn't play because he was still connected to the internet apparently, he disconnected and it is working now.
Once again, I would like to point out something. 1) Guy brags out how he's playing Ghosts on Xbox One 2) Guy gets console banned. 3) Guy said he couldn't even play offline nor ACCESS SETTINGS 4) He's magically contacted by microsoft after people start talking about this. 5) He tells his followers that he will be unbanned after launch and then proceeds to dodge every fucking question regarding the system....and that he's been invited to the Microsoft Launch Party. 6) Claims he was able to access System Settings SOMEHOW and He's able to play offline. See what I mean? After they contact him, He dodges every question including the most basic question regarding themes...I smell something fishy here.
You know, once you ship the first item from your warehouse/manufacturing line to a retailer, that should be the date that you no longer ban people from having one. Dickheads Like I said in another thread. Microsoft caught wind of how popular the story was going to be and their sham of a PR department got to work. Why else would Major Nelson himself talk to this guy specifically, or they invite him to the launch party? Cool for the kid, but I can see the real reason why they did it Sony publicly stated that they weren't going to ban people from having their PS4 early, so another +1 to Sony
@yosp already said that early PS4 useres can go online without getting banned. Why is this so hard to understand? Banning someone who got their device early looks poorly on the company. [editline]11th November 2013[/editline] Hell, he even posted a video of Francis getting his device early on twitter:
he didn't get a playstation early it's a francis video.
Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity: it's called Xbox 360.
Microsoft has made some progress into fixing this. But not enough, IMO
he didn't get a playstation early it's a francis video.
He unboxed a demo unit iirc.
Remember this little quote? Microsoft has made some progress into fixing this. But not enough, IMO
that's a quote from the old CEO with the weird ugly horse face that quit a few months ago, not penello. penello's the fucking man, old CEO horse face guy isn't.
