Popular Mechanics has an article on why this is all pretty bullshitty and everyone needs to calm down

If you had read that article they are mostly talking about how the warp bubble part is nonsensical, which most would agree with. However they do not deny that it needs to be figured out why it generates thrust.

Well not quite, it does also mention that the "NASA ENDORSES THIS!" hype is overblown, and that no one has the slightest idea how it is supposed to work, even if Shawyer and White claim they do, which is important.
Here is a very convincing but technical Quora post from a very talented nutcase explaining why a warp drive (as some like Shawyer claim the EM drive could be) cannot work:

Very talented nutcase?

The intro paragraph to his Rationalwiki article sums up my thoughts pretty well:
"Luboš Motl is a physicist specialising in string theory. During his active career, he was a competent scientist and an author of mathematics textbooks. What he is mostly, however, is a raging asshole from hell. It's like he thinks this was the secret of Newton's success. Between 2004 and 2007, Motl was an assistant professor at Harvard University. He got the job through competence and talent, and lost it by being a raging asshole. He has not held a university position since."
Very good physicist, raging vitriolic douche (and climate change denier!).
