I think he meant a desktop one. Someone should check to see if you can get the same specs but cheaper.
You can get A LOT more performance for less money, but that's expected, you pay a lot extra for the portability when you buy a laptop, and it's not really possible to cram top-tier hardware into such a tiny space [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/9vf2xMy.png[/thumb] (click on it you dinguseses) [editline]6th January 2015[/editline]
You are forgetting that Lenovo absolutely ruined the ThinkPad, its nothing like what it used to be.
they're still really really good, they may not be as fantastic as they were back in the IBM days, but still
If the laptop was meant to be used fairly stationary anyway, wouldn't you use an external keyboard anyway? Also, why the weird design? Shouldn't the keyboard be at the top?
I think it's mostly about ergonomics. If the keyboard was at the top the computer hardware would have to be at the bottom so then the keyboard would be too far away to comfortably use. Plus putting the hardware of the laptop under the keyboard wouldn't work either since mechanical keyboards take up a lot of vertical room where as convention laptop keyboard are thin as hell but usually are pretty bad.
Is a mechanical keyboard needed in a gaming laptop? Aren't they more made for people that type a lot like programmers? They should make a workstation model with a serious design. That could be interesting to some people I think.
I'm afraid of buying a mechanical keyboard because I know that once I use one, I'll never be able to use a rubber dome or sheet without cringing again.
Gaming laptops are a blast while the hardware is up to date but they're heavy and expensive and you can't upgrade them. Only reason I can see for having one is if you move between two desks frequently and play a lot of games.
You can update certain components, ie RAM and the hard drives/SSDs. Maybe not the best things to upgrade, but still. Mechanical keyboards are nice, but not that nice... [editline]5th January 2015[/editline]
Is a mechanical keyboard needed in a gaming laptop? It looks like the kind of laptop some scumbag at the flea market will ask me to fix because he used it in bed and cooked the GPU.
I would prefer using a small mechanical keyboard like the Poker II, Planck, or JD40 over buying this and using it with the laptop of my choice. Much more reliable, can pair it with any laptop, and you don't have a bulky-ass laptop.
Or instead of having a mechanical keyboard bulking up the laptop... maybe just carry one with you when you need one. That's probably a little bit more efficient.
There are much sexier laptops with (almost) equal specs and a cheaper price tag. This thing kinda looks pretty bad.
This thing reminds me of a Commodore. [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/34/Commodore-64-Computer.png[/T]
I have absolutely 0 problem with my laptop keyboard in the games I play. This is mostly league of legends, not FPS games though.
This thing reminds me of a Commodore. [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/34/Commodore-64-Computer.png[/T]
...with a screen and gamer bling as well.
You are forgetting that Lenovo absolutely ruined the ThinkPad, its nothing like what it used to be.
Nothing compared to what HP did to the Compaq brand They made some absolutely top notch laptops and desktops back in the day, and now they represent low-end trash
This thing reminds me of a Commodore. [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/34/Commodore-64-Computer.png[/T]
It reminds me more of Toshiba and Sharp's early portables.
Now from what I was reading about this system a while ago, the top part pops off for easy access to components, that would be nice. Plus you've probably got some upgradability beyond RAM and HDD, I'd be disappointed if something at this size and price point didn't have MXM.
this thing is total garbage [editline]6th January 2015[/editline] DAMN i cant wait to spend money to severely limit portability and weight so i can have a really fucking loud keyboard
this thing is total garbage [editline]6th January 2015[/editline] DAMN i cant wait to spend money to severely limit portability and weight so i can have a really fucking loud keyboard
Reds aren't clicky and this thing isn't designed to be portable. It's meant as a desktop replacement that you can semi-easily transport to lans, not as a portable gaming machine you can use on the bus.
I would not pay more than $200 and change for a laptop at this point
this thing is total garbage [editline]6th January 2015[/editline] DAMN i cant wait to spend money to severely limit portability and weight so i can have a really fucking loud keyboard
yeah i understand buying a laptop instead of a desktop, but this is way too bulky to be called a modern laptop.
this thing is total garbage [editline]6th January 2015[/editline] DAMN i cant wait to spend money to severely limit portability and weight so i can have a really fucking loud keyboard
reds are a really nice cap cause theyre responsive but quiet the conception of 'mechanical keyboards are 2 loud!!!' is really only valid when you talk about Cherry MX Blues (in say the Razer Blackwidow) or Buckling Spring like in a model M [editline]6th January 2015[/editline] wow those specs running off of a 350 watt power supply? laptop parts are efficient a-f damn
I have absolutely 0 problem with my laptop keyboard in the games I play. I enjoy the short distance I need to press to engage a key. I'm used to it. I hate normal computer keyboards, though so I would definitely use a mechanical one if I was on a desktop

Which do have some click.
Any benchmarks or temps yet?
It's got browns. Which do have some click.
Browns ain't bad, I think my buddy had a keyboard with those caps, decent sound iirc
I have absolutely 0 problem with my laptop keyboard in the games I play. This is mostly league of legends, not FPS games though.
league isnt a game

could someone easily explain the market for these? it's both more cost-efficient and easier to repair to build a computer of this caliber as a desktop. and if these things are really designed not to leave a desk, then what the fuck is the point? why would you have this hideous thing sitting in the middle of your table, which you'd have to do to use the keyboard anyway? who is buying these things?

It was really nice for when I was constantly going to LAN parties. Other than that though, not worth it at all. Even an ITX system would have been a better choice at the time.
