NSA and FBI demands SSL (HTTPS) encryption master keys

I think they should all give the NSA the SSL encryption codes.
Then the webservice providers should create a new form of encryption rendering SSL obsolete.
Thus giving the giant middle finger to the NSA. Such as they deserve.
Why can't people riot and protest over shit like this instead?
Because the moment we protest, the national guard will be called and the masquerade will be dropped. It would be very ugly. The only reason the Treyvon/Zimmerman protests are allowed to happen because the government wants them to happen. If an actual protest took place the government would crush them immediately with extreme prejudice as an example to all who might try to "spread terrorism".
True, but you don't have to dismantle your entire country to fix problems. Only to remove the current powers entirely (which is what they needed in the various uprisings going on). Your government is meant to be fairly compartmentalised right? So you try and remove or fix the bit that's broken, rather than ripping it all up and starting again.
I'm not expecting riots, or violence. I'm expecting people who claim to love their freedom so much to actually stand up for it. Which I've not seen apart from lunatics who think 9/11 was an inside job.
It kept doing that to me. Aggravating.
Tearing the country apart would be a bad idea yes, but what other options are there? A rally? A couple thousand people rallying isn't going to do anything, you need millions of people. Even then it would still be difficult, due to people not giving a shit, or they just aren't informed enough, especially when it's obvious the government doesn't want any sort of massive change and desperately wants to maintain the status quo.

It really feels like the American government keeps pushing for powers regarding the internet despite being constantly shot down by the American people.
gibe master keys plz
Seriously, though. This is getting fucking ridiculous.

Webservice providers don't know shit about cryptography compared to NSA. NSA actually helped creating a lot of the standards for cryptography algorithms today.
It wouldn't surprise me if they're already close to getting the encryption keys on their own anyway.
Why is the NSA able to 'demand' the keys? what the hell
Why is the NSA able to 'demand' the keys? what the hell
Because America is a strange country where a lot of it's people will trade away some of their freedom's just to feel more safe. If they're not able to get the key's I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of scare came up involving them.
I've always wondered this. Are the US citizens really so complacent that the only protests are over young adults being shot? Even equal rights groups don't seem to protest, merely "rally". You guys can't complain about your rights being "eroded" when you aren't doing much to stop it from happening. If you stand by your constitution so dearly, why haven't you started an armed rebellion against your clearly corrupt government?
Oh. Right. You'd get stomped by your massive military, and it is and awful lot of effort when you can just bitch about it on the Internet (not for much longer if they get their way!).
Because the majority of people "rioting" (in the most loose sense of the word ever) are looking for an excuse to riot for funsies, and not particularly upset about anything.
Get a clue. It takes a fucking lot for ANY first world country to actually start fighting against the government. Come back and call me complacent after you fight your own govt and get them to stop arresting people for insulting Muslims.

Insulting Muslims? You're not believing the Daily Mail surely? And anyway, more power to the officer arresting them. You don't get arrest just for calling them names, you get arrested for being a vile human being using threats of violence and death.
It's like I'm really reading 1984

Remember the occupy wall street crackdowns? Peaceful protests and even aggressive ones stand no chance when kids are being beaten in the streets like its 1967
Remember the occupy wall street crackdowns? Peaceful protests and even aggressive ones stand no chance when kids are being beaten in the streets like its 1967
Occupy had quite a few detractors amongst the population, not just the government and media, which really didn't help. Remember, everyone saw them as freeloaders and jobless arts majors, not people struggling with debt issues, or just, well, people.
A protest for "freedom"? It might be easier to rile people up in favour for it. Seeing as a lot of people love to throw the word around passionately as it is.
Yea see it this way; because of one or two users a site must give up the key to it's entire encryption, possibly compromising every other law-abiding user of said site.
This is a ridiculous approach to a solution, like unwrapping every piece of USPS/Fedex/UPS then looking at it and then wrapping it back up again.
Everything can go wrong.

It's as if they are pushing people towards inconvenient ways of communicating, soon they'll be catching the carrier pigeons right outside your window.

Your argument has one major flaw: Carrier pigeons are no longer a common means of communication in the United States

the scary part is that you're probably right
What the hell are you talking about? NWO has always stalked us from the shadows
Question is not if but when they're going to try and push it
Your argument has one major flaw: Carrier pigeons are no longer a common means of communication in the United States
But soon I say! Soon they'll be carrying your external hard-drives!
They won't get them right guys?
Right?
it really just depends on how badly they want them
This is fucking annoying, they ain't even trying to be subtle in getting into anyones business. I don't think they understand why these SSL keys exist,

They can't. Humans hunted the dildo into extinction.
The joy of the current network model means we could relatively easily just drop a new encryption protocol in place of SSL if they do manage to get the keys. Though getting it adopted and used effectively is a different matter thanks to almost everything big using SSL now.
They just want to get the private keys of companies e.g Facebook,Google,Hotmail etc so they can decrypt that. They are not going to decrypt SSL, it does not work that way
People will just use a signing authority that hasn't given away their keys instead.. What's the big deal? There's thousands of signing authorities and you can make your own in 20 minutes. If you have sensitive information between two parties that will cooperate and use a new key, use your own.
They just want to get the private keys of companies e.g Facebook,Google,Hotmail etc so they can decrypt that. They are not going to decrypt SSL, it does not work that way
Fuck privacy right, in the name of freedom and terrorism.

So? They still have the keys from quite a few major websites and services. Them swapping to a new protocol would totally void any work the NSA has done.
Or they could just create new keys I guess, but still :v:
Perfect forward secrecy, guys. Hurry up and implement it, Google and co., and put it at the top of the algorithm priority list for negotiations.

Exactly! So that means they need to be an authorized body to start snooping! :downs:
Don't you brits have that thing where your government can just say it's illegal to talk about something, and illegal to talk about what you're not allowed to talk about? Maybe you should sort that out before you condescend everyone here.
I believe that it's called a Super-Injunction, right?
