James Bond will swig Heineken instead of Martinis in upcoming "Skyfall"
The martini line is in every Bond movie, so it's kind of tradition that he drinks it. I dunno, maybe they feel like people are just waiting for that line every time so they want to take it out.
Might be setting specific. Imagination if he has to go into a normal "pub". It would turn a few eyes to order a vodka martini. Admittedly ordering a heineken would do the same, but well heineken...
Why would you replace the real James Bond with a un-James Bond running around PRETENDING to be James Bond drinking Heineken instead of Martinis like the real James Bond would?
Also the name "Skyfall" sounds cliche as fuck
Jagerbombs and heinekkens
Why are people getting so worked up? Isn't it one fucking scene!?
Maybe he's just in some little pub/bar and ordering a martini would look ridiculous...

It's something iconic that's going away. I could understand, that if you were a fan for life, you would be disappointed in this development.

If theres one thing that REALLY gets on my nerves it's product placement, i can't find a single fucking youtube video nowadays without some dr dre beats in the background.
every.single.series nowadays
Good fucking god...
I don't really care about product placement, I've seen people refer to products so many times in the course of this thread alone, also facepunch does it on every post if you have not noticed. Why is a problem that it happens in movies? Personalty referring to a product by name just helps with the immersion.

That's not the point. It's like if in HL3 Gordon was given a knife in place of the crowbar.

don't be silly, bond movies are way more than watching him order a vodka marini for an hour and a half

it's gonna show up once in the whole film

But it's one scene isn't it!?

Yes, it's like if he lost the crowbar for maybe one tiny part of the game, and had to use a wrench instead, then he got the crowbar back again.
it's gonna show up at least once in the whole film
Fixed.
it's not like his gun is gonna have a heineken bottle duct taped to it for the whole movie

this will ruin the movie for people only as much as they let it

It is, absolutely. But I always grin a little when he asks for his Martini. I can imagine that if you were a hardcore fan one might find it quite a miss.
I think the movie will find some clever way to splice it in without selling out. This guy directing Skyfall also directed American Beauty, by the way.

beat me to the punch
I still think that 007 and James Bond is just a codename that multiple agents have used over the years, and I'd rather have the character evolve than be exactly the same for several decades.
I agree. That also seems to be the consensus among hardcore/longtime Bond fans
So if I got this right this movie is going on before all the others right ? It would make sense that Bond doesn't have much of a preference for alcohol yet and just picks some common beer then.
Even with the whole "James Bond is a codename" thing it still makes sense. The martini can just be a part of the character spies are told to impersonate in order to keep their cover, and the Heineken part could be an "out of character" part, if you see what I mean.

Entirely true, product placement doesn't bother me. I even enjoyed the product placement orgy The Island.
This is literally like if, in Star Wars, instead of flying around shooting planets in the Death Star, the Empire just threw rocks out of the window of a crosstown bus.
LITERALLY.
I have one of Flemming's James Bond books, and man... It's boring as hell.
There are barely any one liners.

I'd say it's more like Luke using a blaster for one scene instead of a lightsaber
I don't care what he drinks as long as the films not as fucking terrible as Quantum of Solace.

Well, if you want to exaggerate a bit more it's like if Luke and Vader fought each other in a gun fight rather than lightsaber duel.
But I think we should wait and see in what situation he orders/drinks a beer. If he's in an expensive bar then it will be awkward. I'm mostly hoping for the story to be good.
Bond has been going downhill ever since he drove a Ford Focus in Casino Royale. Really, a family hatchback.
