I guess this sends out a signal to other Middle Eastern leaders who might end up in the same position to just hold their ground and use military force because ultimately nobody's going to stop them.
First they didn't want western intervention, now they want it and it is way too late to help them.
It's the same old story. Fucked if you do and fucked if you don't

Misurata was under attack at the outskirts as well, and people in Benghazi are preparing for a full scale attack by the Loyalists.
I like most of what Ron Paul has to say but with this he can stick it where the sun doesn't shine.
Why? Haven't we learned that intervention in the middle east just shouldn't be done because it doesn't work. There is no reason to get involved.
Well. UK and France recognize the Council. They're kind of in the soup now.
You're all forgetting that a no-fly zone is incredibly difficult to implement with a country thats: a) Huge b) Covered in rebels with AA guns that have no command structure and lack military training in target recognition c) Would seriously piss off neighboring middle east countries which could seriously fuck shit up d) Would set a precedent that all rebels needs military aid from the west (Otherwise there would be racism/favoritism claims every god damn where) What happens when rebels shoot down a US plane? Or a bomber that accidentally hits a rebel camp? (They look kinda similar in the desert, you'know) This has nothing to do with the UN being lazy - it's finding out what to do in a logical manner, rather than being gungho. Now that some of the middle east is on our side, shit can be done
I would've thought that would be incentive to setup a no-fly zone faster
They aren't actually losing, large parts of Gadaffi's military are defecting and having in-fights. A lot of his air force has also defected, taking the planes with them for the rebel air force. His military is falling apart [editline]16th March 2011[/editline] Problem is they aren't really winning either, the tank forces just repel every counterattack
At least someone slammed a Mig-23 into Gaddafi's bunker
At least someone slammed a Mig-23 into Gaddafi's bunker
Did I miss something, what?
Did I miss something, what?
Yeah someone pulled a 9/11 on Gaddafi's bunker
Source?
I'm thinking the rebels are taking more of a tactical retreat, after the battle at Ras Lanuf and Bin Jawad. I'm pretty sure the rebel generals want them to retreat to Benghazi, as it's most likely a far more managable situation. Besides, more military forces are defecting to the rebels as well as officers, and an entire batallion has deserted at Sirte
