A listing for an official Steam app for Windows Phone has now popped up on the Windows Store, lending credence to previous rumors that an app was on its way. Though the app isn't yet available for download, its description notes that it will include and authenticator, along with community features and more.
Fuck, finally.
microsoft already sold off their phone division windows phone is dead lol
Well one steam guard issue down, how many more to go before I can sell my sale cards again?

You're thinking of the hardware part, not the software part. All future Microsoft Windows Phones will be made by the Surface hardware team.
Windows Phone is pretty lame to be honest. Bro sold it because of the problems with both the lack of apps and updates for them.
Windows Phone owns and if you don't care about having a ton of random small name apps it's the simplest phone OS. Literally a two screen OS: the Start screen with all your pinned apps which you can also nest inside of expandable/collapsible folders, and a screen with all your apps in alphabetical order.
Yeah if only it had apps.....
Bet the unofficial app will still be better.
Yeah if only it had apps.....
It does, unfortunately it's mostly third party stuff.
Also, no, it wasn't sold away, that was the hardware division.

does it have steam authenticator?

There was an unofficial chat app, and an unofficial authenticator app.

What're you talking about, "a two screen OS." How do iOS and Android have more screens, in the same regard?
Took their damn time.
Doesn't mean I'll buy another Windows Phone next time. They can go fuck themselves with the lack of apps.
???
Yeah how dare they clearly choose not to have the same app selection as other OS's.
I think Windows Phone is better than Android performace wise

They're designed around mutiple pages that you swipe across, whereas Windows Phone OS uses scalable icons for apps on the start screen all on one vertical screen, as long as you want to make it and you just scroll up and down. And when you put stuff in a folder on the start screen it expands the folder out to show more scalable app icons. You could group literally everything on your phone into folders fitting on the screen, or whatever really. It's just a very nice, clean design imo.

Same thing on android
does it have steam authenticator?
Yep, and chat via the steam web chat, few minor edits but it works amazingly well.
Last time I used the official steam app was on android and that thing was complete trash.
Wooo, all 5 of us are happy with this.
Holy shit took them long enough. It was really irritating to see Steam not provide an authenticator for my phone while still insisting that I use it.
Though if they really want to keep pushing it as hard as they are they should allow SMS authentication as well imo, so no one is left out.
better late than never haha amiright guys?

the lack of SMS auth is the most retarded thing tbh
Meanwhile the app still sucks on android
Lmao I literally just got a Galaxy S7 last week. I loved my Windows Phone but when Microsoft suddenly decided to backpedal on supporting my Lumia and not roll out Windows 10 support for it despite repeatedly announcing so I got pretty pissed.
Many convenience apps here in Switzerland also are never on Windows Phone so I just got tired of using it. Good phone, good hardware, but lack of apps/provider support has seriously started to kill it for me.
FINALLY CHRIST
group chats fucking WHEN
Voice chat support when? I've already passed to discord due to that.

Besides the boards being totally fucked for me, I haven't had any issues with it.
the actual app seems to get confused with the unofficial authentificator, like it's asking the code from my mobile except I'm already on my mobile ???
other than that, it's decent I guess
nice enough from valve to give a crap about noappsphone

It's a good OS, But it's just a very closed and limited one. If you don't care for apps or doing much of anything with your phone, it's fine. But if you want emulators, music apps, audio book apps, Twitch or youtube apps, camera apps, or anything that requires access to fucking anything on the phone... you need pretty much anything but Windows. What little there is on Windows Phone is unofficial, jerry rigged and a headache because of the hoops you have to go around for the apps to be able to do functions. Like bookmarking your place in an audiobook. You can't unless you import the audio file through that specific app, even if it's already on your phone, otherwise the app won't have the necessary permissions to do it
I always compare it like this. Imagine building a website (an app) using Dreamweaver (Android). You can pretty much do anything you want. Now imagine building a website with geocities (Windows Phone). You can only do what it gives you with the drag and drop editor.
I was happy but then I remembered I'm still on Windows Phone 7.8 :v:

There are apps for literally all of those, what're you talking about. Some apps are unofficial, but really solid. See: the top YouTube apps.

This, seriously. I tried using steam 2 factor authentication and honestly fuck the steam app. Using email it's basically the closest I'll get to having an SMS auth.
Also since everyone is talking about windows phone I liked the windows phone I had, and nokia hardware is really top notch. Though, I won't really go back because there really isn't a point to going back. It doesn't really offer much freedom and when it comes to closed-off mobile operating systems iOS has them beat.

Somewhat of a low bar referring to youtube, the official youtube app on android is pretty trash. Newpipe forever.
