Makes you wonder how anti-racists would react to a new Rush Hour.
as opposed to pro-racists?
Because its Zoolander?
But why male models?
also i really hope that trailer didn't just spoil all the jokes like they usually do. Definitely going to watch this
I'm sorry but this movie just looks like shit to me. It's like it's trying too hard. Maybe it's because it's supposed to be that way and I never saw the first one, but I don't like what I've seen so far.
Even the original was a "stupid" movie, but it never went "full retard" IMO. Surprisingly, this one seems to be like the first one, and it might even end up OK (if you can watch stuff like this).
I do not understand why anyone cares in the first place. Accept people for whoever or whatever they are, as long as they aren't hurting other people. Problem solved, enjoy your day.
you mean like what Robert Downey Jr. did in Tropic Thunder?

i guess we'll react the same as we did to Tropic Thunder and just not give a shit?
bad example because that entire movie is a mockery of hollywood's bad practices
It seems like every time there's a trans person in a move/tv show/game/whatever the fuck a bunch of people in the trans community get offended by it. Like, shouldn't you be happy that mainstream media is acknowledging trans people exist?
the character doesn't even appear to be trans
if anything it sounds like they identify as deitykin or something (All)

I understand why they're doing it, but that doesn't make it any less...yeah. Like when mainstream media started putting gay folk in, they were, more or less (at least the ones that stood out more), the flamboyant/flaming types that not all gay people were, which lead to the whole "whoa i didnt know you were gay" when not wearing hot pants and feather boas. These folks are trying to cover their bases and not paint the trans community as this off-putting color because, as said earlier, this is big media. Lotta people are gonna see it.
This is a bad movie to get worked up over, however, since its pretty much hyperboles in fashion format.
why do these people keep getting attention
Theses Long Goat Backwards Tricycle Quitters can complain all they want about this film but I'll probably watch this film.
bad example because that entire movie is a mockery of hollywood's bad practices
So context and the fact that it isn't done with malicious intent matters?
Oversensitive bunch of retards, can't they just fuck off in a corner and shut the fuck up?
So context and the fact that it isn't done with malicious intent matters?
Step out of line and you get dealt with a forum post, son.
Honestly can't wait for this film, even if it's awful and hasn't moved at all from the last film. It will still have mugatu and that silly camp humour I enjoy.
As a gay man, being associated with these dumbfucks is way more offensive than an over the top comedic character ever will be.
funny thing is they got all pissed about Simple Jack
Which is funny seeing as Simple Jack was satire of movies like Forrest Gump
why do these people keep getting attention
i don't know, why does FP love circlejerking over fringe activists when it comes to political correctness?
But drag queens and flamboyant androgynous people are a very real thing, unless whatever group is getting upset over this wants to deny that and claim Ben Stiller invented it
When people are living the stereotype, can you really call it one
This is among the stupidest things I've ever read on Facepunch
Some black people like watermelon. When black people are living that stereotype, can you really call it one??
Meanwhile I don't think the trailer really goes too far with its representation of genderqueer persons, but the dude asking if "you've got a hot dog or a bun" is really uncool and I think it's totally fair to be disappointed with that
[editline]21st November 2015[/editline]
I mean, the character in the trailer isn't even really presented negatively. They are the top model of the new world. The only negative I can see is if you think being presented as obviously androgynous is inherently negative.
The representation doesn't have to be negative for it to be concerning -- as it is now, society is clearly very confused and doesn't know how to deal with LBGTQ+ people, and so this sort of grossly inaccurate portrayal of those people and the blatant disrespect shown to them is very much negative. It's misleading and makes light of the issue in the wrong way (because yeah, there are ways you can tastefully joke about anything -- but this isn't one of those ways).
I thought that joke was bit bad taste but nothing too bad
but then again that might as well be the tagline of every Ben Stiller comedy film

You're probably a huge hit at parties.

Do you have an actual response
Petition this, petition that, I feel like an old man when I say this, but god damn grow a back bone sometimes. There's awareness and sensitivity to things, but there's so much over-zealous hyper-sensitivity to stuff that if anything just further damages their movement.
It's not about it being offensive, because frankly it's really not. It's about it perpetuating backwards treatment, and misrepresentation of transgendered people in an already stupid joke. Things that the movement is trying to eliminate.

You'll never get rid of the joke.
i mean i see where they're coming from but realistically if you watch this film and assume that trans people are like that it's probably a problem with the viewer
like, yeah, it's kind of a tired stereotype, but like, if you seriously can't watch a comedy film without realising that that's one isolated character you probably need to re-evaluate your principles
although on the other hand, growing up, i found myself laughing at real life LGBTQwhatever people (quietly) up until like age 14 (ironically i discovered i was bi at age 16) because i saw it in the media and figured it was okay, but then you also had members of my family and at-the-time friendship group chipping in so it's a bit of a complicated one

"It's not negative...but it is negative...and it's not offensive...but it's perpeturating misrepresentation of transgendered people, so it's not offensive but we need to eliminate it because it offends trans people by misrepresenting them."

That's not even really remotely comparable, Drag Queens (whom the guy you were responding to was talking about) are a self-identified group of people who deliberately present exaggerated displays of sexuality and gender-fluidity. Flamboyant LGBTQ people are also a staple of western culture, in the form of mardi gra for example, to the point where claiming that being flamboyantly gay or the like was offensive would in fact be offensive to people who organized such events.
Just because you find a specific cultural artifact uncomfortable doesn't make it objectively offensive/harmful/negative/negative-but-not-offensive/offensive-but-not-negative or any other qualitative synonym of stating it is bad or harmful. Nor does it make sense that a small group of LGBTQ activists who criticize a Adam Sandler movie be seen as the entire LGBTQ movement.
But why male models?
also i really hope that trailer didn't just spoil all the jokes like they usually do. Definitely going to watch this
Because main characters are male models and thats what screenwriters wanted to write about?
You'll never get rid of the joke.
It's less about getting rid of the joke entirely, and more about getting rid of the shit that makes it bad in order to make way for better jokes. Like y'know, you can make jokes about androgynous models without aiming for third-grader "wiener or fanny" type nonsense, stupid characters can still be written to make smarter jokes.
The appearance/mannerisms of Benedict's character are a bigger problem though, they just don't look well done. Though we'll see how that scene actually plays out when the movie's released. For all we know, the way that whole scene comes across in the trailer could simply be due to a bad editing decision.
That's really not comparable to actual blackface. That's someone who has had their makeup done tastefully to look black. Actual blackface is a massive exaggeration of racial traits that mostly takes the piss out of them "haha look at their funny big lips haha their skin is dark arent we funny hahaha".
That's not even the original design, which was pitch-black. Changed for obvious reasons.
wait what lgbtq? since when has it had a q at the end
trans person here
this boycott is stupid
Ditto.
I've watched this first movie and the whole idea with it is that the main characters are dumber than a box of rocks. I imagine that the second movie is keeping up the trend.
Furthermore, since it's a trailer, it's a bit early to be jumping on the boycott wagon since we don't really know how things are going to play out with the movie.
wait what lgbtq? since when has it had a q at the end
To be progressive~.
LGBTQ= lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, and queer/questioning. Depends on who you talk to. Questioning is better to go with since some people considered queer to be a slur.
