I don't know how I would survive without power for 11 days. The longest I've done is 2 days and I crawled into a bottle of vodka before the end of it.
going without power is definitely a unique experience.
during katrina we had to go about 2 weeks without it. lots of family scrabble was played.
Lets ONLY count electrical damage (Transformers, wires, power supplies, anything electrical, etc), how much money are we talking about that needs to be replaced? Or just how much is going to be damaged and is continuously being damaged?
So where is this magic power do you speak of then?
your either 12 or hard in the paint.
Wait so you mean a whole power system doesnt just magically remake itself instantly? I thought it was made by fairies or something and that it takes no time at all to be remade, no time.
Yeah, most of my school and I still don't have power. LIPA is a piece of shit and the mayor said we might not get power until thanksgiving. What the fuck is this shit.
[editline]10th November 2012[/editline]
I understand LIPA isn't magical but still this is fucking bullshit
When this hit Alabama and her neighboring states I was without power for about 3~ weeks. They can calm their tits.

Just because you had it worse doesn't mean we can't complain. Though that does sound awful and I'm sorry you had to endure that.
Barack Obama doesn't care about black people

I quit the job I had then the day before this started. Had I not, I most assuredly would've been caught by one of them.
"Are you sure your electronics are plugged in?" says generic Electronics Support Associate
During the ice storm last winter up here in Washington, the powerline going directly to my house was taken down by a branch. Since I live in a rural area, it was about two weeks before the power company sent a truck out to fix it. Luckily, we had a generator, but only enough gas to keep it running for about 8 hours a day.
My local power company has been tweeting what their workers have been doing in New Jersey and New York.
They firstly need to get the water out before they decide to turn back on the power, I mean come on now think of the train tracks being wasted you know turn the power on them and you'll wreck the whole of america, and other places.
The water needs to go back into the sea where it belongs!
Everyone should get a bucket and spade to help out..
Also the USA will slowly sink into more debt just think of that 210k of people
You seem like a good hearted person, but.. Like.. Read twice before you just that reply button next time yah?
It's not that simple. It's hard when some people have $200 worth of groceries rotting in their warm refrigerators, the few of us who have generators have to worry about them getting stolen, we have to worry about looters breaking into our houses, the rest of us who don't have generators are feeling 30 degree weather inside their homes.
So, I'd like to see you go 11 days with no electricity, no job, no food, no heat and no warm water, and the constant fear of some fucking scumbags breaking into your house at night when you can't do jack shit about it because your phones aren't working to call the police. And I haven't even brought up the people who have had water enter their homes. I actually just want to say fuck you for being so naive.
[editline]10th November 2012[/editline]
Oh yeah, then there's the trees that went down, the dangerous wires dangling in every street and the exploding transformers making your neighborhood a fireworks display.
So yeah, let us grab a warm, scuzzy fucking beer and sit back in our freezing houses while I wait for power to come back - who knows when?
Should have prepared better by eating all the perishables they had and buying nothing but non-perishable food, especially ones that don't require heat if all you have is a microwave or an electric stove.
Generators are great and all but you shouldn't depend on them in a disaster like this, everyone should have assumed they'd be down for at least two weeks minimum when the first warnings came about and prepared for it because when nature gives you a backhand you're at it's mercy.
Don't know why people expected this to turn out differently...
You want answers? A big ass hurricane tore some shit up, and you don't understand the scope of the damage. So [del]sit down and shut up[/del] please wait patiently while 14000 workers restore power for you.
This.
When I was working in this field it would take roughly 8 hours to replace 2 residential utility poles with all the hardware (but not the wire). Never worked on a distribution tower (the giant metal ones) but I would imagine those are more than a day to replace. One of the biggest problems I could imagine with getting their utility back together is a lack of equipment/hardware. They would have to have a shit ton of spare poles, transformers (and there's more than one kind), and miles of copper wire. I understand being frustrated, but shit guys, this is one of those jobs you don't want jerry rigged together.
I wish I can tell those hurricane sandy victims that even though they dont got electricity, as long as they white, they got power.
I was one of the few who only lost power for 5 days. I really hope Desolate and others get power back really soon. Otherwise, he gets some great views with his telescope :v:
Well, looking from an optimistic viewpoint, perhaps a lot of jobs could be created to fund fixing this?
This might be a stupid thing to ask, but if you don't have power how are you posting that?
Phone, once I get power back/if I get it back I shoe you guys before and after pics of my backyard. Its currently missing 6 80 ft trees and they're allover my neighbors house

With all those trees gone I have. A great view now!
Con-Ed is literally on its way out, They say "We didn't know it was going to be this bad" Yet it's been in the news weeks prior that this is going to wreck us.
Cuomo and Astrino are literally pushed to the point of just eminent domain there poles and kick them out for failing to serve public needs.
my said teacher said they're complaining because they expect the government to do everything for them

Then they should live in North Korea.
There government does everything for them, even thinking :v:
[editline]10th November 2012[/editline]
You guys should seriously start using underground cables in built up areas.
I love how glabber made it sound its obama's fault. People are dumb, they only want government to control when it suits them.
how did I do that? It was you guys that did all the posting in this thread. I haven't even posted a single opinion on this.
It's now been 13 days and I still have no power. We're setting up generator tonight though that we borrowed.
I love how glabber made it sound its obama's fault. People are dumb, they only want government to control when it suits them.
NinjaS did that, who is also more delusional
I mean, Glaber is no doubt very crazy, but NinjaS is from another realm.

Jobs like this need training. You can have any dumbass walk off the street and start installing telephone poles or checking home electrical systems for damage or shorts. This will be resolved and cleaned up before anybody could finish their classes and get certified.
