Council paints wonky white lines - insists it was deliberate
Idiots who speed are going to speed/drive recklessly anyway. Things like chicanes or speed humps/bumps are about slowing down all the law-abiding drivers and preventing accidents from people who are in a rush or doing make up or something stupid like that and bang into the car in front accidentally.
The thing is, everyone speeds if the road conditions allow them to. Studies have consistently proven that speed limits are irrelevant and that people generally drive at the speed they feel comfortable at, so even if you set the speed limit to something super high, it wouldn't change most people's speed at all.

If you are forced to drive at a speed artifically lower than what would be a comfortable speed, that is actually quite unsafe. So you have to be careful about saying things like "idiots who speed", because everybody goes over the posted speed limit at times.
hell that's what you do in Europe to slow people down? what if a service vehicle like a fire truck had to go that route
all they do over here is just throw some speed bumps down and then they only are there till the first snow and then the plows just tear them up
Vehicles here aren't gigantic here... an emergency vehicle would fit, I'm sure they planned for it.
At what rate?
Unless they're driving over them it seems like it'd take awhile.
These are usually only built in sets of two in the uk, it would take about 5 seconds to get through it.
I work in Wimborne and have, on occasion, driven this road. The small section in the main picture? Nobody bothers, most drive it like the lines are completely straight.
There is, as you can see in the other pictures in the article, another traffic calming 'wiggle' further up the road but that's much longer and forces people to move over as there are some marked parking bays on one side of the carriageway. That section works as a traffic calming measure though!
they dont even give a shit about the lines in the first place lol

Agreed. Why would anyone actually follow the lines in the first place? Just drive straight no need to abide by stupid lines. Not like city drivers in general follow every traffic line and light to begin with.
