Women aren't allowed to drive? Finally somewhere I can feel safe on the roads.
This just in, someone got punished for breaking the law.
Good job, you're supporting a sexist, dumb, idiotic law that should never of existed.
This just in, someone got punished for breaking the law.
This just in, school funding has apparently been cut by 90%. Moar at 11.
They still aren't allowed to leave without a male escort.
So if your male escort is a total chauvinist pig who likely has zero interest in the rights and well being of women, he could simply refuse to escort you. Thank the good spirits this is Saudi Arabia we're talking about here, right?
I don't see how women could be any worse at driving than men. My mom is an excellent driver, she drives far better than most people. Never had a single accident since...ever i think. (or atleast not in my lifetime(i'm 18))
I think its just because men tend to notice bad female drivers more than bad male drivers. I've seen my fair share of horrid women drivers, but I've also seen plenty of bad male drivers too. Majority of the time, its because they are on their cell phone.
Women aren't allowed to drive? Finally somewhere I can feel safe on the roads.

On the other hand, they probably have really low accident rates.
You can joke about it but driving in Saudi Arabia is basically like saying "Ok, that’s enough of life for me let's see how quickly I can get myself killed" Ask anybody who drives in Saudi, it's like every person is driving at 90 on slicks and the only reason they made it to work this morning is though sheer luck and timing. Plus she was caught in Jeddah, it's much more religious than Riyadh and to some extent Taif the religious police there go nuts for this sort of shit.
I sorta stopped doing "women are bad drivers" jokes when I found myself having very hard time at driving anything, and when the driving teacher who "took me to school" somewhat litelarly was actually a woman, woman who was very good at it.
You do realise that North Korea is hardly a bundle of laughs right? You come across as a little ignorant.
Yes, I realize that their people are suffering, but I still find it humorous when their government makes threats or acts as if it's actually a sovereign state. (It might as well, in my book, be the personal property of Kim Jong Il)
But... But... I thought Saudi Arabia was a cool country.
It is unless you're a woman.

I was just at mcdonalds and they had a TV showing CNN. The Saudi King ordered the charges to be dropped. I'll see if I can get a source. Edit: http://mashable.com/2011/09/28/saudi-princess-tweets-female-driver-lashing-sentence-revoked/

Giving voting rights to women isn't much in Saudi Arabia. It is more of a way to fend off bad publicity. In places like America and Europe, voting is a big thing. It's how we elect our leaders. That's not how it goes in Saudi Arabia. The ruler is the King. All the elections are for is to pick the local governers who will do anything the King says, because they have to.
On the other hand, they probably have really low accident rates.
Are you kidding me, it's insane over there.
Seriously? No one has brought up that song in "American Dad"? I'm not gonna post it. There could be some Never-post-American-dad-songs-or-get-banned conspiracy i never heard about

He also alluded to them being able to be nominated for municipal elections, which have yet to even be announced, never mind the incredible odds stacked against a woman actually being elected. None of this counts for the elections on Thursday, which is only the second election they've had since 1963. They aren't getting a voice, they aren't receiving tangible rights, they're receiving the illusion of progress and nothing more. "We don't really think now that we've been promised a real right because it's been postponed." said Wajeha Al-Huwaider, a prominent Saudi women's rights activist. "The king could have said this is happening now because the next election is going to happen this Thursday -- it wouldn't have been a problem to postpone this election for a month and have women participate in this round." "For the Shura council it's another year and a half, for the municipal election it's another four years -- anything could happen during that time," she said. "Whatever can be given can be taken." "That will give time for extremists to reverse the decision," said Al-Huwaider. "The government thinks they will give time for people to adjust to the idea, but if you're against something, you'll never change your mind and if you're for it you'll never change your mind. Why do they hesitate when it comes to women's issues? The government always hesitates." This Thursday's elections come after more than two years of delays, so any time frame for when future elections may take place is not seen as a solid plan. Amnesty International said the announcement that women will be given the right to vote is "no guarantee of rights."

Why did so many people rate this funny? It's simply not, it's not one of those adorable news stories where North Korea acts like it's an actual country or something. Seriously, Saudi Arabia is a massive pile of shit. They are a feudal state stuck and desperately clinging to traditions and views the civilized west abandoned around 1900. I was really hoping that we would see them affected by the Arab spring, but unfortunately not.
As bad as Saudi Arabia is North Korea is way worse. Waaaayyyyy worse.
If you have money, I don't think they care.
If you have money in any country religion isn't much of a problem.
oh cmon, would you rather go with ? drunk driver or women ? i know i would choose drunk driver, women can't drive for shit
This is the most forced and unfunny joke I have seen in a while.
