It used to, before the stupid fuck war powers act of 73'.
still, the president cannot simply pull out or into anything congress has a lot more power than we might think
Never said it would be a good idea, I'm just saying that Obama is making a big fucking show about the withdrawal strategy as if it is something really dramatic and epic, when, in fact, it would be easy as cake. He just likes to make a big charismatic show in order to mask the extended governmental powers he's actually aiming at establishing.
conspiracy theory much? No, he won't exit like that because it's a bad fucking idea. Do people really believe stupid shit like this? I don't even like Obama by any stretch, but do people really think this shit?
Just requoting if no one saw it
What's wrong with it is that would be a WASTED FUCKING INVESTMENT. Bush set out on a mission in Iraq and Afghanistan. Was it right, was it needed? That will always be in debate. But the fact of the matter is that we're there now, like it or not. And we've spent countless time, resources, and human lives trying to finish what we set out to do. To pull out would be to quit. It's not impossible what we're trying to accomplish over there, and we're getting closer than what the media lets on to what we were initially aiming for.
Article II, Section 2, Clause I of the United States Constitution, the President: ...shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States.
yeah read up on what that means
That used to say adfh
My edit powers are too fast. I am very mistakable.
commander in chief means battlefield command, not the power to go to war
bullshit, there's wars going on right now that neither you, the media, or anyone besides the president and certain American servicemen will ever know about
still, the president cannot simply pull out or into anything congress has a lot more power than we might think
The president can for 60 days, he/she just needs to tell Congress beforehand.
bullshit, there's wars going on right now that neither you, the media, or anyone besides the president and certain American servicemen will ever know about
what a horrid argument [editline]06:36PM[/editline]
The president can for 60 days, he/she just needs to tell Congress beforehand.
congress has power to block, plus how are you gonna go to war without military funding?
bullshit, there's wars going on right now that neither you, the media, or anyone besides the president and certain American servicemen will ever know about
You watch too many james bond movies
congress has power to block, plus how are you gonna go to war without military funding?
I'm not refuting the fact that a 60 day war is useless; i'm just saying that the President technically does have authority to start a military action without Congress approval, just notification.
conspiracy theory much? No, he won't exit like that because it's a bad fucking idea. Do people really believe stupid shit like this? I don't even like Obama by any stretch, but do people really think this shit?
Sorry to smash your whole fragile perception of reality, but the fact of the matter is that there are countless unknowns behind every political decision. It's not a conspiracy theory - it's the fact that there are more *conspiracies* (if that's what you wanna call them) going on then you will ever know existed. And I think Obama is one of the weirdest presidents we've ever had, in terms of some of the decisions he's making. He seems very much aimed at increasing governmental jurisdiction in areas it's never before in America ever even touched. [editline]06:39PM[/editline]
You watch too many james bond movies
Actually, they're called books. And just because the concept I'm talking about here is shocking and ugly doesn't mean it's untrue.
no you are confusing congress with the president such an easy mistake to make
He's actually right. The only thing he can't do is declare war although he can still send troops in without a declaration of war and congressional approval for 60 days.
If we did not deal with the Taliban I am sure something else would of happend look at all the crap that they pull over the world, they blow them selfs up over there religon and to put it frank they fucking hate everything American, I know America is not the perfect place, I know we do stupid things but if we did nothing it would continue to happen on even a far grander scale, lets say they somehow got there hands on a nuclear warhead and somehow got it into New York Harbour... Should we just sit back and do nothing? Not to mention why are you pulling the Bush Card? World War I, we were dragged into that by Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat. World War II, we entered that war under the leadership of Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat. The Korean War, brought to you by Harry Truman, a Democrat. Then there's Vietnam . . . take your pick, John Kennedy or Lyndon Johnson, both Democrats.
Harbour? Are you a Brit that wishes he was American or something? You're so ill-informed. Come back and try again.
what a horrid argument [editline]06:36PM[/editline] congress has power to block, plus how are you gonna go to war without military funding?
I don't know how you Brits do things, but America's governmental system is so ridiculously complex that a smart white-collar will thrive because he can sail through so many loopholes to get what he wants.
Does anyone realize how insanely difficult/impossible it is to get a nuclear weapon into the US?
Does anyone realize how insanely difficult/impossible it is to get a nuclear weapon into the US?
Of course it's really difficult but very possible. I think of several ways. Maybe in a cargo ship where they pay off customs somehow, across the Mexican border (very unlikely). Hell, people manage to ship several tons of drugs in cargo container ships so a tactical nuke doesn't seem that unlikely although there are radiation scanners and other ways to detect weapons. But, like I said, if they manage to bribe customs or detonate it in the harbor of a major city before they get to port.
Does anyone realize how insanely difficult/impossible it is to get a nuclear weapon into the US?
Do you realize how simple it would be? No. Ok, so I'm China. We got planes flying to and from China all the time. I hide one of my 240 nukes on one of those planes and use insurgent-officials (spies, for all you dummies) to pick it up once it reaches the airport, and then take it to wherever from there. All it would take is some inside work.

I doubt they'd do that.

In all honesty i'd love to meet him. Bet he's fun to hang out with.
Dick Marcinko, an ex Navy SEAL, once described the system we have for detecting incoming terrorist attacks from outside the country. He said that we have equipment to detect where things are (a.k.a. radar detects planes, boats, even cars in certain cases, etc.). But, even if radar did detect an incoming nuke hidden on a plane from China, it's entirely possible that it could be too late to stop once it's detected. In fact, it probably will be too late due to the nature of the operation involving inside-moles who will simply not take action once notified of a problem.
Why hasn't that happened yet then?
CIA vs. China. If we can spot a plot before it unfolds, we kill it early. But, plenty of shit has gone over our heads in the past. I mean, fucking 9/11? England's subway attack? We've gotten better since the War on Terror started, but our systems aren't foolproof. [editline]06:56PM[/editline]
Stop talking out of your ass. I doubt you even know anything about the security they have.
Lol, used to work at an airport, buddy. I'll tell you straight-up that there's plenty of ways to get some seriously bad shit done. Hope you sleep tight tonight, in your little "safe" perception of the world. [editline]06:58PM[/editline] BTW, you're a gamer, right? So I would assume you've played (or at least heard of) the Airport level in Modern Warfare 2, right? Tell me this right now - what's stopping some wackos from doing that right now? Really tell me - what would stop them before they did some serious damage?
Here I thought you were going to say "That's what you think, the government probably covered up nuclear attacks all across the USA"

I like how this thread went off topic talking about politics, when this thread was created for Bush's book.
love it when that happens :v:
