wtf closing all schools? america wat
COUNTY not Country.
im aware of the difference, and there are multiple schools in a county so this is kinda an overreaction
its just that these kind of things usually happen in america for some reason
wtf closing all schools? america wat
COUNTY not Country.
I mean you guys wouldn't want teachers handing out assignments telling them to write "Jesus Christ is the one true son of God" in hebrew, would you? Why is this different?
I wouldn't really mind tbh.
didn't they prove jesus was an arab, no?
didn't they prove jesus was an arab, no?
they didn't prove anything, just said "yeah if he even existed at all he was probably an arab and not some skinny bearded italian looking dude"
didn't they prove jesus was an arab, no?
30% of Americans think we should bomb Bethlehem!
Why would there be a need to close the schools as a safety precution? Just because a few moronic parents got butthurt that their kids were briefly shown writing from another culture? I hope the teacher doesn't face disciplinary action for this, it's fairly bullshit as it is.
You are a retard if you really think this is the scheme.
Rational people can have their beliefs and still tolerate or learn about other cultures.
It's a religious oath that they had to sign. It doesn't mean much to non-religious people.
Maybe a Christian here can correct me but isn't 'Jesus' the son of God, not God itself? I'm sad that the irony of that statement in this context is lost to that person.
Incorrect. Jesus is not the Father is not the Holy Spirit. Jesus is God. The Father is God. The Holy Spirit is God. There is only one God. All three are God.
This is known as the mystery of the Trinity. It doesn't make sense. It's not supposed to.
In Trinitarian doctrine, God exists as three persons or hypostases, but is one being, having a single divine nature.[52] The members of the Trinity are co-equal and co-eternal, one in essence, nature, power, action, and will. As stated in the Athanasian Creed, the Father is uncreated, the Son is uncreated, and the Holy Spirit is uncreated, and all three are eternal without beginning.[53] "The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit" are not names for different parts of God, but one name for God[54] because three persons exist in God as one entity.[55] They cannot be separate from one another. Each person is understood as having the identical essence or nature, not merely similar natures.[56]
As far as I know this is the mainline Christian belief.

It's pretty normal, at least over here, to be asked to copy out the Lord's Prayer.
I wouldn't want a school assigning its students to write 'Jesus is the one true savior' in flowery script either. Asking students to copy some calligraphy as an exercise is totally reasonable, but asking them to write out a statement of adherence to a religious faith is stepping over some bounds IMO.
As other users have pointed out, I think it's somewhat sacrilegious. Some people take this statement very seriously, it would like kids being forced to recite the Nicene Creed.
On the other hand knowing the central statements of a faith and getting better insight into how it is lived, written, and interpreted is an excellent way to vicariously experience the culture.
Jesus is not God and it has never been stated in the Bible. But he is son of God. And Jesus was a jew both the religion and the ethnicity. And the Bible also stated that he looked like a normal person. So yes he was a jew/arab.

Like people have said early, no point in debating it because it varies from denominations.
We should ban braille next. I mean, look at it.

Terrists probably use this for secret codes planning bombings. I bet this says "kill amerikan" or something, those fucking muslins.

There's more to Christianity than just the Bible.

Kids should learn about the fundamentals of a faith seperate from a filler activity that inadvertingly has them pledge to one of Islam's pillars of faith.
People learning about Islam and other faiths is great but having them write "there is no god but Allah", etc does cross a line to some extent.
how fucking idiotic do you have to be to come up with making kids write out the shahada
what the fuck do you expect to happen
There is so much wrong with this comment that it just has to be satire.
isn't Allah just commonly seen as another interpretation of God? i'm not up to date on the Muslim faith but as far as i'm aware most religions are essentially just different takes and interpretations of the same overall God.

Its down to interpretation whether the holy trinity are three different entities or three manifestations of the same god.
I dont really think the reaction is all that strange. Imagine if a school in a predominantly muslim country had to write in hebrew about the jewish religion. Its not the end of the world, but it would be a bit shortsided to handwave any and all objection to it by saying its just bigotry that makes people dislike it, when there is obviously more at play.
And just because the people from the article arent exactly eloquent in expressing their qualms with the school assignment, doesnt mean their opinion about the matter is any less valid.

Shutting down schools for two days is a bit retarded though, I'll admit.

That's a shit comparison. If the teacher also gave them an assignment to write the Shahada, but in another language, and the kids wouldn't understand it, it would be the same level of stupid. Just stop.
And no one wants to ban a fucking language because of this.

Hint: the braille says "Praise Jesus"
IE it would be very, very similar if they were tasked with copying the braille.

Yes, I know. I don't know what's your point here, but this doesn't disprove my argument.
COUNTY not Country.
Regardless, that's still way too big of an overreaction over nothing.
I'm a Muslim, but I don't think the school should even ask the students from other religion to write down a caligraphy/sentence that directly announce "there is no god except Allah".
Correct me if I'm wrong, but If I were a Christians, I wouldn't want my kids to write/recite phrases that proclaim themselves as Muslim just like that.
At least, not the one that holds the foundation of your faith.
Now I'm sure the teacher's heart was at the right place, but I/m sure there are other phrases that can be used, like
'I love kebabs'
'Give peace a chance'
Closing all schools is an overreaction but I don't think that people being upset about a homework assignment requiring children to write a Muslim prayer are necessarily wrong.

This was my take on it. I personally wouldn't care since naturally the kids writing it don't mean it and it doesn't magically turn them to a different faith - but I'm an atheist. I can totally see it making religious folks upset and they have a right to be uncomfortable about it. What we saw, though, was a massive overreaction fueled by a blind hatred of Islam.

i dont expect the school to fucking close for two days

this is the most insane unjustified reaction ever
I went to a tiny backwoods Christian school, and we had to remember the Shahada for the Islam section in our religious studies class. And that was in East Tennessee, which is pretty redneck, but nobody raised a fuss.
