This. The idea that by 2100 we will have a interconnected utopia of genetic engineering and flawless quality of life and technology is at best, optimistic.
2200 is a more realistic number. Even then any sort of future predictions ultimately end up being retarded because for all we know we could hit a huge fucking stall in advancement.
or a gigantic breakthrough, you can never tell with these kinds of things.
and I think 200 years is a bit too far off, look at history over 200 year span, and then look at what we accomplished in the last 100, Lots of shit we did in that amount of time.
but then again you can't predict these things, it could take 50 years or 500 to get to these goals, so it's altogether pointless to dwell on it :downs:.
Exactly my point however. Why does everyone assume that this technological fast track we're on for the time being will continue forever more? Things go in cycles, and the possibility that we hit a wall is just as likely as utopia by 2100.

So we're in agreement,
We have no idea.
lol
Year 2100 I'd be 109 years old. Jesus Christ. What scares me more, is that I'd most likely live to that age because of technology (medical research) in 10-20 years. Fuuuuuckkk.. This is gonna suck.
I believe that mostly advancing information technology and cybernetics will shape our world this century. I don't see large scale space travel happening any time soon.
Oh great flying cars, suddenly the death rate for car crashes hits 100%
Theres a reason we dont have flying cars lol, where we're going, we need roads.
In the future people will be able to read too!
Being realistic, possibly being able to regrow organs/limbs.
Quantum computing well be as commonplace as silicon processors.
Religion would have been largely relegated to extremists/fanatics.
Other than that, not much else, even better tasting beer? :D
The one thing on that list I would give anything for is the space elevator.
That would be our springboard to the cosmos. God speed materials scientists, we're all counting on you.
God speed materials scientists
I know it's just a saying but :psyduck:
I know it's just a saying but :psyduck:
Yeah I was thinking that after I wrote it. Let's try again
"Science speed, materials scientists!"
[tab]Also, "materials scientist" looks weird but the alternative is "material scientist".[/tab]
I doubt it. There was some old drawing I see this year of what people thought the year 2000 would be like, and it's so fucking off.
You know what are as absurd as this article?
Future predictions from the past:
http://www.paleofuture.com/
You honestly cannot predict future, at least not in 100 years to the future.
To be honest I don't like the sound of that... Robots becoming cooks and musicians?
To be honest I don't like the sound of that... Robots becoming cooks and musicians?
Why not? Are we humans afraid of our creations challenging us?
[editline]22nd March 2011[/editline]
I mean, fuck, I'd allow humanoid robots to have their own category in the olympics if it was possible.
Glad I'll be rotting in the ground before our world becomes this
For the sake of everyone in 2100 I hope this prediction is either wrong or we're all dead by then
I have to agree with this. The main reason life is exciting and worth living is because no one is perfect, making for really interesting situations.
Neat, too bad I'll be dead
Not if transhumanism kicks off.

What? Why woud living longer suck?
Why did this thread remind me of Gattica?
Neat, too bad I'll be dead
Not necessarily. Think about it, most of the time the only organ that fails in "old age" deaths is the heart, right?
It's getting easier and easier to replace those flimsy little things :v:

Except Apple instead of The Mechanicus.
No prediction made today of what the world will be like in 100 years will be correct.
I can assure you it will be completely different.
Unless you get really really lucky. What if ducks suddenly grew sentient and enslaved all human life?
Bet ya :20bux:

I'm a human, not a machine.
I'd prefer to die than live forever as a computer controlled machine.
I was born as a human, I will die as one too.
I don't think we'll all be dead in 2100.
Maybe old, but not dead. Hell, I intend to live to 2100; 105 years isn't really all that old anymore. Uncommon, but certainly not unheard of.
Neat, too bad I'll be dead
Medicines a hundred years ago rendered the average age in "developed countries" 60.
You can't know if future medicines will keep you alive at 117 and going strong.

Fixed
Anyone rich enough to build a space elevator probably wouldn't really bother.
We need to go back to the future...
Fixed
Yeah, pretty much that's what I meant.
But seriously, who would give away their freedom, humanity, emotions and life to be immortal and more powerful than normal humans? Noone with common sense and respect towards life.

You don't have to be computer controlled to be a transhuman, just a few upgrades.

Okay, well robotic arm would be quite cool to be honest.
But only if I had a reason to get it, like amputation.
