1. Tax cut for the middle class Leader Justin Trudeau said a Liberal government’s first piece of legislation would cut income taxes for Canadians earning between $45,000 and $89,000 a year. The promised reduction in the middle income tax bracket to 20.5 % from 22% would reduce the annual tax burden by up to $670 per person, the party platform says. But in order to cover the projected loss of tax revenue the Liberals are asking “the wealthiest one percent of Canadians to give a little more.” A new federal tax bracket of 33% for people making more than $200,000 a year would push the combined federal-provincial income tax rate above 50% in some provinces for the wealthiest. 2. Syrian refugees Trudeau accused Stephen Harper of not doing enough to help migrants fleeing Syria. While the Conservatives set a target of accepting 10,000 Syrian refugees by next September, the Liberals promised to up that to 25,000, beginning immediately. The platform promises to spend $250 million, including $100 million in the current fiscal year, “to increase refugee processing, as well as sponsorship and settlement services capacity in Canada.” 3. Marijuana The Liberals are promising to legalize marijuana, arguing that the current system “does not prevent young people from using marijuana and too many Canadians end up with criminal records for possessing small amounts of the drug.” Trudeau has promised to get to work on the changes “right away” if elected, but he could not offer a firm timeline. “We don’t yet know exactly what rate we’re going to be taxing it, how we’re going to control it, or whether it will happen in the first months, within the first year, or whether it’s going to take a year or two to kick in,” he said. 4. Missing and murdered indigenous women The Liberal platform promises to “immediately launch a national public inquiry” into the killings and disappearances of indigenous women and girls. “We need to get justice for the victims. We need healing for the (families). And we need to ensure as a society, as a country, that we stop this ongoing tragedy,” Trudeau told a town hall hosted by VICE Canada this month. 5. Fighter jets The Liberals have promised to cancel the Conservative purchase of F-35 jets, which is expected to cost $44 billion over the jets’ four-decade life cycle. “We will immediately launch an open and transparent competition to replace the CF-18 fighter aircraft,” the platform says, specifying that the F-35’s “stealth first-strike capability” is not needed to defend Canada.
http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-politics/goodbye-f-35s-hello-marijuana-what-the-liberals-are-likely-to-do-first
I was going to make a witty comment about guns and boating accidents but damn, they're actually going to dump the F35. That sounds like a really bad idea given all of the F35's competitors are more expensive and less capable.
I wouldn't place much hope on marijuana being legalised.

About fucking time I'll say, the conservative government was too busy jacking itself off to do any fucking responsible work
That sounds like a really bad idea given all of the F35's competitors are more expensive and less capable.
There are so few countries out there that pose a threat to us for any need for us to justify a high-performance fighter. Frankly we can tell Lockheed to eat shit since they've STILL yet to deliver their overbudget and extremely late piece of American garbage.
so what are they going to buy instead? planes that are already outdated? chinese planes?
Well, there is the CF-105. [t]http://i.imgur.com/4Olf0Sn.jpg[/t] Boeing also has a couple options.

The Eurofighter, Rafale and Super Hornet are all more than good enough for Canada and way cheaper than the F-35.
Why would Canada need fighter jets ? It's not like USA plans to attack them... or do they.
so what are they going to buy instead? planes that are already outdated? chinese planes?
Can you tell me why we need an over-budget and late Stealth fighter? Are the moose in the Rockies and the prairie dogs in Saskatchewan mobilizing to take over the government and they've got advanced radar tech? [editline]20th October 2015[/editline]
Well, there is the CF-205. [t]http://i.imgur.com/4Olf0Sn.jpg[/t] Boeing also has a couple options.
I can't find any info on the CF-205.
On the note of the f-35, with our economy how it is, we cannot afford the minimum quoted number of 65 without throwing even more money at the project.
Oh dear... Canada pulls out of F-35, probably either kills the project (as Britain will no longer be able to afford the higher unit price, then it cascades through all the other buyers) or makes the US very, very broke (as the US takes up the slack to keep the project running).
I can't find any info on the CF-205.
Sorry. CF-105. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Canada_CF-105_Arrow A little thing we designed about 60 years ago that the States got so pissy about because of how well it performed in comparison to their own aircraft they pushed us to scrap the project. A lot of people are still bitter over it and the PM at the time took his remarks on it to the grave. There's been a few reviews into the viability (it's an old design these days, so the cost of retooling and initial manufacturing is where things can get really expensive) about restarting it and the last one that was two or so years ago showed that with an upgrade to the avionics it was still capable of performing against other current day fighters. The main issue was that we kept having the F-35 pushed in our fucking face with that massive bill. Logically speaking though the F-22 would be a better solution, just not as Canadian.
I can't find any info on the CF-205.
He must have meant the CF-105, since that is what the image is of. Why he chose to bring that up as a potential replacement is beyond me since its a cancelled 50's aircraft that has many design points based off of a cancelled US plane.
Cancelling the F-35 will give a metric shit tonne of budget for Canada, worthwhile considering the other plans they have in order for the refugee crisis, etc. Why go to the F-35 and just take a late generation fighter like the F-22? Its already a proven and relatively recent design.
Why would Canada need fighter jets ? It's not like USA plans to attack them... or do they.
you seem to have forgotten how close canada is to russia
you seem to have forgotten how close canada is to russia
Well, from one side there is Alaska/USA and Pacific, from other Greenland and Atlantic, and I'm not sure what kind of an offensive could be carried out over the Arctic.
you seem to have forgotten how close canada is to russia
Is this the Cold War? Aside from them occasionally taking to the sea to go after the North Pole they aren't really a threat. We've had more to fear about their ICBM's passing over us on their way to glass over the States.
you seem to have forgotten how close canada is to russia
So annexing Canada by any enemy superpower of the US is an actual strategy? After the rise of ICBMs, long range bombers are hardly a threat, and its not like Russia/etc would missile Canada.

Between the money we will save not blowing up people, and taxing marijuana country wide, it seems we will be rolling in dosh.
I sure wish my country would step away from the F-35. Go Canada.
I wouldn't place much hope on marijuana being legalised.
For whatever reason people have the idea in their heads that it's business as usual and nothing is going to get done; the Liberals have a majority shit is going to start changing.
Marijuana really isn't viewed as politically toxic in Canada as it is in the UK.
I'm not whipping out the bong just yet. Yes he's in and yes he has a majority but I'm not expecting any discussion on the topic for at least a year. As much as we want it there are a few things I understand that take a bigger priority and I'll give him the time for that.
i'm just hoping he doesn't put off a lot of the stuff he's promised till his last year as leverage for reelection
They have a majority, I can't imagine they are just going to sit on their hands with that much power.
Why go to the F-35 and just take a late generation fighter like the F-22? While you guys may find a replacement for the Hornet that will be half decent, you will not find one that comes close to the F-35.

[editline]20th October 2015[/editline]
you seem to have forgotten how close canada is to russia
Lets get real, if Russia all out attacked Canada, these few dozen F-35s Canada might afford wouldn't last a day. Most of them probably wouldn't ever get to take off. [editline]20th October 2015[/editline] And you don't need the latest gen jet for airspace harassment/dickwaving needs.
I'm confused, why do Canada or the UK need super high tech stealth strike capable jets? Seems like the dickwaving kind of defense, unless Canada secretly plans on invading a country in the near future.
