Why the hype every time anyway? Half Life is a pretty good game but not anything I would really strive to see sequel of. I wouldn't mind if Valve went for something completely new, instead.
It's perhaps much less impressive now that the graphics are aging and tons of innovative features have become industry standard, but when HL2 came out it was absolutely stunning in many ways. Now people are hoping Valve can one-up that with the next installment since it's taking its sweet time and is a obviously ambitious project.

Episode 3 is already announced. Everyone already knows about it. It's still possible it will be shown.
Wait, people, remember how they said more or less the same thing in 2010 and then they announced Portal 2 by surprise on Sony's conference? :v: Still, I think they'll most likely showcase CS:GO and Portal 2's level editor thingy if they actually go there, and just that
Lets keep optimistic... EP3 is no new project, it has been in development for a while right guys right
What the fuck is the big hype with Episode 3 I would prefer just Half Life 3 instead of a short little Episode.
Portal 2, imo, was decent but no-where near GOTY material, but that isn't the point of the thread. I think Valve should, at the very least, let us know they're working on something. Anything at this point would be nice, we've not heard of EP3/HL3, whatever you want to call it, for 5 entire years. Now, I can understand why they'd want to create suspense over it, but at this point, it's been going on so long, people are losing interest, I know i am.
They let us know they were working on Ep3 last week with that ricochet 2 thing, did they not?
I give up on valve, they seem to be more interested in shitty free to play games now.
Why must Valve play with my emotions like TOYS
Why the hype every time anyway? Half Life is a pretty good game but not anything I would really strive to see sequel of.
"No EP3 at E3" made me hope it'd just skip ahead to HL3 like everyone said.
"Valve has confirmed that it will not be announcing any new projects at this year's E3."
During the first 2years after episode two, I was waiting anxiously for news that relates to the next installment of the series( episodic content meant smaller games in a more quicker pace), during the 3rd year I realised that it would be a lot better to just forget about the game and so I did. I read up any news regarding the game every 8months or so. The way fans freak out about no news makes me think that valve does have some pretty shit fans indeed. Don't get me wrong, I love half-life games as much as the next guy, I started playing the first half-life when I was around 6-7 or 8, can't remember properly, then proceeded to play multiplayer for fucking ages, read rumours about hl2, saw news about it when they came. But I waited it all out, I fucking learned to do that, my brother did too. And that is fucking paying off even today, ON EVERY FUCKING UNRELEASED AWAITED GAME. Like I said, I read up news once in like 7-8 months, or more often if there's a lot of info going around, that's it. Did the same thing with diablo3, everyone was waiting for so long and for me? For me it felt like nothing waiting for the game because I didn't keep in mind every fucking day that the game is being made and blablabla. Where I am getting at is that fans of the fucking series need to learn to shut the fuck up and wait it out instead of whining on any fucking internet forum and complaining in every way possible. Fucking hell what a bunch of babies.
The only reason that this could be bad is because everyone's expectations are now much too high, and it won't live up to it.
I still have hope in my groin that they will release HL3 with CS:GO.
Better get ready for my crowbar.
In some ways i would be happier if they said hl3 will never be made, then i would keep building my hopes up for them to be deflated. i mean, 5 years is a long time to hang on for.
L4D2 EP1
The longer it takes, the more i expect from HL3 once its announced
EP3 is tiptoeing the line of "too hyped". If it crosses that line a lot of respect for valve would go out the window because they failed to deliver a quality product.

Something everybody seems to forget is that after the insane popularity that came with the Portal 2 ARG, it's more than likely that's what they'll do with the next HL game, which i for one am hoping for. Give it a November/December start to lead into 2013, no problems for anybody.
Maybe they'll do like Blizzard did with Diablo 3's release date? Everyone expected the date to be announced at a Blizz event, they said no, crushed hopes. Turns out they announced the date right BEFORE the event, making it a really good surprise. Another thing is that E3 isn't their only shot this year, they could very well announce something before the end of the year.
its valve's greatest franchise of all time and valve is my most favorite company of all time do the math
I am pretty sure more people know CSS and maybe even Portal than Half Life.
and watch L4D3
Murder. Rape. Genocide. Incest. Those are the things that come to my mind when I even glimpse at the probabilities for L4D3 to exist.

Valve has to get their games right the first time, which is why none of their games (that i know of) have been the same as the first information revealed about them. I don't like waiting either, but if it means an awesome game i'm fine with it.

Yes, we can expect something. No, the Half Life series is not going to die like this.
Their source is based off another website referencing someone's email. That is not a legitimate source at all. And even if it were true, why could Gabe say they are announcing anything? It's a surprise for a reason!
Very good, but, as we all know, Valve has spent put a lot of resources for a lot of games and projects. Ever since HL2 and the episodes we have TF2 with four thousand and four hundred updates, css csgo, l4d 1&2, updates for them too, portal2, steam workshop for portal2 (and skyrim) not to mention the high-end Steam software. And most notably Dota2 which is influenced by all of this. I wouldn't be surprised if there will be a lot of cosmetic, dollar a pop adds to your heroes. Valve is probably tell us what the "twist" is all about in Dota2 at E3. I'm very skeptical because I never liked what TF2 got in terms of new items except for Valve-created items and only a handful of exceptional community creations.
But Ep. 3/HL3 isn't a new project. It's 6 years old now.
