Why are people making assumptions one way or another. Valve is famous for vague answers anyway. So jumping on it and viewing it one way or another is just silly. Some of you will always say "No don't be stupid they aren't announcing it" and others will say "No don't be stupid of course they're announcing it look at this vague quote".
It'll come out eventually. It's not overhyped. It becomes overhyped for like a week at a time when someone finds another vague quote or obviously marketable tweet.
But Ep. 3/HL3 isn't a new project. It's 6 years old now.
said that on page 3
They are seriously making it worst for themselves. If they release episode 3 and it's short like episode 1 & 2 then people will be pissed it took them 5 or so years to make something so short. They are also making it worst because people are expecting A LOT more while others are losing or already lost all interest. I know I'll be excited if it gets announced and released but I would be just as excited as I am for gta 5 or something like that.
I never got hyped about any Valve release. Yes, I look forward to most games they put out, but EP3/HL3 will come when it's done and I have no problem waiting. As people have said there was 5 years between HL1 and 2, with a few expansions in between. Same thing here. It could be another 4 years and I wouldn't mind as long as it's up to Valve's standards.
People mention this idea so often because it is their true fantasy, to wake up one day and BAM, HL3 is on steam.
No, I just think it would be brilliant to one day wake up and a top studio AAA game from nobody has heard about in previews or was ever announced, find its way on the shelf.
I'm not a fan of Halo, but what people woke up and found Halo 4 on the shelves of stores, a higihly anticipated game, before it was ever announced (I know it was announced, hypothetical here)?
It'd be interesting to see and experience a top quality AAA game like HL3, in a mindset that is entirely devoid of reviews, previews, screenshots, etc. Hell even the box could be nothing but a simple logo and legal jargon to confirm that it is, infact, half-life 3. See who jumps the ship and immediately buys it, see who waits to see if theres any previews or reviews of it, etc. Maybe they could even do a weird teir thing, where the sooner you get it the better on Steam (or something), and it might have a timer inside the actual box.
I dunno, I think it would be neat :v: Also because you'd literally have no hype for the game's release, since it was never offically announced. I could just see Valve hypothetically trying this out, since they are rich as balls and this kind of market experimentation is something they might do.
No, Valve will announce something. They Will.
I have reached stage 1, Denial
The fact that the hype has reached an insane level is completely the fault of the community. And if HL3 does come out, there are going to be people who say it is a disappointment.
This is what denial sounds like.
I don't expect it to show, but I'm not going to take the "IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN" stance or the "It's not happening, quit hoping and quit expecting" stance. If it happens, it happens. Realistically, I'm assuming most of the people on this site (hell, the internet in general) have better things to hype about/wait for.
After all this time, I'm not interested anymore.
And I know I'm going to get rated dumb the millisecond I post this, but I like the Portal series better than Half-Life now. The ending of Portal 2 made me wish for a sequel, the ending of HL2: EP2 wasn't as sad as everyone says it was. While I'm still interested about what happens after Eli's surprise, I'd rather see what happened to Chell.
Fuck you IGN
Little cockmunchers.
How is it IGN's fault at all?
Ricochet trilogy announced.
1. This isn't a legitimate source.
2. They're basing it off of an email that could have been shopped
3. They've been referring to it as ricochet 2, so they might be announcing "ricochet 2".
4. Do you really think that Gabe would just go ahead and SAY when they were going to release a game that's been hyped up for this many years?
What the fuck is the big hype with Episode 3
I would prefer just Half Life 3 instead of a short little Episode.
Obviously people waited 5 years for a 3 hour singleplayer campagin :downs:
Episode 3 is just a title,it doesn't mean anything anymore after it took more than 3 years to develop

Did you even read the article? Gabe himself said nothing about EP3, instead he just said "new projects".
And how does everyone know the source is an email? I can't seem to find it.
During the first 2years after episode two, I was waiting anxiously for news that relates to the next installment of the series( episodic content meant smaller games in a more quicker pace), during the 3rd year I realised that it would be a lot better to just forget about the game and so I did. I read up any news regarding the game every 8months or so. The way fans freak out about no news makes me think that valve does have some pretty shit fans indeed. Don't get me wrong, I love half-life games as much as the next guy, I started playing the first half-life when I was around 6-7 or 8, can't remember properly, then proceeded to play multiplayer for fucking ages, read rumours about hl2, saw news about it when they came. But I waited it all out, I fucking learned to do that, my brother did too. And that is fucking paying off even today, ON EVERY FUCKING UNRELEASED AWAITED GAME. Like I said, I read up news once in like 7-8 months, or more often if there's a lot of info going around, that's it. Did the same thing with diablo3, everyone was waiting for so long and for me? For me it felt like nothing waiting for the game because I didn't keep in mind every fucking day that the game is being made and blablabla.
Where I am getting at is that fans of the fucking series need to learn to shut the fuck up and wait it out instead of whining on any fucking internet forum and complaining in every way possible. Fucking hell what a bunch of babies.
I love you :v:
that's pretty much exactly me, only I'm here in this thread to discuss it for the hell of it.
it would be a shitty cliche move to have chell somehow forced back into aperture after she had already left it twice (1st time she almost left but got dragged back in to set up for portal 2)
if anything there shouldnt be chell anymore after portal 2
If I remember correctly tons of new test participants became available for use at the end of Portal 2, or the coop thing. So there's potential there. I just hope they wait a bit on it. I'm sure they can pull it off if they started soon, but with their other releases coming up I'd like them to hold off on a Portal 3 if one is ever planned.
Wow, looks like Black Mesa might come out before the next Half-Life game.
Shit I just jinxed it back the other way.
I'm really not sure why anyone's still excited for this damn game.
I gave up hope many years ago.
I'm really not sure why anyone's still excited for this damn game.

I'm not excited because there's no info. I'm just waiting.
Though I will get excited when they release some trailer or info or something.
I know what they be doing. They are saying that so no super dedicated valve fans show up and all the shit fans know about HL2:EP3/HL3 and can wave it in our faces.
it's been 5 years...

Seriously. 5 fucking years? I know they "spend time on their games to make them perfect"... But 5 motherfucking YEARS and it still isn't even being ANNOUNCED...
Little over 6. I posted this in another thread but Half Life Ep3 was announced may 2006, now we have to assume some progress was done like a proto map, some primitive concept art and ideas being thrown around. We also have to assume it all started a little before may. This month is may 2012 obviously so a little over 6 years.
Being optimistic I hope they bundle EP3 with CSGO and DOTA. Even though dota is free, they could bundle some "premium" like in tf2 or something.
IGN hints at Half-Life, Gabe says "No Ep3".
What then? A remake of Half-Life using the source engine? Yep, that's probably it. Black mesa:Source finally got released.
We already have a remake of Half-Life using the source engine.
We already have a remake of Half-Life using the source engine.
No we don't have a remake
The only remake in the making doesn't seem to be coming out any time soon
I don't really care anymore about when x will be announced or when it'll be released. As long as it's finished, has good gameplay, and is more than just a few hours total to complete, I'll be satisfied.
I think Valve will be working on another version of the source engine and have that complete before the next half life is released. A game released on the source engine now would be incredibly outdated compared to Battlefield or Call of Duty. Just about the only thing the source engine has going for it is its physics, excepts that now runs on a very very old version of Havok.
If it wasn't for the great theme and the underground environments they have in Portal, the game would have looked like absolute crap.
Me and a friend theorized that since they can't count to three, they'll skip straight to Half-Life/Episode 4
The longer they wait the higher the expectations become. They're not going to be able to satisfy people's expectations if they wait any longer.
Explain how HL2 came to be the "best PC game ever", with 6 years of production time.
[editline]3rd May 2012[/editline]

In the Coop DLC glados states [sp] she "accidentally" killed every test-subject[/sp].
Sorry man.
cant we all just pretend that atrocious thing never happened
But without HL:S, we wouldn't have Freeman's Mind! That's its one redeeming feature.
I dont understand people that say they don't even care anymore. Way to be melodramatic. You shouldn't expect Valve or any other studio to conform to your time schedule. I for one look forward to the game a ton, but dont get worked up when someone tricks me that its coming out. I will just be grateful when it's here and thats about the extent of it.
