It couldn't have been more different what the hell are you talking about? How are these similar at all?
Given that the rest of that sentence you boldened was 'except it has metro added on' I think he's referring to this vs The whole functionality of the desktop is practically identical. Windows 8 is a slightly upgraded Windows 7 if you don't touch that start button which you almost never need to.
Other than both literally having the same content and doing the exact same thing? Please tell me the last time you had to do something outside of the start menu while you had the start menu open. [editline]14th February 2014[/editline] Type the name of the setting at the start screen.
I've used windows 8 for three months before moving back to windows 7. The search doesn't work reliably enough for it to be as prominent as it is. I frequently can't type in the name of it and press enter, I have to select it and then open it. Breaking flow.
I didn't think operation systems had learning curves.
oh, sweet, you will be the right person to help me with that Arch installation!

I haven't had to do that unless I get multiple results for similar names.

It may be less efficient, but I'm more productive on windows 7 than on 8 in my experience. Not saying it's better, but search was like the best way to use that system and it just wasn't reliable enough to use quickly, even for basic windows functions it would fail to select them.

But whatever, I'm using Classic Shell anyway. Best of both worlds. :v:
My dad and I are currently trying to set up a laptop that came with Windows 8 from the get-go. No wonder it's not selling as much as 7. I've only been with 8 for a little while but I already can't stand it. It's incredibly cumbersome and is stopping me us at every turn from installing 8.1 or even Chrome. Not good for first impressions.
Every single one of these threads is the same. Win 7 and Win 8 fanboys are annoying as fuck holy butts.
oops I right clicked
Oops my eyes must be broken since I can't add/remove icons from that static context menu.
I have W8 on my laptop. It's crazy fast, but I really hate the lack of a Start menu. I use it all the time on my W7 desktop to use my less frequent programs like configuration tools, scanners, etc. Probably will download a program to add the start menu back. Also the sidebars and such are a pain in the ass to activate when using a trackball mouse, so I have to use the touchscreen.
oh, sweet, you will be the right person to help me with that Arch installation!
hey now, Arch is a bad distro, that's not fair :v:
hey now, Arch is a bad distro, that's not fair :v:
Right, Gentoo is the distro to end all distros.

I go into fits every time I use windows 8. So pretentious. Like Microsoft are trying to do a lot more and then fail to impress, it's like "meh" x10. Trying to appeal to the 1 percent of people giving a shit. They did this with XBOXONE for fucks sake. PS4 hasn't done anything to make me feel overwhelmed and yet at the same time, disappointed. That is Microsoft at this moment in time.
Oops my eyes must be broken since I can't add/remove icons from that static context menu.
I have discovered a system that has icons you can place/move to keep within reach and isn't the win8 slate

Microsoft just needs to slow down.

I just don't see any real benefit over windows 7 that 8 could possibly have right now, from a glance it looks more cosmetic to me.
I just don't see any real benefit over windows 7 that 8 could possibly have right now, from a glance it looks more cosmetic to me.
Speed.
I just don't see any real benefit over windows 7 that 8 could possibly have right now, from a glance it looks more cosmetic to me.
I'm not sure why it's still taking people this long to understand if you have windows 7, 8 isn't worth the full price. (It was totally worth it when it came out and they were offering it for $10-20) if you don't have 7 and are looking to upgrade, 8 is the better choice of the 2 for a number of reasons, provided your system can handle it. if you buy a new computer and it comes with 8, that's neat if you take that computer and install 7 because of a start menu, you're a bigger joke than microsoft's marketing department
Speed.
Besides hybrid boot there isn't any.
Windows 8.1 Enterprise does this on first install It's about time too, given that an average "new" computer user probably won't know what a web browser is and just default to internet explorer. Also Windows 8 can be installed to an external hard drive and ran from any machine you plug it in to, where as 7 and under, you can't at all without some tweaks that will either way fix it to one machine.
I think that has more to do with the fact you're in Europe. There some sort of mandate by the EU that all Windows installs have to give you and option of what browser to use. You don't get that menu in the US, or probably most non-EU nations. [editline]14th February 2014[/editline] Holy crap that ruling was older than I thought. when I had windows 8, I used start 8 because metro was so bad. a month later, I'm back on 7 :v:
