Flight Aborted 392 Feet Before Landing Because Pilot Was Texting
Aren't commercial planes put on autopilot most of the time?
You can't autopilot a landing unfortunately. Landing and takeoff require a lot of attention a computer can't currently give.

Autolands are quite possible and happen frequently in low vis conditions.
I can just imagine someone trying to justify the pilot doing this right now...
Yes at around 1000 feet or while they are in the holding pattern. NOT when they are on their decent and just a football field away from landing. That is a small window when decelerating at that time period. I highly question your ability to judge distances and physical properties of an airliner on approach. 1000 feet is acceptable 300 is too damn close. THE fucking control tower is at least 150 feet tall ... at least... tell me how thats not a close call?
The call for "minimums" is at 200 feet, which is the last possible moment before you can go-around.
Usually that is absolutely terrifying and as the engines go to max throttle and the pilots start climbing out to around 2500 feet or more to restart the approach.
Pilots shouldn't be allowed to have phones in the cockpit at all. They should only have emergency radios to carry with them.
This article is so hostile toward the pilot. He made one mistake in his 13,000 hours of flying and he's branded an idiot? Pilots are people too, and people aren't perfect.
Pure sensationalism. That's what alerts and copilots are for, nobody was going to die because of this.
Because he almost killed hundreds of lives including himself by just texting? They have the right to be hostile toward him.
I thought you weren't aloud to use the mobile network on an aeroplane.
Only during landing and take off, which they wernt doing - because the wheels wernt out :)
