Thanks to matchmaking, you will be put into a group of other players who are just as bad if not worse than you. And while it's not infallible it's pretty accurate.
I wouldn't rely on matchmaking. It's done horribly for me every time I've tried it. A better idea is finding at least one good friend to play alongside. I hated Dota 2, until I started playing with a friend.
maybe they are developing source 2 and hl3 is going to be the first game on the engine? that's what they did with hl2 i think
cmon guys don't shoot down my hopes i'v been waiting years for this!
well what was it
Calling it being Rise of the Triad because it is developed by Interceptor Entertainment and is going to be a 2013 Steam/(GoG?) exclusive.
Dear Oshry your teasing makes you a complete dick
I don't like Dota 2 because it's gameplay just doesn't interest me. I don't see why I should need to justify that.
The main problem I think people such as myself have with it being Dota 2 related news is not that we think Dota 2 is terrible but more just that Dota 2 news is barely news at all now-a-days. Dota 2's been playable for a while, I myself have roughly 20 copies I can do nothing with, it isn't all that exciting anymore.
When did the lot of you start thinking that Valve isn't working on Half-Life 3? I have no doubt that they've been working on it since Episode 2 released. Sure, money is their main focus, and they wanted to try other things for a while, but Half-Life is their baby. The size of the Half-Life dev team has probably varied over time - sometimes large, sometimes small - but they would never just stop working on their most beloved and anticipated series.
I've been thinking about it a long time, and I am almost positive that it is taking so long because they decided (probably about a year after Episode 2 came out) that they should make the next Half-Life game on a new engine and blow us away. They are going to premier Source 2 with a Half-Life 3 tech demo, just like they did with Half-Life 2 back in 2003.
That would be amazing.
Since Valve hasn't said anything about HL3 or EP3, I'm simply inclined to believe it doesn't exist. Until it gets released, there's nothing to suggest that they're even working on it.

Theres nothing to suggest they arent working on it.
I know some people think Dota 2 stole Valve's attention away from Team Fortress 2. As if a 5 year old game still needs to be tended to.
yes, it does.
Will people stop posting that damn player count? I've seen at least 5 times now in this thread.

When was the last time Valve acknowledged Half-Life?
Don't forgot that they have been porting Source to Linux.
That might have taken quite a bit of work.

TF2 still gets updated, a lot. In fact it's probably one of the oldest games that receives so much content that isn't an MMO.

They get constantly asked about it, they always deny any sort of information.
They are aware of the fucking fact that people want a new Half Life game.
Gabe always says that they aren't ready to show anything, the time has not come yet.
They said in an older interview they want to make the new Half Life more scarier, they aren't done with Freeman yet and so on.
They are experimenting a lot, like with all of the games. It doesn't always work out alright.
Some ideas get scrapped, maybe they made mistakes during development and needed to rethink some things. Who knows. Just remember how much went wrong with Half Life 2.
They even made a 3 month break during the development of Portal 2, because it was lacking something.
They didn't work on Portal 2 for 3 months, just because they needed another idea.
I can imagine it being scary since those things(how are they called again) scared the crap out of me.
The noise and the shape....

You can't show what you don't have. And an older interview only further suggests that they've long since worked on HL.
Why limit their experimentation to Half-Life? They have TF2, CS:GO, DOTA2, and now the Oculus Rift to experiment with, and none of those have anything to do with Half-Life.
I think Valve just doesn't want to work on Half-Life anymore.
Should I bother completing half-life 2 finally?
I never got why it was so well-received. Half-life 1 was amazing for it's time but HL2 was always so linear and same-y.
steam profile
Half-Life 2
62.6 hrs on record
" I bother completing half-life 2 finally?"
"HL2
linear and same-y."

They, of course, experiment with every other game they develop. Like Portal 2, Dota 2 and so on.
Especially Portal 2, since it was the last big SP game that came out. They don't limit it to Half Life, they are just able to do different things with Half Life, because
it's their main game series that will have the biggest impact on the fans. They NEED to experiment a lot to deliver
yet again a masterpiece with it.
They deny everything because they don't have anything to show.
Why don't you get it? Gabe even announced some time ago, that they
won't announce games anymore that aren't ready to be shown.
They want to prevent mistakes they have made with Episode 2 and Portal 2.

Oh yeah right, that's why they have made concept arts for Episode 3, forgetting files with the name ep3
in its name in Source SDKs, working on a new engine that delivers new ways to develop their games, so as the next Half Life title.
Holy conjecture, batman.
I kinda hope Ep3 never comes just to see how long it takes people to stop talking about it.

It will never happen. It's a never ending cycle. If there is nothing to hype about, fans and gaming websites will create something and in the end get disappointed and blame Valve for it.

When the last stars burn out, the people still alive will all be saying one thing, THIS is the year episode 3 comes out.

Even though the community is largely to blame, it is somewhat Valves fault. They should at least give us something, they say they don't want us following their twists and turns but honestly I couldn't care less, it would be much better than being left in free fall about the series and leaving the community to feed off itself for its Half Life needs.
When was the last time Valve acknowledged Half-Life?
They didnt acknowledge TF2 for like 6 years and then it popped up one day.
[editline]30th March 2013[/editline]
There is NOTHING to suggest they arent working on Episode 3.

I just don't want to let the dubious existence of 1 game have control over my life.

I can see you have brought very valuable information to this thread.
So what did Valve show?

Laidlaw : If I knew anything about this I would not be allowed to comment of course. But since I don't know anything, I can say that much.
