You people get hyped far too much over the smallest provocation. It's not Episode 3, go home everyone, nothing to see here.
Of course they won't! They'll demonstrate it with Valve's flagship title, Ricochet 2.
I actually believe Ricochet 2* is going to be Source 2's launch title. [sp]* includes free bonus game: Half-Life 3[/sp]
its understandable how every1 likes dota2 and how big it is for people but nobody gives a flying fuck about it they really need to stop fucking around with the moba scene and actually do what they're critically acclaimed for you know the half life series
I really dont care about how much time they take to finish HL3 or whatever Half Life game comes next, as long as it comes. Hopefully, it will blow our minds just like its predecessors.

[editline]29th March 2013[/editline] Besides, the team working on Dota probably wouldn't be too involved in HL3 considering Valve's unorthodox work ecosystem.
The next generation of hat technology.
3D printed hats?
Should I bother completing half-life 2 finally? I never got why it was so well-received. Half-life 1 was amazing for it's time but HL2 was always so linear and same-y.
Yeah I knew it, it had to be Source 2
its understandable how every1 likes dota2 and how big it is for people but nobody gives a flying fuck about it
Correction : YOU don't give a flying fuck about it. Look at the Steam player stats. Dota 2 is far far ahead of everything else
Correction : YOU don't give a flying fuck about it. Look at the Steam player stats. Dota 2 is far far ahead of everything else
Because it's a MOBA, it's a unique type of game-genre, and to be fair, there is only like 3 popular ones that I know of, DoTA2, LoL and HoN (again these are the only ones I pretty much know).

This is the only uploaded video from GDC 2013. It's kinda fucking neat.

Back in '04, it had the most advanced graphics and physics engine out of everything else. Gameplay was really enhanced by them, the story and theme behind it was and still is great... Basically, just like HL1 was amazing for its time, HL2 was amazing for its time aswell.
I wouldn't say no to a Left 4 Dead 3 if they've tweaked the mechanics, making it less of an escape campaign and more of a sort of survival game.

The thing about HL3 is that I just don't see how they're gonna make it groundbreaking for this generation of games. Every single Half Life game had something entirely unique that made them milestone works in the gaming industry, hell, to this day we still use assets from Half Life 2. With HL3 they would have to do something entirely amazing and new to open new horizons for the entire industry like everyone wants it to be, to live in the tradition of the franchise, hence why I think they've been working so much on VR hardware, I think that's the next step for them.
it's a unique type of game-genre,
Don't the terms "unique" and "genre" literally contradict eachother
Because it's a MOBA, it's a unique type of game-genre, and to be fair, there is only like 3 popular ones that I know of, DoTA2, LoL and HoN (again these are the only ones I pretty much know).
MOBA doesn't restrict itself to games like Dota. Awesomenauts and Smite are both MOBAs as well. It's all about the map layout and the objectives.
its understandable how every1 likes dota2 and how big it is for people but nobody gives a flying fuck about it they really need to stop fucking around with the moba scene and actually do what they're critically acclaimed for you know the half life series
"Let's stop using the team we got specially for Dota 2, despite having a very large and growing community behind it, so that we can work on a game we have been working on since '07, that has its own team, because a few people don't care about it" While I actually wouldn't care about a Dota 2 presentation at an event, I think it would be awfully retarded to drop it in favour of even the main series, especially with such a huge community. Like, I don't think you understand how deep Dota 2 goes already. There are tournaments going on almost every day of the week, with cash prizes enough to buy a new car, excluding The Internationals that are worth a million for first place and 250.000$ for runner up. The game has reached the 300.000+ mark of players and keeps on rising while in beta, and it has its own development team taking care of it. It also probably generates enough money to fund Valve and even fund third party modellers that make items for it. It pisses me off that people can't fucking wait until they are done with HL3 and keep whining and complaining and saying they should drop everything in favour of it.
Fucking finally. Day of Defeat 2!
understand that Half Life 3 will never live up to your expectations and it's been overyhyped to hell and back, it will never satisfy you. It's the DNF effect. You're expecting Valve to re-invent shooters and innovate the industry again. They won't do it. You'll never be pleased. That's why Half Life 3 is never coming out. They can't just release another shooter. They know they'll be critically panned. Valve didn't kill Half Life. You did.
I wouldn't say no to a Left 4 Dead 3 if they've tweaked the mechanics, making it less of an escape campaign and more of a sort of survival game.
Keep dreaming... I'd rather they didn't even go near Left 4 Dead 3, basically because they would have to: A- find something that makes it unique and different from the last 2, so you don't look at it and say "its what L4D2 is to L4D1" B- completely change its gameplay, althought I think that would end up in people saying it isn't L4D anymore Although, I feel like my thoughts about it are biased. I got bored really fast of L4D1, and L4D2 was nothing but a flash. As you said, its basically an escape campaign, making it extremely boring.
Don't the terms "unique" and "genre" literally contradict eachother
It does, I'm just being retarded. But you get what I mean.
Don't the terms "unique" and "genre" literally contradict eachother
I wouldn't think so, a unique game can define a new genre, but MOBA isn't unique anymore.

People hype it to hell and back, but for HL3 to live up to the hype, it needs to have serious guns, something I doubt it can get nowadays. It was easy back in '04. It made the technological leap on its own together with a few more titles in a few more aspects. Nowadays? Where can you improve enough to make people cry over everything being perfect? Graphics maybe? I don't see anything else, but then again, I'm no expert on engine technologies and what we still haven't been able to do with them. Look at Crysis. Pretty graphics right? What else does it have?
As said before, it will most likely be demonstrating new Source 2 tech with Half Life 3(True DMM please)
