I hope Source 2 supports much larger maps, that would be amazing.
If it had a system of chunks like most open-world games do, it could in theory make load times somewhat shorter (if not seamless) and support even larger levels, opening the engine up for the potential creation of open-world games in Source 2.
So much hate for Dota 2. Before I played it I had similar feelings; complete and total apathy towards the whole genre. But I think deciding to play it was one of the better decisions I made as far as gaming goes. Honestly one of the most fun games I've ever played, and with unparalleled replayability.
I am looking forward to what Valve is showing. (Hopefully Source 2!)
understand that Half Life 3 will never live up to your expectations and it's been overyhyped to hell and back, it will never satisfy you. It's the DNF effect. You're expecting Valve to re-invent shooters and innovate the industry again. They won't do it. You'll never be pleased. That's why Half Life 3 is never coming out. They can't just release another shooter. They know they'll be critically panned. Valve didn't kill Half Life. You did.
No, Valve killed it. They've forgotten how to innovate and that's why HL3 will never come out. Enjoy sequels to mods and more coop zombie games everyone

I'll give them that. They do tend to have very shitty elitistic communities that bite your head off for doing a mistake, but something tells me its also their ignorance from not knowing how to play the game or even have any idea of what to do in it. Rage and idiocy aside, its probably one of the best multiplayer games I've played.
They'll probably do the same thing they did with Half-Life 2: showcase the new engine using Half Life 3 as it's model.
These 2 posts sum it up pretty nicely aswell. People hype it to hell and back, but for HL3 to live up to the hype, it needs to have serious guns, something I doubt it can get nowadays. It was easy back in '04. It made the technological leap on its own together with a few more titles in a few more aspects. Nowadays? Where can you improve enough to make people cry over everything being perfect? Graphics maybe? I don't see anything else, but then again, I'm no expert on engine technologies and what we still haven't been able to do with them. Look at Crysis. Pretty graphics right? What else does it have?
The second and third ones were lackluster, but the first Crysis and Crysis: Warhead had some great gameplay and sound design.

Fortunately I've found my way into a reallly friendly bunch of people and we have a great time. It's understandable that it's not nearly as fun unless you're lucky enough to find people, but still, the game itself is really excellent.
Don't the terms "unique" and "genre" literally contradict eachother
Just because something is currently unique doesn't mean it doesn't fit into some kind of category.
This is pretty old, but:
These are the talks that Valve employees will be participating in in late March. Anything related to Dota is boring now, I don't give the slightest shit about Dota at this point
To be honest, I doubt they will talk about DOTA 2 as a game with 300,000 players is barely not released.
There's also this and MGSV.
UE4 is my favourite new game engine so far. It's amazing. This was run on a 680.
I think we all know for certain that it's not Half Life 3.
I wouldn't mind a brand new IP from Valve.
Ricochet 2 confirmed
Any true Half Life fan isn't expecting Valve to create vast technological advances and revolutionize the way FPS's are played, we just want the next Half Life installment. Valve has always made good decisions about Half Life and I trust them. They know what they're doing. Anyone expecting something different can only blame themselves. The difference between Valve and the DNF drama is that Valve has stayed quiet for the exact reason as to not create hype. The DNF developers released media and trailers to create hype way before the game was near ready to be released.
Staying totally silent for years has kind of an adverse effect on reducing hype
They haven't been totally silent, they've said they've got nothing to show at this time several times.
I want to believe.
I wish we had some more Portal 2 DLC
Didn't the last Co-op DLC open up for the possibility of more DLC Or am I imagining things again
Didn't the last Co-op DLC open up for the possibility of more DLC Or am I imagining things again
Definitely. I mean, it definitely opened more possibilities.
i don't expect the gameplay to be much different, i want half-life 3 for the story
bullshit Half Life 2 is one of the top 10 greatest games ever made. I won't dispute that. It's fucking great. It has a mediocre lackluster generic aleens invade storyline. However, it has an incredible atmosphere. I feel oppressed in City 17. Without saying a word, I know some omnipotent presence is enslaving us. It's atmospheric, but not a compelling narrative.
The second and third ones were lackluster, but the first Crysis and Crysis: Warhead had some great gameplay and sound design.
The third one had a pretty nice story and the gameplay surpassed the first by miles.
Steam confirmed for PS4.
HL3 will be PS4 exclusive!
The second and third ones were lackluster, but the first Crysis and Crysis: Warhead had some great gameplay and sound design.
True, but the later releases got stale and unimpressive in everything but graphics. [editline]29th March 2013[/editline]
The European market is the biggest market for Dota2 iirc.
By european you mean russian right? Just came from a game on the EU West server. I was the only non-russian player there. The only time someone spoke english was the shitty ursa on my team to call me slow. (fuck you, damn right I'm slow, I don't have your moving speed you idiot) It's impressive how there is like almost no one who can speak english on the EU servers. And thats EUWest! If it was EUEast, I bet there would be no europeans whatsoever and only russians. (see what the community makes to the players and the game? saddly, this is only the thin tip of the iceberg)
ffs dota 2 is so gay and stupid why won't they just finish half life then make nerd games
Just because you don't like the game does not mean its bad. Unless this is not serious. [editline]29th March 2013[/editline]
The only people I see pumped for the full release of dota 2 are sweaty nerds who attend those ridiculous e-sport shows how hilarious
Stop being fucking immature and also stop using terms like "nerd" and "gay". This is not how you describe something. I understand why people hates Mobas due to their horrible communities, but that is really not the fault of the game. It's the fault of the community. If you can ignore elitists or find a party of people (or friends) to play with, it easily becomes a enjoyable experience. Although, Now that i looked at these, I'm pretty sure the guy was only joking. Sorry if I failed to realize this earlier.
I can agree, the premises for the half-life story are pretty generic. However, it's incredibly well executed with interesting characters, good writing and narrative that shifts in service of the gameplay, and that's what makes the experience great.
