Any true Half Life fan isn't expecting Valve to create vast technological advances and revolutionize the way FPS's are played, we just want the next Half Life installment. Valve has always made good decisions about Half Life and I trust them. They know what they're doing. Anyone expecting something different can only blame themselves. The difference between Valve and the DNF drama is that Valve has stayed quiet for the exact reason as to not create hype. The DNF developers released media and trailers to create hype way before the game was near ready to be released.
i don't think valve knows what they're doing
UE4 is my favourite new game engine so far. It's amazing. This was run on a 680.
But what processor? That's usually what concerns me more as I'm looking forward to engines being less processor tied.
The second and third ones were lackluster, but the first Crysis and Crysis: Warhead had some great gameplay and sound design.
I finished 3 recently. One of my top games of the year. [editline]29th March 2013[/editline]
But what processor? That's usually what concerns me more as I'm looking forward to engines being less processor tied.
It's likely just a 3770k or something basic.
The only people I see pumped for the full release of dota 2 are sweaty nerds who attend those ridiculous e-sport shows how hilarious
are you really in a position to be calling others sweaty nerds on the internet? why are you acting so superior?
I finished 3 recently. One of my top games of the year. [editline]29th March 2013[/editline] It's likely just a 3770k or something basic.
I know many people that wouldn't call a 3770k "just a", because I am the only one with one that I know of in this area.
understand that Half Life 3 will never live up to your expectations and it's been overyhyped to hell and back, it will never satisfy you. It's the DNF effect. You're expecting Valve to re-invent shooters and innovate the industry again. They won't do it. You'll never be pleased. That's why Half Life 3 is never coming out. They can't just release another shooter. They know they'll be critically panned. Valve didn't kill Half Life. You did.
No, I just want to see the plot wrapped up. I wouldn't even mind if they used the same engine they used in Episode 2, just give me a conclusion.
I'd like to see some new IP. I don't even give a shit about Half-Life anymore.
ffs dota 2 is so gay and stupid why won't they just finish half life then make nerd games
Ahahaha the amount of agree ratings in this post, shows how many incapable "stupid gaymers" we have around here. Also how is dota2 any more of a nerd game than half-life which translates to a whole variety of multiplayer games too?
But what processor? That's usually what concerns me more as I'm looking forward to engines being less processor tied.
since when were today's engines incredibly processor tied in the first place? they're so reliant on the gpu that you might as well just cut down a poptart to size and mount it in the cpu socket.
Am I the only person who's not psyched for HL3 or EP3 or whatever any more? At this point, once it's announced I'll just say "okay, finally" and that's it. I don't think it'll be bad or anything, I just am so unhyped after the wait.
I don't think anyone has pointed this out yet but, notice Notch isn't at GDC. [sp]He's not a real Game Developer[/sp]
Notch is holographic then? or perhaps a robot?
Ahahaha the amount of agree ratings in this post, shows how many incapable "stupid gaymers" we have around here.
-snip-
He is at GDC. Sorry to disappoint you!

I love Half Life 2 and one, I think they're great games, but at this rate they've overhyped it to hell and back. I'll definitely play if it ever gets made but I'm not like a rabid Valve fan so I haven't been counting down the days. Don't misinterpet my words Valve are a great dev team but this has been ridicilous.

The fans have overhyped it - this article just shows it. Valve announces something at GDC and everyone jumps to HL3. Valve had nothing to do with the hype.
I love Dota 2 to death so I'm psyched for whatever it is they're saying.
The thing about HL3 is that I just don't see how they're gonna make it groundbreaking for this generation of games. Every single Half Life game had something entirely unique that made them milestone works in the gaming industry, hell, to this day we still use assets from Half Life 2. With HL3 they would have to do something entirely amazing and new to open new horizons for the entire industry like everyone wants it to be, to live in the tradition of the franchise, hence why I think they've been working so much on VR hardware, I think that's the next step for them.
The thing is, everything I've ever seen about VR makes it look like it'd feel really unnatural to play; looking around is okay, but movement is going to require independent controls, so you're either sitting at you keyboard with a fancy headset on, or you use a console-style controller. Neither of those sound terribly good to me, and it'd really cut into my ability to enjoy the game.

Don't get me wrong I'm cool with that game and lots of people enjoy it, but it's a shame that Valve is focusing so much on that title when they have an even more impressive library of games that they can be working on.

It's a joke for fucks sake.
These 2 posts sum it up pretty nicely aswell. People hype it to hell and back, but for HL3 to live up to the hype, it needs to have serious guns, something I doubt it can get nowadays. It was easy back in '04. It made the technological leap on its own together with a few more titles in a few more aspects. Nowadays? Where can you improve enough to make people cry over everything being perfect? Graphics maybe? I don't see anything else, but then again, I'm no expert on engine technologies and what we still haven't been able to do with them. Look at Crysis. Pretty graphics right? What else does it have?
Go back and play Crysis, now that you can run it at 30+ FPS, you will realize it's a brilliant game, it's got awesome tactical elements to it, Some fairly good gunplay, and a cool storyline / locale.
Hmmm Probably not Half Life 3 but probably not Dota 2 either.
Hypetrain is delayed for now, everyone can go home now.
Whatever it is, it will be interesting. Except if it's something to do with DOTA2.
It's probably more VR bullcrap
Not Valve killed Half Life 3. You did.
Fucked up gaming journalism did. Making an elephant out of every fly. Posting made up stories, hyping every fucking thing to swim in ad money.
It would appear to be something related to the Rise of the Triad remake.
It would appear to be something related to the Rise of the Triad remake.
Their website says it's on Unreal Engine 3. I doubt they'd switch engines with that much work put into it, or that Valve would be making a big deal about helping a company on a game not on Source.
Maybe it's an RTS. Valve innovates by always making its newest game better in every way than an older one. EP1 and 2 were massively improved over HL2, L4D2 was much better than EP2, Portal 2 was much better than L4D2, and so on. With Alien Swarm, I imagine they were testing the water to see how well they could make a top-down game with Source. Then Dota 2 is a massive improvement over that, again. Dota 2 seems to be built from the ground up to basically be a Warcraft 3 clone without the other Warcraft elements like base building and resources. What if the next Valve game is an RTS? Please Valve, make an RTS.
