No they did not. [editline]29th March 2013[/editline] They said they are moving away from the Episodic model but that is after Episode 3.
I made a post about this a bit ago:
So I dunno if this the right thread or w/e, but while looking through my Steam games list, I was looking at how sequels and stuff were organized in the list and noticed something: Then I realized [SUB](holy shit did I realize)[/SUB] Alphabetically, Three comes between One and Two if alphabetically sorted Episode 3 is between one and two
It's probably Half Life 3
I want them to hire the people that made this and make a new puzzle game
Fuck that, I just want Ep3. They know I want it, and they continue to fuck with me..
Fuck that, I just want Ep3. They know I want it, and they continue to fuck with me..
The most Valve has done is say...nothing. Blame hypetrains and people with even the smallest amount of following saying complete bullshit and trying to get people hyped for nothing.
Personally I wish they didn't do the whole Episodic thing. Gives me bad memories of another FPS that used the Source engine that did the same thing, only to release one episode before being bought out by a publisher that didn't give a quarter of a shit about the IP and gutted them into making phone games instead.
I agree, while it the VR stuff is awesome... I still have ZERO interest in it.
Really? I had figured that you, of all people, would be among the most interested in it.
i want valve to just fuck right off with everything else and make episode three already they already boned themselves hard enough by not just releasing ep3 sooner and inadvertently still created hype by not saying anything at all, not even saying they were working on it for the longest time and would it kill them to bring some employees into the responsibility of managing the mod community again, considering that's been dead for over half a decade now, too and i don't mean that pile of shit called workshop, as if i care about putting hats on my dick the sdk has been broken for years, and apparently even licensees now don't have many people to turn to for help it would be nice to see valve turn back to the things that made them successful in the first place instead of shitting all their time away on franchises no one cares about dota 2 is the only good piece of work they've done in a long time, and it doesn't even tie closely to their main player base

I wish they could just get HL3/HL2:EP:2 out now and then deal with this other stuff [editline]30th March 2013[/editline]
The most Valve has done is say...nothing.
The most Valve has done is say...nothing. In the beginning they showed us concept art, told us a little about the game, and said when they counted on having trailers ready, etc. I think somewhere along the lines they became uncertain about what direction the game would take (around 2010 I would guess), and simply stopped releasing more info until they had something definite.
Still 6 fucking year's and still fucking nothing
Well, they did say that they won't reveal any game too early to prevent mistakes they did with Portal 2 and Episode 2.
No one cares about Dota 2?
give anyone 20 copies of Dota 2 to give to their friends you can guarantee they'll try/play it
People need to realize that this isn't 2004 anymore. Valve isn't just a company that runs on Half Life and mods made for it. And the harsh truth is, even when HL 3 comes out Dota 2 will be their most advertised game, as it's their biggest source of income. Don't get me wrong there WILL be advertising for half life 3 and a lot of fanfare but eventually it will die off, i doubt valve is going to stop pushing Dota 2 any time soon. And in the end, they're still a business, no matter how much people like to think they don't care about money. Either way my money was on a presentation of a new engine or at least a tech demo for it, probably the most reasonable case as it is the GDC.
Why are people acting like Valve working on Dota 2 means they can't work on other games? They're a pretty massive company these days, and they can easily afford multiple development studios.
Why are people acting like Valve working on Dota 2 means they can't work on other games?
Why are people acting like Valve working on Dota 2 means they can't work on other games? They're a pretty massive company these days, and they can easily afford multiple development studios.
But it's Dota 2's fault! It's always Dota 2's fault!
In the end no one here knows shit about whos working on what and what they're doing, it's all just speculations. Everything is most likely something they've "heard" or "assume"
It's your guys' fault you're getting pissed over HL3, they haven't even officially announced it, likely for a reason
I like Dota 2 because Ive never played a MOBA before.
When did the lot of you start thinking that Valve isn't working on Half-Life 3? I have no doubt that they've been working on it since Episode 2 released. Sure, money is their main focus, and they wanted to try other things for a while, but Half-Life is their baby. The size of the Half-Life dev team has probably varied over time - sometimes large, sometimes small - but they would never just stop working on their most beloved and anticipated series. I've been thinking about it a long time, and I am almost positive that it is taking so long because they decided (probably about a year after Episode 2 came out) that they should make the next Half-Life game on a new engine and blow us away. They are going to premier Source 2 with a Half-Life 3 tech demo, just like they did with Half-Life 2 back in 2003.
But it's Dota 2's fault! It's always Dota 2's fault!
I'm actually quite intrigued why so many people hate it. I mean yeah there's the people who hate the community and that's perfectly understandable; Moba communities are horrible in game unless you play with friends. But still, there's a lot of animosity hatred and everything against it. What did it do to you guys to make you hate it so?

As if a 5 year old game still needs to be tended to.

Not a fan of Dota 2 because the way it seemed the one time I played it was you were either bad or good. No middle ground. That's not something I want to play.
Not a fan of Dota 2 because the way it seemed the one time I played it was you were either bad or good. No middle ground. Even if you have played MOBAs before, it's in their nature to re-challenge anyone who picks up a new one. I think its your fault then. Dota 2 has massive amounts of features to help new players and they recently introduced an adventure-ish sort of tutorial. Thanks to matchmaking, you will be put into a group of other players who are just as bad if not worse than you. And while it's not infallible it's pretty accurate.

Funnily enough, I think Steam is the reason there is no Half-Life 3 / Episode 3. If Steam hadn't exploded into the digital distribution platform it is today, Valve would have more reason to work on Half-Life (e.g., money and consumer loyalty, all of which Steam now provides.) But since Steam did explode, Valve no longer has to focus on Half-Life and can freely experiment with other things like CS:GO, DOTA2, L4D2, and now the Oculus Rift.
The most Valve has done is say...nothing. Blame hypetrains and people with even the smallest amount of following saying complete bullshit and trying to get people hyped for nothing.
valve has become really skiddish in releasing anything prior to release, I knew people who wanted to show off their work that's still not publicly shown but got turned down because they were scared of the hypetrain. Felt that even acknowledging what ever is being worked on even in R&D where you're expected to fail most of the time or lack any polish from concept to prototype, the valve fan base would take off and the end result won't be what they expect. I feel you can have two sides to a business, a secret side and a public side. I think the big crowd funded games are a step in the right direction in showing the development steps and valve could do one or two projects that way, it's cathartic to show people your stuff along the way.

As much as I love Half-Life and would want a new one, all of their games are top notch and I love them to death.
