I hope PS4 is a bit more developer-friendly than PS3.
It should be, and it would make porting to PC much easier.
based on the AMD’s A10 APU series
I seriously hope this results in better/more stable console ports.
An x86 CPU should hopefully result in better PC ports, provided the Xbox 720 uses x86 or x64 as well. Also,
Take note that dev kits usually have double the RAM of the final console due to the fact that developers need the extra RAM for debugging tools and other systems. http://www.ubergizmo.com/2012/07/leaked-xbox-720-dev-kit-hints-final-specs/
Which could explain why the article mentions the dev kits "come with either 8GB or 16GB of RAM". I'd say 8GB is a safe bet on what the actual PS4 will use.
I hope they also create better controllers. The current controllers are just horrible compared to the Xbox 360 ones
Holy crap A console with up to date hardware This is gonna be great
You mean like The PS1, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, XBOX, Gamecube, Xbox360, and PS3?
God, it seems like only yesterday it was 2006 and the PS3 was about to be released. Hopefully the PS4 will dominate in the titles category. Won't x86 make it easier to hack and is it going to be able to play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games? They really slacked off when it came to backward compatibility on the PS3
I hope they also create better controllers. The current controllers are just horrible compared to the Xbox 360 ones
It's a classic though.
Wow. Surprisingly, I am actually excited about the next-gen if PS4 is bringing that to the table. Let's hope the next xbox won't lag behind the bar set by Sony. [editline]2nd November 2012[/editline] Also Wii U will be so outgunned if those are the PS4 specs
16 GB ram isn't all that useful and the money could be better spent elsewhere (8 GB better) I just hope they don't cheap out on the graphic cards.
I doubt they will go for power and fancy hardware this time round, if they remember how badly they performed in the first half of the PS3's life.
16 GB ram isn't all that useful and the money could be better spent elsewhere (8 GB better) I just hope they don't cheap out on the graphic cards.
They're using AMD APU's, and some rumor says its crossfire with APU and discrete.
They better put it a reasonable price tag when it comes out or it will be their vary last financial suicide..
I doubt they will go for power and fancy hardware this time round, if they remember how badly they performed in the first half of the PS3's life.
I hope they will, forces the competition to do the same.
Any word on backwards compatibilty with PS3 games, or perhaps even PS2 games? If it offers that for PS3 games only, I might consider it. If it also offers it for PS2 games, I'm getting it.
I wonder if this is going to make porting Console games from the PS3 to PC less of a problem for companies. The main reason most ports are shit, is that developing games on the console is a tad different that doing so on the PC, just because of the specific hardware. If there is going to be such a "hybrid" then the type of development might be more similar, resulting in less crappy ports. Then again, I am no expert in such things. Correct me if I'm wrong, and I might be entirely.
Considering that there probably won't be a Cell processor, I doubt it.
Just because enthusiasts have been unable to make proper emulators, doesn't mean that the company that downright designs & makes the hardware & software can't.
Just because enthusiasts have been unable to make proper emulators, doesn't mean that the company that downright designs & makes the hardware & software can't.
I somehow doubt that they would be able to emulate an entirely different processing structure and still have the power to run the games. Even the PS3 had to include components from the PS2 to play its games.
I think that this should push the technology in games for the next couple of years, all of a sudden games will look a lot better without having to sacrifice as much, Much like the PS2 to PS3 jump. Maybe this console will even have anti-aliasing! And I would love at least PS2 backwards compatibility!
Even 8GB RAM would be pretty unnecessary, but if they did it well they could load a ton of stuff into RAM and after the initial load there would be no loading times. That would be pretty rad.
Even 8GB RAM would be pretty unnecessary, but if they did it well they could load a ton of stuff into RAM and after the initial load there would be no loading times. That would be pretty rad.
Textures permanently loaded into the RAM once the game has been loaded.
First the Wii U, now potentially Orbis, all we need is for Microsoft to announce their crappy 720 device and the cavalcade of Generation 8 will finally begin officially.
I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but if the devkit has 8-16GB of RAM the customer PS4 will have 4-8GB since devkits almost always have twice the RAM for additional debugging tools and stuff.
Let's hope 8 gb, ram is so cheap these days it could be easily done, and it would lessen loading times and such.
Didn't microsoft say the Xbox line has ended a while back? Does this mean there will be no more console wars? Or do they mean they'll just make a new console not called Xbox? Don't rate me dumb you dingus, it was posted here a few months back, I'm not trying to say "xbox sucks" or something, console people are quite touchy
Why would they choose an APU? why not modify the FX series for more bang? Still the Bill of materials is going to be cheaper, Cell processor was expensive, AND expensive to develop for x86 means less shitty ports 16GB of ram means that in the next year my pc will be shitting its pants
I hope they also create better controllers. The current controllers are just horrible compared to the Xbox 360 ones
Uuuh NO! they work insanely well. That's why they've been using them for 18 years now!
I hope they also create better controllers. The current controllers are just horrible compared to the Xbox 360 ones
Yeah I always have to go out and buy the ones that are shaped like 360 controllers. The normal Playstation controllers are so tiny and haven't fit my hands since I was like 11.
I really like the PS3 controllers, but I also like the xbox controllers I don't give a fuck I just prefer the Ps3 controllers looks because it looks symmetrical mostly
I really like the PS3 controllers, but I also like the xbox controllers I don't give a fuck I just prefer the Ps3 controllers looks because it looks symmetrical mostly
I would like the PS4 to have the same controller as all the previous ones. I've gotten so used to it, it has pretty much been the only console-controller I've used if you don't count SNES.
Gamecube controller is best controller
