Why would you cut off your perfectly functional armw for a mechanical one that does the same thing? [editline]aaaa[/editline] iirc it was the formation of scar tissue that would interfere with the implants. Which oddly enough, is quite a real possibility.
Because its cool.
It's just the school that's catholic though, students don't have to be.
I attend a Catholic school, about 70% are atheists and we've even got a couple of Wicca.
Nice of them to lend a hand.
And if the mechanical one works better than the natural one?
If you want to modify a limb to be beyond the normal scope of a human body, you're going to need to modify everything it's connected to. Such as super arms would require super shoulders, connected to a super spine, which would need to be connected to likewise enhanced hips, legs, and feet. Even if you just get a pair of arms that can lift at max two hundred pounds, you're going to need train the rest of your body to match.
And if the mechanical one works better than the natural one?
Still wouldn't be worth as it will be an expensive, cold, hard piece of equipment. Also you wouldn't be able to feel.

I wouldn't even call them educated guesses since there is very little to be educated about, but simply as 1STrandomman mentioned why is brute force the only option when it comes to prosthetics? Just imagine a hand that can turn 360 degrees on its axis (which I think was actually given to a veteran who lost his hand in a blast or something) Plus why do you consider limbs to be the only viable prosthetic?
