Certainly in the beginning, it’s primarily a gaming console. That’s going to be the primary buyer. In all the research we’ve seen, there’ll be tens of millions of buyers in the first year and in the research we do, over 90% of them own an existing console. So I think there’s going to be supply constraints in the beginning, and I think all those purchasers are going to be gamers.
That's certainly optimistic; I'm not even expecting the PS4 to hit those numbers in the first year. Neither system has a genuine 'system seller' yet in my opinion and both current-gen consoles are still getting strong support. I don't think we'll start seeing genuinely massive sales on either platform until early-mid next year when games like inFamous: Second Son and Titanfall show up.

The early adopters for either of them will be primarily gamers, with the hamfisted PR Microsoft showed off I don't see them getting anywhere near 20 million before the end of the year. If anything it has boosted Sony's sales instead.
Microsoft missed the point, when they shifted focus with the 360 it worked because there was already a large consumer base who already owned one. Meaning the new applications they introduced were more wide spread, leading them to believe it was a smashing sucess, which maybe it was.
Focusing an entire advertising campaign on these features is a mistake. Casual gamers and the market that used the features they introduced will not purchase a $500 TV box until they know it's worth it. Why would they given that they already own TVs?

He'd probably rather be working at sony
Xbox One might end up selling LESS than 20 million units on the first year. Or worse, even less than 2 million. Let's take a look at other consoles that barely sold over 15 million units
The Dreamcast only sold 10.5 Million units, the atari jaguar only sold 250,000, the Wii U as of 2013 only sold 6.9 million units. How will XBONE get to 20 million unitx sold. NOT SHIPPED, Sold.
The XBOX 360 have sold 78.2 million while the PS3 75 million. XBONE will have a harder time to acheive such goal.
My prediction is that it would only sell less than 5 million. This is still optimistic view by me.
Wow, He should be the Optimistic rating icon

They're expecting to sell 20 million units within a month and a half when it comes out mid-November?

no silly the year starts when the xbox one is released
I'm sure a lot of clueless relatives will buy them for their nephews/nieces, sons/daughters, grandchildren etc for Christmas. But certainly not 20 million.
They'll have to do a broader roll-out to accomplish that.
Seems like Microsoft forgot to do a internal memo of the failure of Windows RT, and how being cockily optimistic is only gonna backfire.
Surely setting the goals unrealistically high and not reaching them affects shareholders and stocks?
2.4 million by january
im calling it now
if i'm right i expect money

If you're wrong I apply ban?
What the fuck? It took the 360 like 4-5 years before it actually passed 20 mil sales.
20 Mil in one year? What are you smoking Microsoft
A lot more gamers, a lot more of an installed userbase. However, 20 mil is still pushing it.
If you're wrong I apply ban?
and he have's to spend the night with you're avatar by the way wtf is it a Rapist Deer.?
If you're wrong I apply ban?
you have my permission to ban me for 2.4 days upon the 1st of january if it fails to meet this goal

Because everyone already ran around looking to upgrade their Surface RT 360 right?
Whether Microsoft guess is asinine or not, the Surface RT and Xbox One situations are not comparable.
In a year Microsoft will be claiming: our predictions were "a little ahead of customers"
You know Zach, you could just tell me why you think my opinion is stupid. I think its funny that microsoft thinks xbox one's major consumer will be gamers, when all they've done is alienate them since xbox one's announcement.
I think its even MORE hilarious that they expect to ship 20 million consoles within the year. Now that means one of two things. A: Microsoft intends to break 20 million by xbox one's 1 year anniversary (365 days since release.) Show me a console that HAS broken 20 million within its first year because I sure as hell can't think of one. B: Microsoft intends to break 20 million by the end of 2013. Which is even more retardedly unfeasible as a goal.

:v:?
Didn't they estimate to sell a Billion? Was that over the lifetime of the console? How do you expect to get to a Billion when you launch with 5000% less than your goal? Is the launch year the largest amount of sales of that respective console?

Joint = Xbox One
Smoker = Normal gamer
Other smokers: Xbox fanboys
My brother is trying to talk my dad into buying one so he can get his next precious racing game.
I asked him why he wanted this racing game so bad, how is it different than previous ones in the series?
"Cuz it has new maps and cars."
Wow, look at that 60$ DLC.
I'm trying to convince my dad not to be a moron and save 500$ on that garbage, for one racing game.
Given the state of the global economy and the price of the xbone, I doubt they will sell that much, even during the christmas season.

Microsoft pass that shit.
1 billion next-gen consoles total. That's including the Wii U and the PS4 for the next ten years.

Let the rainbows flow to your local Xbox One dealership.
Microsoft is trying way to hard to sound like its still better than the PS4.

What would you have Microsoft do? Say "our product is shit compared to the PS4! Don't buy it!"
I mean, I understand people like the PS4 more (it's definitely a better device if you actually want to game), but I don't know why people are outraged that Microsoft is trying to sell its product.

I didn't mean it like that. I meant more along the lines of they should stop pulling random things out of their ass and using it to sound better when most of it is just exaggerated argle-bargle.
