I for one think Russia is not a crazy war-mongering Genocide supporting bad guy. I think the situation on the ground in syria, and who is really behind all the attacks, is being hidden. Just like it happened with Qaddafi. Consider this: In tripoli; 95% of the town population came out in support of Qaddafi and it is the same story all over Lybia. The issue is that most of the rebels and inciters are either planted, or hopped up on drugs. Qaddafi did not attack his own people, his people loved him. He brought literacy up, provided a house for every single citizen, and brought lybia to become one of the strongest nations in africa. Now a few airstrikes and falsified news reports later, we have killed "the horrible tyrant".....
Seriously this whole fucking thing is a god damn puppet show

Its also the same ploy they did with Saddam, they play on your emotions to make you totally accept what they are telling you. With Saddam they got a Diplomats daughter to pose as an attendant witness to "Saddams forces removing babys from incubators and leaving them on the ground". A complete tug at the heartstrings. Who wouldn't hate his fucking guts after that? Now in syria, some killings happen and everyone points to the leader. Yet Russia is not buying it, just like they didnt buy Lybia. America wants to bomb the shit out of Syria, and Russia is just telling everyone to hold their fucking horses. But because of the spin of western media, they sound like cruel barbarians in doing so.
This is one of the more interesting posts I have ever seen on this forum.
I don't know whether to thank you or slap you.
Good. Maybe this will help prevent an intervention and allow the Syrians to actually fight for themselves and stop the needless bombings.
Or they get over run and slaughtered.
When all these Syrian civilians are murdered by their government, then the Russians can remember the blood of the Syrian people is on their hands as well.

I totally agree with this post. The superpowers are playing politics with a country tearing itself apart. Russia want to maintain arms trade and a base there and the west want Assad out. The violence is sectarian and is happening on both sides.
The news reports coming from western media are very one sided and blame Assad. The news channels like RT are blaming the west.
Assad is very popular in Syria and to suggest his people want him out is crazy. Assad has no control over the militias who want him to stay. This is like Lebanon all over again except this time its Muslims against Muslims.
its all about the new world order brah
gaddafi found out about them and was going to go public
he had to b removed
oh shit soemone just kicked in my dooor! they knowswwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
do you think that, when al-assad is gone, the new syrian government will tell russia to fuck off?
The US has taken apart plenty of Russian-built AA defense systems before, this doesn't really change anything.

Libya didn't have air defenses.

Not nearly as heavy, but they did have light AD. Libya was the Growler's first time in combat.

Well there are many, however I think I can give you a sense of it with some free label media:

and finally a documentary

Honestly, the rest you can do your own research if you really are interested enough to find out and judge for yourself.

also a better shorter one:

I was kinda expecting something serious
The US has taken apart plenty of Russian-built AA defense systems before, this doesn't really change anything.
Because SAMs from the 70's are totally the same as SAMs that went into service in 2003.
When all these Syrian civilians are murdered by their government, then the Russians can remember the blood of the Syrian people is on their hands as well.
Don't think Russia has a history of caring. 20 million innocents were killed by Stalin's goverment during the Second World War and the aftermath. (Also funny how that isn't as well known as the Holocaust, or cared about.)
tl;dr: Russia just wants allies where it can get it.
So basically, if the US helps out this time, it'll be an act of war?
Fuck.

Oh a word I disagree with; disregard everything.
because other countries, like america, don't do this.
Can someone give me a TLDR of the whole situation there

So these people...let's call them Arabs. They're looking at their life and the leadership of their country and saying, "My brother just got killed by these bastards, let's do something about our shitty rights!"
Have you been living under a rock for the past year and a half?
Not really, I just figured there was a bunch of extraneous shit to this conflict I could only find out by reading long news articles which I could not afford with my time at work right now
On the plus side, If missiles do start flying, they should hit the US not Canada, anyone want to move to the moon with me?

You're so clueless it's not even funny. Majority of syrians do not support bashar al-assad. He is a blood thirsty dictator, just like his father, hafez al-assad who is known for the following atrocities and many more:

In countries run by totalitarian governments, you either fuckin love your glorious leader or your body is found in a ditch a week later. Here's a video of celebrations after gaddafi's fall in tripoli:

Yeah, as you can see 95% of the population of the Tripoli is mourning gaddafi's death. :downs:
I can't believe you even mentioned Saddam too. Even though iraq did not have any 'weapons of mass destruction', he was still a tyrant who ran the country with an iron fist. The exact number of deaths attributable to Saddam Hussein may never be known, but estimates range as high as half a million (not including iran and kuwait war casualties). There is evidence of more than 250 mass graves dating to his rule. Here are some highlights of his career:

Get your head out of your ass. The only reason russia is defending Syria is because of their economic and military deals. Also, russia doesn't want another US ally in their backyard which is what's gonna happen if Bashar's regime falls.

>President of Syria is Bashar Assad, an Alawite
>Alawites are only %12 of Syria, but hold most positions in govt.
> Sunnis are all "WTF, Alawites? Why do you get so much power?" and protest/riot
> Assad shoots/tortures/imprisons protestors. Decimates entire cites using the Army.
> Govt. Media says protestors are "terrorists"
> Some protestors/defectors form FSA or Free Syrian Army to protect protests from shootings.
> FSA grows into a nationwide insurgency against Assad.
> America is all like, "we should help the Syrians overthrow Assad" but no solid plan is formed. Saudi Arabia and Qatar begin sending money and weapons to FSA.
>Russia sends troops to its naval base in Syria and more vehicles/supplies to Assad and Iran sends Republican Guards (Quds Force) to assist Assad's army in interrogating/killing FSA.
> Allegedly, Hezbollah sends soldiers across the Lebanon border into Syria to help Assad kill more FSA/protestors.
>Russia vetos intervention stating that they do not support any interventions at all. China also vetos because they're butt buddies with Russia. Russia makes around $4 billion in arms sales annually to Syria. Russia is also worried that an new Syrian gov't would be friendly towards America and hostile to Russia. Russia has a base in Syria. Russia sends helicopters and more ammunition to Assad. Claims the arms deals do not violate law and are contractually obligated.
>Al-Qaeda gets in on the chaos. Bombs Assad's secret police offices in Damascus, sets up IEDs on roadways. Al-Qaeda funnels in personnel from Iraq into Syria to fuck up Assad.
>New Libyan gov't wants to help Syrians. Sends guns via cargo ship. Cargo ship is intercepted by Syrian Navy. Libya sends fighters to help FSA.
>Stalemate. Assad's killing left and right. Syria is a mess with AQ, Libyans, FSA, Assads army, Iranians and Hezbollah running around. Possible genocide because Assad targets cities with lots of Sunnis and avoids areas with Alawites.
>In America, Republicans are pissed and want to bomb Assad. John McCain, a senator, calls for intervention. Syrians hear about this, and have parades where they chant his name. Pres. Obama doesn't make a decision just yet, worried about NATO/Iran/Russia/UN.
> Kofi Annan tries to make a plan for both FSA and Assad to stop the slaughter. Both sides agree to the plan. Nothing happens, however.
> Assads gov't holds a referendum on the constitution. Many Syrians allege vote is rigged.
> Lots of Syrians die.
>France threatens to start a vote in the UN for intervention. Still waiting on that.
>Reminds me a little of 1994 Rwanda.
>Syrians still dying.
