We need more people with hard science background in Congress.
Well, with the exception of neurosurgeons
i wonder what the next big thing will be with democrats in charge
If Republicans Lose the Senate, Bernie Sanders Wins
Sounds like a plan. Let's rock.
Feel the Bern?
Feel the Bern?
Bernie was always "still in this", even it's not for the Oval Office anymore. That's what he was trying to say when he conceded the primary: he and Hillary can both still "win" in this election. More people need to realize that instead of just childishly resenting Hillary forever for getting the DNC nomination. In fact, Bernie might actually be a better fit for - and accomplish more with - a budgeting position anyway, due to finance being a major part of his platform. He can focus more closely on that as well as keep a closer eye on Congress, whereas his attention would be pulled away more if he were president. Now Hillary can handle the executive and foreign relations stuff that come with that position. It's teamwork.
I'm being super-optimistic here, but the potential exists that we could see a dream team lineup happen this election: Democratic President Clinton Budgetlord Bernie Democrat-dominated Senate/possibly House A Republican party that wants to shift towards being socially moderate Liberal SCOTUS appointment Strong pressure for electoral reform from both Trump supporters and every Democrat who's been pissed off over the primaries/election We get the socially-progressive reforms of the Democratic platform (assuming they don't just get dropped in favour of blatant corporate cocksucking the way Trumpets believe is inevitable), Bernie on the prowl in Congress keeping shit in order, and a hell of a lot of support for political reform and against corruption (lobbying and influence peddling being key). If Clinton gets elected with a Democratic-controlled Congress and she's smart, she will compromise to address concerns by the right and help them feel included in the process rather than being "the losing team" who has to sit on the bench and wait for their turn to control things -- which is exactly how both sides have been looking at it this time around.
Well, with the exception of neurosurgeons
neurosurgeons are not hard science background per se, they could come from medicine as their primary. I really hope its like you imagine though, if hillary would just be halfway reasonable to Bernies constituency then yes, that would be great.

This fact alone will bring in all the young voters who are disappointed with Clinton getting the nomination, this dude just pretty much pulled the trigger by saying this
Yeh my understanding is that he'd potentially end up with more power as chair of the senate budget committee than he would have as president, to institute the financial policies that were the crux of his campaign. You may still feel the Bern yet, America. [editline]18th October 2016[/editline]
I've gotta ask, how do these people rile the crowds up against "liberal progression"? It's like saying stuff such as the Civil Rights Act were bad ideas.
Some people think that liberal progressive means uptight PC elitist... Some other people are just bigots.
In the senate race here, we have the Republican incumbent Pat Toomie, and his opposition is Democrat Katie McGinty. The race is very close. Toomie said that McGinty's attacks on him were totally unfounded, and were based on lies. McGinty responded, saying that it's up to the voters to decide the truth. I want to vote Dem, but this is a woman who believes that truth is up to public opinion, and not fact. Really not sure what to do.

Anyone who thinks the truth is up to the public should be shunned. The truth is up to the courts to determine.
neurosurgeons are not hard science background per se, they could come from medicine as their primary.
Medicine is not a hard science?
Well, with the exception of neurosurgeons
You can be adequate or great in your scientific field and still be a complete moron ιn other aspects of life. Scientific background might be a bonus, but any nominee needs to be a decent lawmaker first.

Some other people are just bigots.
Some people have very different ideas of what 'progress' is PS: Pretty convenient to only pick out the positive parts of past progressive movements (eg. the Civil Rights movement) and to ignore the fact that, for example, that huge parts of the 1960s new left were an awful bunch of useless hippies, extremists (communists, black panthers) and so on
Yes please, i know who i will vote for.

Have fun without my vote, Paul Ryan!
Not to be antagonistic, but I just don't get this. You're excited for chairman Sanders, yet you don't want Hillary to be president, even though Bernie'd have a much easier time working to push progressive policies with her at the helm than he would with someone like Trump.
With someone like Jill it'd be like taking candy from an orange baby.
But we already know Jill's not going to win.
But we already know Jill's not going to win.
Doesn't make my point anymore moot, Jill is a natural for Sanders, while Hilary is more or less forced to go along.
Doesn't make my point anymore moot, Jill is a natural for Sanders, while Hilary is more or less forced to go along.
The point isn't who'd be theoretically best for Sanders. If you want Sanders to be able to make any meaningful progress in the Senate, it makes sense that you'd want Hillary to win instead of Trump, as those two are the only candidates who have a chance of winning right now.

His working with the DNC to get them to adopt his policies and trying to get more progressives into the House and Senate were always big parts of his plan.
Budgetlord Bernie
That should totally be the official job title. Makes it sound a lot more exciting, lol.
dream team with a turd sauce on top... hillary clinton. I really hope its like you imagine though, if hillary would just be halfway reasonable to Bernies constituency then yes, that would be great.
Hillary is a pretty huge progressive liberal. There really isn't much to worry about there if you're a Bernie supporter.

Stein is just a flat out bad choice. She panders to conspiracy theorists way too hard and is un knowledgeable about the processes of government
Hillary is a pretty huge progressive liberal. There really isn't much to worry about there if you're a Bernie supporter.
Yeah like I've given a small bit of leeway to people who don't want to elect her on moral grounds but if you're one of those guys that says she's gonna ruin the country you're pulling stuff out of your ass. Even if you take a really cynical view and say she's running out of self-interest and political gain, as a democrat a huge part of that is being able to say that she got popular social and economic reforms passed.
Stein is just a flat out bad choice. She panders to conspiracy theorists way too hard and is un knowledgeable about the processes of government
Whether or not people like John Oliver's commentary, his segment on third party candidates showed some pretty crazy shit about Johnson and Stein that I hadn't seen before.
I can want whoever I want to win instead of Trump, it doesn't have to be realistic.
...I mean, yea, it does have to be realistic. If I wanted to be unrealistic I'd ask for FDR to rise from the grave so I could vote for him. But I'm voting because I actually care what happens to this country. How can you claim to support Bernie's efforts if you're unwilling to contribute to creating the best possible environment in which he can get things done?

If Hilary wins I think she can do good to, but Jill Stein naturally falls in line with Bernie's views.
I am, I believe Jill Stein will create the best environment. Like I said, if you're voting for Jill, you may as well vote for ghost FDR.
That's why I said best possible environment. Like I said, if you're voting for Jill, you may as well vote for ghost FDR.
Unfortunately nobody seemed to get the memo that Ghost FDR is running, so I'll have to stick with Jill for now.
Unfortunately nobody seemed to get the memo that Ghost FDR is running, so I'll have to stick with Jill for now.
Only 2% got the Jill memo...
