If the mind is awake during paralysis, why are there hallucinations?
Your body is asleep but your mind is awake. So the dreams "leak" into the real world.
Don't think closing your eyes helps remove the hallucinations though. You will still "see" everything on your eyelids because it's a dream. See your room and everything in it and whatever shouldn't be in it

Are you sure, I've managed to keep my eyes closed once and I didn't see anything, although I could still hear things walking about.
Reading this while about to go to sleep :suicide:
Luckily I haven't encountered sleep paralysis or something like that in my life.
I don't want it, but I wouldn't be surprised if right after I read all these stories and relates, some shit like that happen to me in a short period of time (might not happen this night, but a month after, my mind tends to save these weird informations then use it while I'm sleeping after a considerable time).
But I'm already preparing my mind to keep calm if something "bad" happens while I'm having one of these mind states, whatever it's called.
I just think it didn't happen to me yet (and have high chances of not happening in years), because I sleep too deeply and I hardly wake up at the middle of night or anything like that.
Also, isn't this 'sleep paralysis' something that happens mostly to people who are used to have 'X' number of hours of sleep every day, or some kind of sleep "routine" ? I usually sleep don't sleep at the same hour every day and/or wake up at the same time, I think this makes that kind of crazy think harder to happen. I didn't research about what I said now, it's just some thinking, supposing.
Btw, interesting facts you guys mentioned, I think reading about it makes you atleast prepared for your first time, if it's ever going to happen.
Am I like.. the only one who sleeps fucking normally on facepunch?
Everybody is always talking about lucid dreaming and sleep paralysis but none of this has ever happened to me.
Though I always get that shit where it feels like the floor collapses under you and you wake up violently

Yeah, I never get that weird stuff. All though sometimes I'll wake up 3 hours later if I go to bed at 1:30, and wake up 12 hours later with I go to bed at 2:00.
That's a sleep cycle, I think it's got something to do with the melatonin cycles in your body

Yeah, that happens to me too.
Also about sleeping time, there was a day that I went to bed at 1:30am and then just woke up after like 18 hours of sleep. That wasn't all of that weird day, because I went to bed again at 23:00(pm), in the same day.
I spent like a whole day sleeping, heh.
If you do have it, please report back, I've seen quite a few people express their desire for sleep paralysis on forums and then come back and say how they are fucked up for life (an exaggeration obviously, although I now can't sleep on my back)
Jeez I thought I was the only person who had this problem.
I never sleep on my back anymore because everysingle time I have, I've had absolutely TERRIFYING lucid dreams asdgsdfsad
Once, when I was a little kid, I sleepwalked to a garbage can outside (opened the door and everything) and starting pissing on it like a real hobo. So much for paralysis.

Really? I ONLY sleep on my back and I never get any dreams at all...
I hope this can solve me peeing in bed every night in my sleep
Sometimes while I'm asleep I will feel a sharp pain in my left temple. I know exactly why; I whack my head off my bedside table and then roll back onto my pillow as if nothing happened. I can always tell that I've done it it's just I can't be arsed caring when I'm that tired.
It is such a bizarre feeling. My eyes were wide open when it happened and I was scared shitless as I tried to will my body to move but nothing would respond. My whole body felt...disconnected, for lack of a better word. Lasted almost 20 minutes.
While it's happening, can you tell that it's just sleep paralysis and be able to kind of make yourself less scared? I'm curious.
If the mind is awake during paralysis, why are there hallucinations?
Your mind because your mind is still dreaming but it's recieving visual and audio stimuli, so it essentially overlays dream/nightmare shit over the real world stimuli.
It's unpleasent to say the least.

When it's happening the last thing running through your head is "Nah mate, s'all good it'll be over in two minutes," but what is running through your head is "oh fuck man what is that shit oh god why is it coming over here."

I sleep normally (usually).
Sometimes I'm like 4/5ths of the way asleep and it will feel like I'm falling for some unknown reason, and I'll think I am falling and enter panic mode. Luckily I realize what the hell happened before I actually start yelling.
I've experienced sleep paralysis two times and both times were fucking horrifying.
i get sleep paralysis all the time.
luckily I've never gotten shadow people or anything and i can just wiggle my self out of it.
Lol, it took me 3 hours to definitely sleep this night because of all the shit I read here. I think I was afraid of experiencing sleep paralysis for the first time.
I'm glad it didn't happen, heh.

Don't sleep on your back and you'll be fine. You can't go through your whole life being afraid of something that you need to do.
Fuck no it isn't, got it once when I fucked up an attempt to lucid dream.
NOT FUN.
Think that's bad? Night terrors are that, but you aren't paralyzed. The dreams project themselves into the real world, you hallucinate like a motherfucker and end up hurting yourself.
This used to happen to me every night.
I've apparently done sleep walking, and sleep playing. (I apparently played the piano while I was asleep and it was some insane shit)
I apparently punched my sister in this face while I was sleeping when we had to share a bed at our grandparents house.
How funny, here it happened in reverse my sister punched me hard as hell in the forehead woke me up instantly.

My dad did that to my mom once. It was an awkward breakfast.
The "body about to fall" sensation has also happened to me it feels really weird and its quite hard to explain, noclip anyone?
One time I was sleeping naked with my butt in the air and no covers on me. My mom walked in accompanied by the plumber. Thank god I was laying face down.

Fuck, I aways sleep on my back. :v:
Anyway, I'm okay now, I just realised that I was afraid because my mind was full and fresh with the new content I aquired here reading all these stories. I'll probably be fine this night.
I never remember having sleep paralysis and I feel like if I do get it, it will end up being permanent.
