I know I suck at handguns. I get about a 5 inch spread at 4 meters away.
They also aren't fully automatic or easily concealed. You can't walk around town with a hunting rifle hidden on your person.
1. disassemble
2. put in duffel bag
3. go to rooftop
4. assemble
You could still do that with a hunting rifle or something that isn't designed to kill people though too.
It's still a gun though so what's the difference? Whether or not it's a AR-15 or a .22 hunting rifle doesn't seem to matter too much to me because they're both pretty damn good at killing people.
Why can you say that other countries are better than the US, but when I say that the US is the greatest country on Earth, people get all pissy?
Europeans only like European-like countries.
You could still do that with a hunting rifle or something that isn't designed to kill people though too.
Yeah I sure could but that's not the point.
I enjoy rapid firing an AR-15 because it has minimal kick and cheap ammo. Typically hunting rifle ammo is expensive because of its size and hunting rifles aren't even that fun for me to shoot. As far as handguns go, it's a whole different experience than shooting a rifle. The only thing that feels the same is the fact that you're shooting a gunpowder-fed projectile.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that despite how dumb you think it is (and I know you are against the banning of guns anyway) that you should respect people's hobbies to the extent where you don't instantly think they're dumb because they enjoy something different than you.
And yes, I'll admit my golf club argument was a little retarded. I'm keeping the rest though.

depends on experience lol
I'm an alright shot with a rifle, but the first time I used a 9mm I could barely hit shit.
You could still do that with a hunting rifle or something that isn't designed to kill people though too.
You fail to see the irony in your own post.
What is a hunting rifle designed to do?
It's a HUNTING rifle, hint hint.
It's generally made to kill things bigger than a human. That means a caliber like .308 or .30-06, both of which are more than capable of killing you with a shot to the leg.

The fact that so many people own things that were designed to kill people is scary to be frank. Let's face it. There's a whole lot of stupid people on this planet. Stupid people and killing tools just seems like an incredibly bad combination to me. I realize people don't go out and shoot up grocery stores on the weekend or anything like that, but all it takes is one bad snap decision and someone is dead.
And yeah, most of your reasoning for keeping guns around is valid now, and I'm not saying going out shooting is a bad hobby or anything, but I still find the idea of guns being in civilian hands a bit silly to begin with. Like I've said though, the banning would have had to have happened a long time ago for it to work. If it would have you wouldn't be shooting for recreation in the first place so you wouldn't be missing it :P

The only reason we have the right to bear arms is in case we need to overthrow the government.

I agree that it's a bit unsettling of how many stupid people have access to firearms, like you've said it's logistically impossible to ban guns at this point. Plus, from my experience in everywhere I've lived it seems as though gun crime rates would be too low to even have to bother doing anything about it, and I live in an area where basically everyone owns at least one firearm.

Yes, but unlike an assault rifle or a handgun it's not explicitly designed to kill people, and like I already said, you can't hide a hunting rifle in your pants and walk around town.

Yes because that is likely to happen in this day and age.

You fail to understand why we have guns in civilian hands. The 2nd amendment wasn't written for hunters, recreation, or even home protection. It was written to keep the government scared of the people.
Imagine, for a second, that the gun owners of Virginia and Maryland decided that enough was enough, and went rebel. That's a few million armed people bearing down on DC. It would be over in under a week. There is no possible way that even the entire non-nuclear military forces of the DC area could stop them. Additionally, our soldiers don't pledge their loyalty to the government; they pledge it to the country, and to defend it from all enemies; foreign and domestic.

What are you talking about? ALL guns are designed to kill people/animals. A hunting rifle is more powerful than an assault rifle.
So you want to ban handguns too?
Yes because that is likely to happen in this day and age.
I don't care what date it is, sheer numbers will always mean something.

Yeah, because most gun related deaths are because people are hiding on rooftops sniping people and not because of badly made snap decisions by people carrying concealed weapons.
Don't be ridiculous.
Criminals have ways of getting guns that do not apply to everyday citizens, limiting or pushing up prices of guns just makes it easier on the criminal's mind that the house they're robbing or the person they're mugging probably isn't armed.
Even then, the fact that Obama has a vendetta against guns is an outright fabrication by the Conservatives and should be ignored.
Yeah, because most gun related deaths are because people are hiding on rooftops sniping people and not because of badly made snap decisions by people carrying concealed weapons.

If they make snap decisions to just murder someone then they're probably a criminal to begin with. Did you know that CCW holders are some of the most law abiding citizens?

Just to emphasize JDK's point:
Pistol calibers < Assault calibers < Battle/Hunting calibers < High-Powered Sniper Rifle calibers
(with some exotic calibers scattered all over)

This, the founding fathers of america knew that at one point, the government was going to go down the shitter, all nations eventually do. But instead of having their citizens take it up the ass like china has forced it's citizens to do, they are armed and would instead rebel. It's also why states have individual rights, if the nation goes to hell, you still have a fairly stable local state government.

Sarah Palin shoots Wolves from helicopters.
No joke :v:
Obama was a good choice. :obama:

You can't honestly tell me that you think an assault rifle is comparable to a hunting rifle in it's intended purpose. It's in the name, an assault rifle.
Read my posts. I'm not saying we should ban them now. I'm saying we would have been much better off if they had been banned a long time ago.
And yes, I'd put money on the fact that handguns are easily more dangerous than other guns strictly because more people carry them and they're much more easily concealed.
The only reason we have the right to bear arms is in case we need to overthrow the government.
I don't understand this argument.
Maybe its specified in the constitution or something but I really don't see how this would work.
A corrupt government that needed overthrowing would presumably have the military on their side and a few redneck militias wouldn't stand a chance against them. You could say that the troops would refuse to fire on them and that’s fair enough but which is more likely-
a) Troops refuse to fire upon a crowd armed with a large amount of firearms
b) Troops refuse to fire upon a crowd with no weapons.

Quick question for you. Which do you think is more dangerous?
This?
