This is just CPUs right not GPUs?
This is just CPUs right not GPUs?
I would not be surprised if they drop out of the video card market also at the rate they are going.
I managed to fry a computer within 12 hours of buying it by installing a program on a laptop with arm.
And that is in no way cooling or general design fault, atom is why it fried, right.
AMD GPU's preform better then Nvidia GPU's and cost less. They need to focus on drivers more though.
And you know that it is just the gimped child they took in and it will never happen.
I've been using AMD processors since my first computer...

It would still run but the whole thing was ruined and I could not restore it because they were dumb and did not include recovery disks to even see if it was something else.

(6990 also uses alot less power and generates alot less heat yet preforms better in most cases).
Maybe some new competitor will come along... [sp]inb4 gaybows[/sp]
So you dont want 3d transistors? Ivy Bridge is going to be awesome.
I don't even care about the tech for this matter, I just prefer AMD and I support them as a company.
Maybe some new competitor will come along... [sp]inb4 gaybows[/sp]
Lots of them, This is a sad day.
IT doesn't say they are getting out of the CPU market just that the focus is no longer Intel vs AMD, they are going to be expanding other fronts not previously looked at. Until now AMD was solely CPU with the purchase of ATI they became GPU and now going to mobile, ram, (SSD's?), other. I think this article is taking one line, out of his speech, and blowing it in the wrong direction, the thread title is also incorrect
Fuck.
I don't even care about the tech for this matter, I just prefer AMD and I support them as a company.
Companies are not your childhood friend. They do not care about you, they care about your money. If they can they'll screw you over for profits. Considering anything other than cold hard performance statistics and price when buying a CPU is just foolish.
Nooo, I've only been getting AMD stuff because you really get good performance price wise. It's a shame, I hope some other company replaces AMD on the CPU market.

And I use to complain on others for not reading the title :v:
Aw fuck..
I never personally used any AMD parts but I can see Intel taking advantage of this which'll suck.
Ah, my bad. And I use to complain on others for not reading the title :v:
Can you please edit it. The Speech/press release he gave, in whole makes it clear of this but the articles are only focusing on one line of the speech
Please change the thread title? It implies the opposite.
Intel already overcharge for processors, what the hell?
Let's break Intel up into several smaller companies and force them to compete. Much like what happened to AT&T in the 70's.
Didn't AT&T just buy all those companies back up?
Man, I've had AMD chips in my PCs since like 1998. Sad day!
amd user here. they never gave me problems, unlike intel. rip sweet prince
None of my flatmates understand why this is so bad.
If this is true it's terrible news, without AMD to force competition Intel will mercilessly gouge people for shittier processors. Remember the price hikes when Bulldozer first got panned by critics?
Let's face it, the desktop "PC" as we know it is dying off whether you like it or not. Over the short term (Next 2-10 Years) this is bad for high-end consumers, Over the long term (10-30 Years) it doesn't really mean anything because you'll all be carrying around mobile devices anyway and another strong competitor in this market is going to drive innovation. (ARM + nVidia needs a competitor)

I meant that they gave up the PC platform for CPU's. Not that ATi and such will be discontinued. If I could I would have changed it.

I like being able to change parts myself, see what is wrong with my computer myself without voiding a warranty right away etc. Also, hope Intel doesn't bump up prices or slow down innovation.
