Canada: Harper Government Collapses; Election due early May

Are you from BC by any chance?
Anywho I'm voting NDP because the liberals suck and I would never vote for the conservatives in a million years.
To be honest my political views are pretty shallow.
All that interests me a lot is self defense laws and firearm laws.
But really, security of person is a very basic right and an important one I suppose it isn't that shallow just narrow.
And liberals and NDP and fuckcois sure aren't on my side on those issues.
In my ideal world Canada would have a 2nd amendment.
So your vote is a vote for civil liberties - and you're giving it to the party who, if they had their choice, would take civil liberties away from gay people and women?
This combined with your bigoted view of French people really illustrates the narrow-minded conservative well. Stop destroying my fucking country please.

Didn't say I sweepingly agreed with everything the CPC does or pushes.
But as a whole they fit my checklist more than the other parties do.
and I live in Ontario. Although I sort of wish I lived in BC or Alberta.

They fit your desire to own guns (which you can already do under the liberals, by the way)
What else?

(Lol at the extreme generalization of firearm laws)Certain bits I do agree with most of the time:
-Tax policies
-Civil liberties
-Immigration
-Spending and budget policies
I don't think of myself as some political savant but from what little I do know I feel politically I side myself with the CPC. More so in a sort of Libertarian view but theres no real majority party for that...
-Civil liberties
Don't they want to re-open gay marriage and abortion debate?

Tax policies? Well, Harper voted yes for HST in your province making you pay more taxes.
Civil liberties? I already explained that, conservatives are only supportive of civil liberties for straight, white, male, christians.
Immigration, I don't know. Our immigration policies haven't changed in years.
Spending and budget? They broke the law because of their reckless spending and lying about it. It's the reason we're having an election.
Basically the conservatives have failed you on everything you want out of a political party except lax gun control. So I ask again: why do you support them?

"Certain bits I do agree with most of the time"
Assuming those debates ever come around, I wouldn't support a conservative stance on it

We'll see what happens in May brah.
Aman I'm asking why you still support them even after it has become clear that they don't support you

I don't know man. I'm not some set in stone type of guy I just don't know where my political stances fit best.
If only Ron Paul was in Canada :frown:

Ron Paul is a terrible politician with horribly bigoted views running under the fake guise of libertarianism to push his own radical conservative agenda

Can't tell if joking.
And if your serious apparently I agree with that "radical conservative agenda"
Can't tell if joking.

I'm absolutely not joking. He's against gay marriage and abortion ("let the states decide" - yeah, guess what that means), and wants to repeal the civil rights act.
Ron Paul is secretly a tea partier basicially

He thinks all healthcare should be private and that private businesses should be once again allowed to discriminate based on race or gender. So, that sounds pretty bad.

Isn't his son, the governor of Kentucky, backed by the Tea Party?

why do you support people who aren't doing what you want them to
NDP =/= commies
and because we've been doing so great under harper?
yes. Coming out of the recent recession Canada was one of the most financially intact countries, let's just sack the leader that did that for us.
yes. Coming out of the recent recession Canada was one of the most financially intact countries, let's just sack the leader that did that for us.
We did well because of banking regulation that was already in place before the conservatives were in power

How was that harpers doing?
You don't know how a parliament works
They can't win, it is physically impossible for them to form the government
[editline]25th March 2011[/editline]
A minority government keeps the vitriol down because if you hold a radical ideology nobody will agree to work with you, you don't want this turning into american politics do you?
I do know how it works and how slim their chances are. I'm just being optimistic.
I do know how it works and how slim their chances are. I'm just being optimistic.
You apparently don't know how it works because their chances are zero (not slim), they aren't running candidates in enough constituencies.
No not at all.
Don't bother, anything left of Reagan to him is communist.
Don't bother, anything left of Reagan to him is communist.
'Tis a sad day when someone thinks Reagan was Centrist.
A few new poll numbers are up.
Leger Marketing:
34 Conservative
20 Liberal
17 NDP
8 Bloc
6 Green
http://www.ledevoir.com/documents/pdf/SondagepancanLM-Le%20Devoir.pdf
Angus Reid:
39 Conservative
25 Liberal
18 NDP
10 Bloc
6 Green

Poll numbers are pretty much where they were going into last election. It'll be interesting to see how they swing as the election goes on.
Also shows how untrustworthy the Ipsos polls have been. They've been touting the Conservatives having 40+ support since February.
I do ipsos polls fairly regularly since they give me a bit of cash for it, their political polls are filled with doublespeak and they jump all over the place. I can see why the answers would be inaccurate.
I remember one had a question about which brand of laundry detergent I buy thrown right in the middle of it.
We're so going to be fucked if Harper gets a Majority.
yeah let's let michael 'do what i want fuck the people' ignatieff run the country and let's all start supporting metered internet while were at it
That's why you vote for the ndp see
yeah let's let michael 'do what i want fuck the people' ignatieff run the country and let's all start supporting metered internet while were at it
Then vote NDP or Greens or something.
That's why you vote for the ndp see
I'm voting liberal solely because I know it will be a conservative minority but I want to minimize the minority as much as possible
It's not the ideal decision, but rather a tactical one
