I'm a strong believer in the right to defend oneself. I believe that there is a difference between gun ban and gun control, and that you can have the latter without much of the former. I believe in stricter gun licensing and licensing requirements, but making more firearms technically accessible, but only to certain people (I.E. ex-military/police for certain high-power or automatic firearms). I believe that Canada doesn't pay enough attention to its military's budget, but that we should not be involved in Afghanistan. I believe that global warming/climate change is a part of the earth's natural cycle, and that we have little impact on it, but that industry does need to watch out for pollution it spreads into the ecosystems nearby it. I believe that the government should offer a form of basic car insurance if they're going to make it mandatory, that everyone has the right to a good education (including subsidizing tuition costs more) and access to healthcare, but that if someone wants to pay more, they should be able to get better/faster healthcare NOT from the same public system, but in a separate private one. I believe that everyone should have the right to internet access and that UBB is a load of horse shit. I believe that the TSA in overly invasive and the old system worked fine. I believe women should have the right to choose (abortion), but should only be able to terminate early in the pregnancy. I believe religion has no place in the government but that people have the right to practice it if they wish. I believe that a marriage can be between two consenting adults, not just a man and woman, but no more than two adults in one relationship (basically I support gay marriage but not polygamous marriage). I believe there are some crimes people commit that are unforgivable and that some criminals cannot be rehabilitated, and for that reason I support the death penalty. I also believe that teens who commit capital offences should be charged as adults. I'm an odd mix of views that usually end up placing me somewhere in the centre of politics.
I can't see why anyone is against polygamy, there is nothing wrong with it. We function quite naturally like that, if the tax break is the issue, no worries, I don't think they particularly deserve a unique tax break, but you really, really can't legislate love imo.
I think polygamists should get the same legal rights as other married people, but it would need to be assured they're an actual relationship and not just an apartment block full of people trying to game the system.
According to that quiz I'm closest to the Green party.
I feel marriage is a special thing, it's supposed to be a pledge of commitment to a person, and I don't believe that the same commitment, the same thing that makes marriage something special, can really happen between more than two people. I'm not saying that people can't have more than one partner, just that I don't feel they should really marry more than one person, or that it should really be called marriage, it kind of takes away from what I feel marriage is supposed to be about. As well, there are a number of policies the Liberals have and have had that I cannot support, nor do I support their ban-all stance on guns or cutting military spending. I also hate that coalition they tried to form last time AFTER the election, I feel that was undemocratic. If you want to form a coalition, then RUN AS A COALITION, and then let Canadians choose, don't try and undermine the process afterwards because you didn't like the result. Also, AFAIK to fly to the States you need to pass a TSA or TSA-style check, and from what I've heard, you need to do it to fly from Pearson Int'l to Ottawa too. [editline]4th April 2011[/editline] I forgot two things: On Immigration, I'm all for letting people in as long as they meet government standards for immigrating here, but they should respect our country, our anthem, our flag, our legal system, and (to an extent) our armed forces. If they're going to move here and disrespect this country and everything it stands for, they can leave. I also believe the monarchy has no place in the Canadian political system, even as a figurehead anymore. I believe we should eliminate the monarchy completely from our politics, they're half a world away, why should they even have the illusion of a say in our politics?

That's not what marriage is. I'm not in support of the liberal gun ban either, but that's hardly worth supporting the conservatives. Yeah, I would love to see how it would have gone if they hadn't gotten that coalition. No gay marriage for sure, basically an american abortion stance, I can't see much good coming out of social conservatism...
How many times do you have to be told that they've given up on the gay marriage ban?
if the coalition never started, would they have kept that?
I'm fairly certain they dropped it long before the last election. And the coalition technically died shortly after the Governor General told them they couldn't form parliament. [editline]4th April 2011[/editline] As for "that's not what marriage is," it actually kind of is: "the legal or religious ceremony that formalizes the decision of two people to live as a married couple, including the accompanying social festivities: to officiate at a marriage. a. the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc. b. a similar institution involving partners of the same gender: gay marriage. "

Secondly, respecting the anthem, flag, and military shouldn't be a requirement to immigrate. In fact, our anthem mentions god so requiring that immigrants respect it is requiring that they respect god, is it not? Shouldn't be a requirement for a country that prides itself on being secular despite having no real legal separation of church and state.

"
Okay, got me on that, but I disagree with you on what marriage should be then. Pretty much just have to agree to disagree.
I believe that global warming/climate change is a part of the earth's natural cycle, and that we have little impact on it, but that industry does need to watch out for pollution it spreads into the ecosystems nearby it.
I think you need to do a little more research on global warming before saying this :colbert: About the death penalty, what's your point here? Some murderers can't do rehab, let's kill them instead. If your argument is "it's cheaper", that makes no sense. There's more to an execution than the price of the injection.
So because one part of the anthem mentions a deity you can't respect it and what it stands for? I don't care who they are, I hate people who stay seated or wear a hat during the national anthem of ANY country, whether it's theirs or not. It's not necessarily the contents of the anthem, but really what it stands for to the country, a defining song about it; a song that best describes what the country is and/or what it stands for, and I believe that no matter the country, no matter the anthem, and no matter the place it's being sung, you should show it some respect. And I believe the monarchy has lost relevancy in Canada. The last time the Governor General tried to oppose the Prime Minister they were ignored, proving they really have no power, so why waste money and time of the political system keeping them there? [editline]4th April 2011[/editline]
Okay, got me on that, but I disagree with you on what marriage should be then. Haha I moved canada two years ago and not once have I sung the anthem [editline]3rd April 2011[/editline] I don't even know the fucking words to it. [editline]3rd April 2011[/editline] I just go O, Canada mumble mumble etc.

Land of our forefathers, Thy brow is wreathed with a glorious garland of flowers. As is thy arm ready to wield the sword, So also is it ready to carry the cross. Thy history is an epic Of the most brilliant exploits. Thy valour steeped in faith Will protect our homes and our rights Will protect our homes and our rights I'm glad the whole thing about crusading didn't make it into the English one but it kind of goes to show the attitude of it That being said the lyrics of the French one are fucking cool

It's not like the Liberal platform is a hell of a lot different from the Conservative one. I'd describe them kind of like "Conservative Lite" more than anything. And yeah, the Conservatives hold most of the votes so the Liberals either have to step up their game or come to terms with the fact that they just gave Steven Harper a majority. Some people argue that minority governments suck because nothing gets done. I kind of like them because it means that the person in charge can't do anything completely balls-to-the-wall outrageous. It keeps them in check. I don't want to see what would happen if the Conservatives got a majority.
Pirate Party!
Totally voting for them.
I don't care who they are, I hate people who stay seated or wear a hat during the national anthem of ANY country
whenever we did god save the queen i'd replace save with swears
whenever we did god save the queen i'd replace save with swears
what a rebel
Canada's anthem needs • More dinosaurs • Less god • Laser weaponry, if possible • A shoutout to Tim Hortons Then I'll respect it
I went to the liberal rally in Halifax yesterday, was fun times. Too young to vote unfortunately. Thankfully the CPC's don't have a chance in this riding.
Please let the fucking NDP win.
Please let the fucking NDP win.
Get out. I can guarantee you the NDP will NEVER win even a minority government. Canada doesn't want socialism, even if Facepunch wants it.
Get out. I can guarantee you the NDP will NEVER win even a minority government. Canada doesn't want socialism, even if Facepunch wants it.
lol i trol u
Please let the fucking NDP win.
Although it'd be nice, it wont happen, they don't have anywhere near enough support.
Bllasae is yet another Facepunch conservative who doesn't know what socialism actually is and uses the word incorrectly at every chance
