The things people in the west consume are made in the west for the people in the west. If anything, people in third world countries should have a population drop because that's where population growth is unsustainable
Agreed. But we are on this planet with too many people. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/Growthbydevelopedvslessdeveloped.jpg But both party's are right. We do take more resources from the earth than the average African family. And we do need to fix that. However the biggest problem to sustainability is the recent population growth in non western country's. Which was made possible by western agricultural technology. If all these people start to consume on the same lvl westerners do. All of earths resources are going to be gone really fast. I think the world would be a nicer place to live in if we lost half our current population and go back to the population we had in the 1960. The good thing is, the population growth is supposed to max out at around 2050. At 9 Billion people and then decline again.
Not seeing the current cultural trend in Japan as negative actually worries me, it's so balantly wrong that people who apologise for it seem totally delusional.
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Japan's major cities densely overpopulated? If something like 70% of them didn't have children then they might still be ok assuming the other 30% have more than one and a half children on average Though this is coming out of my ass so don't take it like professional opinion
Why have young people in Japan stopped having sex - The Guardian This is an article from a few years ago about this. Found it pretty insightful, especially how it suggests that many people do want relationships, but not one that resembles the one that Japanese culture has idealised. There are unsurprisingly many people who don't want the traditional 'Husband who's nothing but work ethic meets wife who is nothing but caretaker for the family' but feel that theres something wrong with them for wanting anything else, because other kinds of relationships don't have representation. Obviously I'm not Japanese and can't vouch for any of this, so pinch of salt and all that.
