Americans can trust the FBI's new director to balance law enforcement against civil liberties, President Barack Obama said Monday.
The president’s comments about James Comey, the new director of the nation’s top law enforcement agency, came at the formal installation ceremony for Comey at FBI headquarters.
Obama lauded Comey, a former Justice Department official during the Bush administration, amid mounting scrutiny of the federal government's far-reaching law enforcement practices, specifically to counter terror threats.
"Jim has dedicated his life to defending our laws, making sure that all Americans can trust our justice system to protect their rights and their well-being," Obama said.
"I interviewed a number of extraordinary candidates for this job, all with sterling credentials," Obama added later in his remarks. "But made me confident that this was the right man for the job ... was talking to him and seeing his amazing family. I sensed that this is somebody who knows what's right and what's wrong."
obama has good judgement
So we can trust they will track down everything we do in our lives even personal and private?

I think you're confusing NSA and FBI
So interviewing someone and knowing he can do his job is just looking at their face?
James Comey is a great choice actually. Hes a good guy.

That's what they keep saying about every director since J. Edgar Hoover.

Didn't J. Edgar make that a law?
I don't trust Obama or much of what he says
That's like trusting a fat guy to keep an eye on your box of donuts
Or a horse to watch your red apples
If you look at his past, you'll see that he refused to sign the legality of NSA spying, and wrote a brief for the supreme court in favor of gay marriage

Perhaps Obama does have good judgement.
Trust one man and his spies to protect us? Hmm

FBI is not spies, they're not the NSA or CIA.
I'm not even American and I know that.

Nowadays, he appears to be in support of both instead of just one.

The fat guy is the best person. He won't be hungry.
I thought the FBI has an overall good tract record, with the DEA being often disliked from the law enforcement agencies.
Which are different than the intelligence ones.

Not like the CIA no but they do perform internal counterintelligence (meaning: they also act in defense against foreign powers). ;(

Eh, sorta. The FBI is responsible for spying on criminal groups, and handles all domestic counterintelligence.

We're always hungry. How else do you think we got fat?

Hoover was a pretty smart man, used the mafia to take down the KKK.
