i still dont understand why the people shot him 10 times after he was on his knees groaning in pain.
He was reloading his rifle when he was kneeling, brah. Watch his hands.
You shoot the kill, once deadly force is deployed there is usually no going back. You don't shoot him once and hope he puts down the gun, you continue to fire till he/she is on the ground and no longer a threat - that could mean dead or incapacitated (Or even if the person gives up and surrenders).
This jackass was going to do something far worse then shoot a police car and the two officers. He got caught because of a simple traffic violation but panicked and shot at those two officers. Which I believe one of them was actually injured. The use of force was justified, the gun unloaded an entire magazine and was attempting to reload/unjam his rifle to continue. He may have been on his knees but he was still a very big threat.
People need to really stop trying to debate if this is brutality or justified. It is pretty cut and dry stop trying to twist things. Not every use of force is brutality. I think certain people honestly live in some fantasy land because I don't get how this whole situation can be misconstrued.
If he wanted to die why didn't he just shoot himself?
Because obviously if it was a European cop or a Canadian cop they'd ask politely for him to lower his gun and then he'd do it and everyone would walk away holding hands singing a happy musical number as a flock of doves fly overhead and a rainbow soars across the sky.
This kind of stuff doesn't happen in Canada or Europe.
Our politicians pretty much banned all our guns.
If you want to get a shotgun you have to take a safety course and a test and then pass a bunch of background checks which take a while, they interview 2 references/people you know and stuff like that and it takes at least two months.
And that's just an unrestricted license for long guns.

Hey, brb, need to start doing my daily exercise at the Telescreen.
Seriously, shut up
The United States is not a fucking police state, there's no checkpoints asking for papers unless it's on a Saturday night to help get drunk drivers off the road. There's no fucking FEMA concentration camps for thoughtcriminals nor is there a goddamn Hour of Hate for terrorists and Goldstien. Political efficacy between the people and the government is pretty damn high in the United States compared to other countries. People go out and vote, form committees, organize protests and be able to recall their elected officials without having the Po-po come rappelling down through your bedroom window and take you off to the Ministry of Love.

in Vermont I don't even think you need a license.

My guess is that he didn't have the courage to do it.
It takes more mettle to go down cold and alone than in a blaze of glory.

Deadly force is deadly force, the suspect was still able to function despite being fired upon and being mortally wounded. He had a weapon in his hands and he still posed an immediate threat to the officers and to the passersby around them. The suspect was fucking pumped in adrenaline and having a few bullets the size of your thumbnail zip through your body, you can fucking bet that a crazed suspect like the man in the video would still be a threat. The man was still holding his rifle after he was shot, any cop would have the sense to not approach an armed man, even mortally wounded when the suspect can still be able to hold a deadly weapon.
I can't believe people are actually questioning the officer's response. Seriously here?
Guy had a semi-auto AK clone. They had pistols. He could do a lot more damage. He had more rounds in the car.
Just because he crouches down and "groans in pain" (all I heard was this knucklehead screaming to be shot) does not mean it's over and everyone is happy. They are not going to run out of their cover and go "SIR! SIR! I HEARD YOU GROANING IN PAIN ARE YOU OK? :( "
The rifle was still in hand and still pointed in their direction. There is no question in my mind this was a justified shoot. He engaged them. He continued to engage them. He still had the weapon in hand. The police are not going to dick off questioning if he is done shooting or not. The guy had what was coming to him.
So, here's an idea. Don't shoot at the police.
obviously they should've just tased him
He could have easily killed the cops. But he decides to crouch in the open when he ran out of rounds.

An unskilled psychopath is no match for professionals.

Not to mention it's a probable suicide by police, what with the screaming of "KILL ME, KILL ME" and all.
I can't believe someone on facepunch hasn't said, "Why didn't they just shoot him in the leg... DUH!"
I mean, the thread is still young...
This video is insane. How much it has to suck to be a police officer. People wonder why they are seem to go over the top sometimes, but this shows that any person could be this waiting to happen.

He was shot by that point.
He wasn't crouching to be killed, he was crouching in pain. You can see how he grips his stomach.
Cops pull a guy over for blowing a stop sign, his response is to lean out his door in full cover and unload his magazine into a cop car. He then gets out and follows them to try and kill them. While he is yelling kill me, he is shooting his gun still. He then attempts to reload, but the officer doesn't give him the chance.
He deserved every bullet hole in him, its a fantasy to think that this guy would've survived this encounter, he made his decision and forced the officers hands. It's unknown as to what he may have been plotting to use his weapons for, but if these cops didn't stop him, there would have been the possibility of another mass shooting in the news for us to argue gun control about, instead of this thread where the guy dies before he can do anything.
Our cops deserve more credit than they are given.
Finally a shootout video of good quality, it's not a positive thing but all the other video's are soundless with no muzzle flash, just looks like a guy pointing at a group of people freaking out on drugs or a new dance or sumething.
what's wrong with you
[editline]10th May 2013[/editline]
the fact that the officer in the car didnt get hit once is pretty incredible
Video makes me feel woefully inadequate with my 5-round piece of shit police issue .38 Taurus.
But I guess we don't have guys running around with guns here.
As Gilkerson drops to one knee, still pointing his gun at the officers, Savage asks Thomas, "Are you hit?" "Yes," Thomas said. "You cover, I'll call dispatch."
Commending these officers for reacting with such efficiency. It's easy to lose your shit and forget what to do.
It's a damn good fucking thing he sucked at aiming because that was an AMD-65 he was using, way more deadlier than regular AKs.

Bullets are bullets, It still uses the standard 7.62×39mm. You're statement has me dumbfounded, if my toaster could shoot 7.62×39mm rounds it would be just as deadly as the AMD65. Just because it is a different brand or make does not mean it has magical stats that make it more deadly.
He clearly didn't suck at aiming, you can see a good grouping in the windshield even after rapid fire. I think his intent was to die that day, he was going to more then likely engage in some type of shooting spree but that idea was cut short due to him getting pulled over for a traffic violation. Instead he decided to suicide by cop.

The AMD's barrel and muzzle was designed to reduce flash, gas waste and recoil.

How fucking stupid are you? He fired around 33 rounds at them, its not like they're gonna say "Hey dude, mind laying down your weapon so we can arrest you?", of course they shoot him to death when he contunie to fire after he was shot once. Fucking fool.

This kind of stuff doesn't happen in Canada or Europe.

Um yeah it does, not as frequently however
There are nutjobs all over the world, difference being that nutjobs with guns might be more prevalent in the US

As someone who lives in one of the more crime-heavy areas of the Lower Mainland, British Columbia, I have to say: you're dumb.
