The pollution is a secret plot by Tyrosh and Pentos for regional supremacy.

But this is the real world, it would be Pisa and Genoa doing the polluting. A for effort though.
Been there, the entire city smells like shit.

there not...? :(

It's also expensive as hell nowadays and has shoplifters running around town selling stolen merch until the police comes up.
Still though, the architecture is really amazing and beautiful.

Drowning there is the least of your problems. The water is so polluted with sewage that falling in is hazardous and can result in life threatening infections, or the contraction of any number of horrible diseases.
I remember reading about an actress in the 40s or 50s that went to Venice and fell in one of the canals. She got a horrible infection in both eyes and almost lost her vision before they got it under control, and the keyword is control. She had problems with the infection relapsing at times for the rest of her life.
If anyone wants to visit Venice, the key to having an enjoyable stay where the city doesn't smell like an open sewer is figuring out the tides. You need to go right after high tide has receded and most of the polluted water has been taken back out to sea. It will smell better but it will still be pretty bad, just not unbearable.

Trust me walking around Venice isn't as fun as it sounds
I went to Venice alot when I was young, my parents loved the city, yet, water never really grudged me, from the surface, it just looks black, so I tought it was like the color of the stone underwater or something.
Now that I think about it, there's so many boats around there's gotta be water pollution problems...
Anyway Venice is one of the most beautiful place I've ever visited, also, Piazza San Marco is the shit when you're young, all these birds feeding in your hands is just too much fun. Murano was cool too, great works of glass art.
